A warning has been issued about using Android USB-C chargers as apparently they can make iPhone 15 models overheat.

In an Android-specific USB-C cable, there is smaller gap between the single-row 9-pin and single-row 11-pin connectors, subsequently increasing the chances of overheating issues.

Even under their guide specified using Apple branded cable and charging adapters

It says this in their guide.

“You can also charge iPhone with “Made for iPhone” or other third-party cables and power adapters that are compliant with USB 2.0 or later and with applicable country regulations and international and regional safety standards.”

There's a lot of garbage cables out there. Android users have been dealing with this issue for years now. I suspect it's one of the reasons Apple was so hesitant to switch to USB-C.

But it's not really a problem. Just make sure you use USB-C cables from reputable companies, like Apple or Anker, and not no-brand junk.

By the way there's plenty of garbage lightning cables out there too. I've seen more than one cheap no-name lightning cable with charred contacts in the past decade.

so what if you have only used the apple supplied charger and it STILL is overheating - even when NOT charging. I have had it say it won't show maps when I am driving ( obviously NOT PLUGGED IN to anything ) and when running multiple apps it ALSO over heats. this is NOT ONLY A CHARGING ISSUE

Well I connected my Iphone 15 to my Ford Bronco USB-C port using an original Apple cable from my Ipad Mini(latest version) port and I noticed that the phone was very hot. Will this mean that the cable from my Ipad bought over a year ago is different from the one included with the Iphone15?

So I wonder, if this issue of different pins location is true, and my truck is using the standard pin location/separation, should we be worried?

I don't have a Spamdroid phone so can't comment about their chargers.

But I have tested all different chargers I have, including a Samsung USB-C generic charger, and there is no "heat issue" on my 15PM.

If someone spends $1000 for a new iPhone and then decides to use some garbage android charger… well I don’t think the problem is the iPhone here 🤦‍♂️🤣

I'm loving USB-C so far, was happy to get rid of lightning. It has been great only having to worry about one cable type for literally everything.

With that said, while the basics are great, USB-C as whole is a mess. A random USB-C cable is a serious wild card in terms of speed, power throughput, and functionality.

For example, while the USB-3 speeds on the pro models are great, you actually have to go out of your way to find a USB-C cable capable of USB-3 speeds.

they should have supplied the customers with a usb-c 3 speed. now everyone would have to go find one online and buy it off there.

If the iphone is getting hot due to the use of using 'other' usb-c charging cables then it proves that Apple and other companies are not adhering to the USB-C standard because there should be no problems at all.

Mine got super hot using the 6-foot cable from Apple. But this was when it was plugged in while restoring from an iCloud backup. It got so hot, it informed me it would not continue charging until the internal temperature cooled down. Never seen that happen before.

But it’s also kinda hot when I take it off the MagSafe charger 🤷🏻‍♂️

Well then they need to make a USB-A to USB-C cable for those of us who want to use CarPlay. Until then I’ll stick with what I can find.
I didn’t know there were Android USB-C cables. I bought an Anker A to C cable on Amazon for my car. Works great.

Yep same, I just grabbed a random one at a local store and it is fine. Before that, I actually used my PS5 controller’s charging cable just so I could use CarPlay before getting a new cable.

But I find the ones I got are too long, so I ordered a couple different short ones from Amazon, which should arrive today and tomorrow.

Oh jeez, more USB-C-chaos. «You're charging it wrong»....

The whole idea was to move to a universal charging system using any charger.
However the petty and greedy narcissists at apple have managed to once again
force us to use their own USB-C gear. Pathetic!

The only reason this is a bigger deal with USB-C is that everything now uses it and the amount of USB-C cables sold probably goes far beyond all other charging cables combined. If a customer's looking for a charging cable 9 times out of 10 it's going to be a USB-C cable. I made up that number, but now that iPhones start using USB-C too there just isn't anything else left. USB micro-B is mostly found on old stock at this point.

A big issue is retailers and their various marketplaces where anyone can sign up and use the marketplace's fast shipping options without much verification. Whether the product in question is allowed to even be imported let alone if it carries all the certifications that known brands will have... is up to the seller in question of course!

Then 2 customers ordering the same product might each receive a different (quality) product where one is just fine and the other could go up in flames. The retailers don't seem to check what's actually sold through their marketplaces and promise to block bad sellers but of course that's not high on their list of priorities as long as the marketplace makes them plenty $$$.

For cables and chargers I buy two brands, Startech and Anker. However these are priced x times higher than what you can get from the no-name china sellers with prime delivery. I do not fault anyone grabbing the $3.99 cable over the $15 one. Customers rightfully expect that whatever's sold locally adheres to their State's import and safety regulations.

It can't be up to the big retailers to police themselves as they have no incentive to. Their business is inherently quantity over quality. The sooner something breaks the better actually so that the customer returns. Not like there's much of a choice where to buy.

All USB-C phone charging cables up till now were designed to charge android phones because that’s the only type of phone that existed for USB-C. Yes I’m sure there were some cheap flip phones that used it, but those are extremely rare.

Also, you might get lucky and get one that works or maybe not. That’s a big problem with USB-C is the standard is all over the place. Lightning cables are specifically designed to charge iPhones because that’s what they do so Apple made the specification correct
