Congrats on getting the new mini. I hope it is everything you want it to be, with your day to day use. I have used mine every day since I got it on 3/28 (just over 20GB of data used thus far).

I have a couple of small Anker chargers I use when running long distance. They have Dione great keeping the tunes going 12+ hours.

I don't know how often I will use this new charger but, it will be good to have on hand when needed.

Yeah thanks, I had the mini 2 but the kids commandeered it so I have been using a 12.9 iPad Pro for the last couple of years. I can’t wait to get back into the mini. It was the perfect size and weight to take everywhere.

I like them but I have used several of their cables and they all seem to stop working after a year 1/2 for me. Its fine cause its cheaper than Apples prices but I'd rather get adapters themselves from apple even though its expensive.
Don't they come with a 1 year warranty?

Next, Apple should pull their own Lightning cables off the shelves and replace them with Anker’s. That’ll never happen, but it would be a very customer-friendly thing to do.

I wonder if you can charge it via the USB-C port or will it be through the AC plug only.

I wanted to buy the similar one that the plug, but it charged via microUSB which I didn't want.

Look closely at their chargers on amazon, lots of reviews state either chargers break after 2 months or break the devices plugged into their chargers.
Until they put their chargers through proper safety certification, they are just another Chinese brand.

Well, in my opinion Amazon reviews are a roll of the dice on any product.

It wouldn’t surprise me if the people who have their two month breaking chargers are doing something absolutely crazy like trying to charge underwater or something - it’s that stupid with Amazon customer reviews - if you dig and try to find the real truth about any product you run into bizarre use cases and a world of ridiculous stuff.

Totally.

I have a huge power bank thing and I attached a dirt cheap Chi (Qi) charger to it and added nano-tape that holds the iPhone in place. The thing is, yeah, you can only charge this dumb battery with micro USB and it takes more than 12 hours sometimes.

This Anker thing - why doesn’t it also have Qi charging? Why not allow it to charge by USB-C? Do it all.

Hell hath frozen over.

For some reason this is odd, yet at the same time completely makes sense. I’ve used Anker products for many years. They make great products, and their customer service is great too. But, I would’ve never expected them to be in Apple’s stores. I imagine, their recent usbc MFi certification has something to do with it.

They’ve stepped up their game.

Btw, congrats ... if anyone at Anker is reading this.

Another huge fan of Anker products. I can’t even count how many Anker chargers, cables, batteries, flashlights, USB adapters, etc. I have in my house. The quality is excellent and their support is top notch.

Also, the to commenter calling them just another Chinese brand, Anker was actually founded by former Google employees and formerly headquartered in the US. They moved their headquarters China to be closer to manufacturing for quality control, a better ability to rapidly iterate their products, etc.

I don’t see it in the specs, but if this thing can act as a USB-a hub like the hyper, it’s a game changer for the MacBook.

Why do companies design these wall plugs so they stick so far out of the wall? It’s annoying and ugly. Flatten them against the wall and put the usb sockets either facing up, down or even left or right please.
I believe the standout design is for heat dispersal.

It charges when you plug it into an ac outlet.

Do you just read about Anker products or do you use them? I've used Anker for many years -- since they were first on the scene. We probably have 10-15 (or more) products in our house between portable chargers, wireless chargers and other power products. Not only have they all worked flawlessly since we've owned them, we had one issue with a purchase on Amazon and we heard from them in less than 24 hours and they immediately shipped a replacement only to find out it was our error. Anker is a quality product and just as important, has quality service.

I've had mixed experiences with them. I too made Anker my primary brand for batteries and cables but I've had at least three cables and an NFC charger go bad. They'll typically replace things as they break but it starts to be a pain in the ass having to replace something as simple as a cable. I can't say there's a better brand, though.

He's asking if it will also charge via the USB C port. And the answer is likely yes, as it's part of the PD spec to charge bidirectionally.

You know, charging via Qi off of a battery loses more than 20% of the battery's power in transfer.

I contacted Anker about tech specs, and they apparently don't have a tech sheet for this thing yet. Kinda odd, but ok. The rep did confirm it's only PD when it's plugged in to an outlet. Unplugged/battery mode it's 15w. Guessing the other usb is 5w. @BasicGreatGuy can you confirm this with any documentation that came with yours?

There is limited useful documentation with the user's manual. I hope this helps.

Edited to add: As a point of reference, I connected the Anker charger to my iPad mini yesterday. The mini had a full charge when I connected. I used the iPad mini almost continuously with mixed usage (surfing the web and streaming video at the same time on my LTE model with VPN running). I got just over 8 hrs of usage before the charge died. Brightness was at default level and True Tone was turned on.

Thanks. That's basically what I was hoping to find on their website. No surprises, however I do like it when the specs aren't squirreled away from potential buyers. I like Anker products, although not all their stuff is UL listed, but they seem intent on making quality synonymous with their name. If I didn't already have a 10K mAh battery and PD charger I would definitely buy this.

Right, but what happens when you don't have A/C outlet, like I don't have one in my car for example, hence my question.

My biggest annoyance with this product is the regular PowerCore Fusion is like $25 on Amazon whereas this one with USB-C cost 4x as much.

Yes I misunderstood your question. Based on what we know, I'm not hopeful that it does.

Can this thing be used with a MacBook Pro? I realize it’s less powerful than the stock brick that comes with the MBP, but could this thing at least keep the battery from draining while using the laptop, and/or charge it slowly while the lid is shut?

Just remember to put it in the hold if you travel by airplane, or there are good chances you will lose it.
It's against FAA rules (and is dangerous) to check lithium-ion batteries. The 5000mAh battery in this Anker is small enough that it's allowed to be carried on.
