The article conspicuously doesn't mention the price.

I think I could justify it, if I'd use it a lot. But then, it probably breaks rather sooner than later...

But it counts so you don't have to!!!

Good call, counting is har... wait not really :-D

I do appreciate that is helps with workout logging, but I don't think I fit into the early adopter/target market for this one.

Physical therapy offices, personal trainers, pro or college sports teams, etc. might see a benefit in this next level of exercise tracking though.

If you're too lazy to count jumps....I doubt the health app is for you. How much of the earths natural resources are being wasted creating this junk? I thought this was the green generation? All that has happened in the last 16 years is the complete dismantling of all the waste reduction practices started in the 80's. Wasteful products are back, Styrofoam is back, cardboard usage for products is off the charts, and we are shipping things from amazon which creates way more cardboard waste.

Lets make less rubbish and explore the universe a bit more.

This is smart, cool idea :D

That could be interesting. What would smart socks do?

Would they have a built-in pedometer? Or maybe a built-in screen for displaying messages or watching TV?
They'll squeak when they're separated.

The negative comments here are surprising. This thing projects easy-to-read numbers onto a wall using LEDs embedded in the rope. That is absolutely amazing how they got the timing absolutely perfect for this to work. Incredible and creative!
Absolutely agree. But numbers are not projected to a wall, but glow in the air right in front of your eyes. I can see the future when it could display a whole tv picture and show you news, movies while you're jumping :D Fantastic idea.

A $90 jump rope?! Some people have way too much money.
People spend more on a soccer game or a music concert for 90 minutes of 'entertainment'. Some spend that much on a bottle of alcohol. Others spend 100K on a vehicle to get them from A - B. Guess all those people have too much money and from a certain perspective that opinion has some validity. Since it was interesting enough for you to read the article and post a comment, there are probably enough people that think such a gadget is worth it and that's what business is all about.

A thousand up votes for this one.

Or they just take fitness very seriously and consider it worth investing in their primary hobby. I wouldn't spend $90 on a jumprope, but I can see why someone else would. I'm sure there are plenty of people who would say you have way too much money because you own an iPhone.

I've definitely had crossfitters described as big investors into all things related to their workout and jump ropes would certainly be included.

Given that there are a number of fairly cool (or at least difficult) things you can do with a jump rope, it would be really interesting to me if this could actually analyze the path of rope, to help you figure out how to improve. Just double unders, a staple of xfit, isn't easy to pick up right away.

Just picked one up yesterday. This is so cool. I love it. Handles actually feel great in the hands. Rope is limber apart from the led strip. Perhaps 2.0 the rope will be a little thinner though.
