...and its always the laptops, tons of Mac Pros were free as were some iMacs but the laptops ALL in use but at least the others spent on average 20 mins on machines.....but not the ****.

Thought of actually going up to him and saying "Excuse me but you cant be chatting, some people actually want to buy this machine...p i s s off" BUT people say i'm rude already so im trying to stop that.

No never rude, just truthful. I would have said something, but I have been called a b**** before. I so earned it. HaHa Gosh, I love my job.

I think it's important that Apple stores have Internet access. Whatever it takes to get people into the stores and experiencing OS X, even if it's just finding out the time for their next train, is a good thing, and it's probably going to cause that individual to consider getting a Mac at some point in the future.

I don't think there should be chairs or anything... but then there haven't been chairs at either of the Apple stores I have visited. I'd be more than happy to ask someone using a system that I was interested in something along the lines of "excuse me, I'm interested in buying this computer, would you mind if I used it for a while?" but I'd absolutely expect the current user to shift their arse unless they had a good reason not to ;)

If you really want to get someone off the machine, pull the friggin plug on 'em. And be prepared for the confrontation that will likely ensue ;)

The nearest store to me has no chairs, except at the Genius Bar. And most laptops are at waist level.

If I were serious about a particular computer, and was prepared to buy THAT DAY, I'd simply express that notion to the nearest salesman and let him handle it. If he blows me off, or otherwise doesn't help gain access to the computer in question, then they obviously don't want/need my business and I'll go elsewhere - right after telling the store manager why I'm leaving.

I've done it before, with computers, cars, etc. They either resolve the situation or lose a sale, and I personally don't care which way it goes. Usually, there's some other place that sells what I want, and I can get it there.

YMMV of course.

I refuse to go into the Regents Street store as it is full of foreigners checking their email, you cannot get near a machine. Not that I resent tourists but the Apple store should do something about it. The place is a joke.

If you in to buy you can just ask a member of staff and they will pull them off, though it is pretty intimidating, maybe you should have to type in a password to get internet access (as a compromise) so that anyone looking to buy can still get web access.

At the london regent store there is always this old guy at the back of the store playing on one for the two Mac Pros there is, he stands there for hours eating these oat bars things people stand out side and give out for a trial. He hits it under his shirt eating it and plays on iphoto for hours looking at pictures that are on the computer usually pictures of fake holidays apple put on it..
For ages I was trying to get on it and nope! in the end he got ask to leave the store.

I used to say "I'm actually here to try these things out to buy" and I never had trouble in getting an Apple employee to kick off a user or getting them off the machine myself.

On a positive note it's good to here that the stores are busy ;)

Let's just hope that they occasionally sell stuff

They should run windows on the machines then when it crashes the newbs who just surf the net will just walk away and anyone who knows anything about macs would just boot into Mac os x :) But i see flaws.. all the newbs wont buy macs xD

Just pull the plug and marvel in the fact that the mag safe adapter really did save your life else the MBP would have fallen and broken your foot! :D

No chairs except genius bar and all the laptops and iPods are at waist level but the desktops are higher at the Tyson's Corner store. Plus last time I was there they had all glossy screens except for a few (maybe 2 or 3) matte. Of course they usually get the newest and greatest pretty fast.

I went to the Apple store to check out the red nano and then decided to compare glossy screens on MBPs with matte ones BUT that was not gonna happen. There was only ONE glossy MBP in the entire store and a mo-fo just sat his fat a s s chatting on it and surfing the web with no intention of buying anything basically just using it for free internet access....which is fine but dont hog the darn thing. He saw that i was waiting and completely ignored me...stupid ****.

I thought to myself "patience" so i walk around the store...even left and came back two hours later but guess who was still on the same computer. I really felt like b i t c h slapping the ****.

Anyhue i decided to get an Apple employee to get him off but the dude said "We dont have glossy MBPs in store, thats not glossy". WHAT! its right there. I just got fed up and went to selfridges to see if i'd have better luck but ran into someone i knew so i had to postpone.

I really dislike the Regents Street store now. They either don't have stuff or the staff are rude or just plain dumb. Sorry to say but thats been my constant experience.

Just thought i'd rant.

Instead of ranting, you should have overcome your British politeness and asked the guy to move his sorry ass. Actually, it would have been more polite to do that: He behaved like a prick, and you hated him. If you had asked him to move, he would have moved, and you wouldn't have hated him. Which would make him feel much better, right? So by preventing people from behaving badly and getting on your nerves, you just do them a favor.

Warning: The Following Message Is A Rant!

Actually, IMO, it's not just Apple stores, it's everywhere. I was in line at the convenience store recently. The guy in front of me was apparently quite stricken with the cashier. They spent so much time flirting, they couldn't comlete his transaction. After standing there for about two minutes waiting for them to wrap up their flirt fest, I reached past the guy and set the soda I was going to buy on the counter, and walked out the door. Two people in line behind me did the same.

And McDonalds. How can anyone stand in line for 5 minutes at McDonalds, get to the register, and spend another 5 minutes deciding what they want? It's not like the menu changed recently!

Don't disable the internets! What will it be like at the Apple Store with no interweb!? Think of the children!

I am so glad they havce net access. While on vacation i filled up my memory card with photos in about 5 days (out of 10) so i went to the apple store and uploaded them to my FTP server. Unfortunetly they blocked GUI access to ftp via finder, but i was able to FTP via the terminal, very nerdy!

This isnt really an apple store issue. Its a societal one. People nowadays are just so selfish and unaware of their space. Cellphones in restaurants, shoppers leaving their carts blocking the middle of the aisle while they pick which pork rinds to get, failure to use turn signals, blasting music at a stoplight, full volume conversations in movie theaters and my biggest peave, using speakerphone in public. Hogging demo systems is annoying, but its definitely one of the more avoidable annoyances out there today.

If you were in the store, couldn't you just ask somebody?

I bought mine online so i have to direct all queries online, stores can't help me The answer however is no, i have to return and reorder.

When I went to the smaller Apple Store in the shopping mall last September to purchase a 12" iBook, all iBooks (there were only 3 or 4 of them as this particular mall store was a mini Apple Store) were occupied with browing customers. So, I want to get this guy off the iBook on display counter. I waved at the Apple Store employee and said I'm interested in buying iBook and I want to see it up close and try it out for a few minutes to make sure I like it. That's all it took. The guy was swiped off from the iBook and I was able to play with it for a few minutes and purchased it shortly after that.

Just to inform you... today I've been at Regent Street applestore and that big ass **** is still over there...

Maybe he is dead... I think somebody should call in the store and warn them :( - not me, now I am back in Spain and that sucker doesn't deserve an international conference call :D

huh!

Now seriously... I was at regent st. applestore just the 2nd day after grand opening and I found the stuff so rude and disgusting (except some nice girls at tills)... you know, that kind of attitude that seems to be saying "hey mate, I am selling you an apple product so you should love me and be grateful...

hasta luego.

I feel bad now!
I was in Scotland and England last year and stopped in an Apple reseller's (can't remember where exactly I was for this) to check my email on an ibook!
In my defense, I was planning on buying an ibook once I got back to the states (and did), but there was no way I was going to pay for one in the UK with my weak American dollars. It would have cost almost twice as much!
