nothing like it. i live in aussie. it was actually a discount retailer. also i didnt want to step in as they were giving me a healthy discount on a graphics card.

this was in the dark ages when i couldn't afford a mac. if you ever go to aussie it was called Computer Discounts, a harvey norman subsidy now.

dont worry, i go to mac stores for as much as possible. or dick smith (next door) for single DVD-Rs

I'm sure the worst help you receive in an Apple Store is still better than the best help at a PC store. Those salespeople are the worst. They make used car salesmen look good.

Even though I've never been to an Apple Store (I know I know..), I'll agree. Those PC salesmen in places like The Wiz are demonic. In fact, The Wiz has to be the damn creepiest store ever. I'm not sure why.... *shivers*

i was once at a reseller. they had some imacs for sale etc. blah blah

basicallly this sales guy was telling this poor illiterate person that he needed to get an external modem to use with his imac because it didnt contain one built-in.

i would have steped in except that if the customer didnt read the spec sheet it is there own fault. it also wasnt an "apple" store of any sort. it just sold apples.
haha, that is terrible. no one does that at our store. ill tell you guys a story. i was at our local sears when they sold imacs, i dont think they still do but oh well. i saw this guy buying an imac and he asked the guy if it ran windows. he said windows doesnt come installed but you can install it yourself. so this guy at sears sent this guy out the door with a brand new imac and a nice copy of windows 98. i thought that was hilarious.

My personal favourite is "this iMac will run games better than any PC on the market." That's just wrong :(

I hear that. Even with all my bad experiences with Apple salespeople, PC salespeople are worse. At least Apple salespeople seem to tend to enjoy what they are doing. If find a lot of PC salespeople just don't want you in their store. (DDCC/CWorld for those in Australia)

In Australia, it seems many PC stores are shabby little rooms with a couple of PC's scattered about but then you go to a mac store and it's got way more quality...anyway I went to a fairly new Apple Centre in Sydney (not Apple Store) and there seemed to be too many staff for the customers at the time but they were helpful and eager to impress...they were good but I didn't really question their knowledge because I knew everything :)

I have been to dozens of PC stores and purchase for friends who are insisting on one and don't know much. In all of those visits, and all of the hundred or so times I was browsing and listening to the sales force, I have yet to see ONE knowledgable person. Not one. Zilch. They are comprised mostly of kids who are actually bothered by your presence, or so incredibly stupid that I laugh out loud. I'm not a know-it-all, and I NEVER go out of my way to embarrass someone, but on occasion I lost my temper, or even worse, interrupted an idiot trying to blind-side a newbie to the computer world. Unfortunately my Mac experience has been WORSE, as I suffered through Sears and CompUSA, where the Mac sales people actually try to stear you to PC's.
I'll know more tomorrow, as I'm visiting the Apple Store in Woodfield Mall.

the apple centres in aussie are a wierd issue. my local one (husrtville) has one guy with some knowledge. even then this 'tech' didn't know what SMB was or if it was in Mac OS X 10.1/jag.

The store in the city, i forget exactly where (its a nextbyte right?) has some guys with some knowledge but they still ru to the spec sheet when you ask something like "Does the iMac have an SDRAM slot or are they both SODIMM?" come on guys, you are supposed to be able to sell me RAM for this thing.

In the us you have Apple stores not just centres. lucky yanks
