I don't know what they are thinking here. This non-availability but teaching the public about the watch can back-fire them in a big way. It is a tease and loss of revenue for Apple. They are showing what a smart-watch can do but no sales to walk-in public?

Imagine if this was done with the iPhone? They are would have created a huge upset group of customer that would want a product not offered for sale and will go to a competitor like Android.

They are better off with the huge lines, the cattle rushes and the on-line community letting the free market work its way with Apple Watches selling for a few grand on eBay.

What would have been classier would be to wait and let the benefits speak for itself. If it's really a "must have" then allow friends and colleagues give their unbiased feedback by utilising its features and sharing their experience with others. Whether that's with social media or word of mouth. To me this shows significant uncertainty amongst Apple heads on whether this product will succeed on its benefits alone.

Apple are taking the populist fashion culture approach and flooding the market by handing out freebies to VIPs and touting how great this device is before it's even released.

Look I'm all for education and marketing but the best products also speak for themselves and do much of the marketing heavy lifting. This product is not even released so whatever feedback we hear will contain a level bias which is frankly hard to swallow.
The products have been and will speak for themselves. The marketing helps as well. Why rely on just one aspect or another when you intelligently can go after all of them.

They have had and have these classes for iPhone and iPad and around launch time many people still couldn't buy them in the store. Seems like those devices have done just fine.

if my watch does come on the 24th... I would love to sign up for a lesson just to show off that I got a watch :p

It would probably be like 1 on 1 private tutoring.. hope at least the girl specialist is cute

I spoke with apple support today and learned that at least a portion of the watches will be shipping out from Tennessee. I cant wait to get mine and as I am only 1 state away hopefully this means it will get here quick!

I don't think I'll need an apple watch basics course... I've been watching pretty much every video that has been released for the thing since last year...

Memphis is where the main FedEx hub is located.

so you're saying the apple watch UI is so confusing they have to run clinics to teach people how to use it?

Not really. What they are saying is that some people are daft as a brush, whitch can't be any further from the truth. It would be unfair if they didn't get any help on how to use the thing, don't you think?

WTF - are people really this mentally challenged - its a watch for god's sake. No wonder manuals are still included in simple devices - because of the brainless ones. I figured out the Apple watch in 5 minutes - no manual no help. People that need this should not have this device.

It's kind of sad how some people here can make such a convenient option for novice users and twist it into some thing negative. It's alright if you don't personally like or want one, that just means I'll get mine that much sooner!

A PayPass POS terminal.

Not the way stores in the US are implementing those. A whole lot of them are Verifone "multimedia" terminals that don't even show the contactless symbol when it's time to pay. I've been using Apple Pay for a while and even I get tripped up over whether a store actually supports it or not as a result.

That's always the case for Apple shipments so it's not really a stretch tho tell you that. Two of UPS's main hubs on Memphis and Louisville.

FedEx's is Memphis IIRC, so it's possible we'll get our Watches via them.

I can't believe Apple is now forcing me (by pointing a gun at my head) to attend Apple Watch Basics workshop! I don't have time for this! I'm so very, very angry! And having the Watch is mandatory?! I haven't even ordered one!

Will there be a viewing gallery for non Apple Watch owners to witness the Apple Watch owners at this workshop? Synchronised wrist-distraction-action en masse should provide an hours worth of amusement. Book me a place :)

Seriously? Do you think the Watch Edition is like some golden ticket into Apple? Maybe Tim Cook himself will fly out in person every time an Edition owner has a question.

It's not a golden ticket into Apple, whatever that means. But, if you have a lot of money, one of the main benefits is to not have to deal with the proles and unwashed masses.

Have you ever waited for a "genius" bar appt. The inconsiderate, unattractive, morons waiting there with their dumb questions... I wish Apple let me pay any amount of money to avoid that.

:apple:

Totally agree. Between the countless videos they published, now they need to personally explain to you how to work this thing?

Never mind they don't even trust the end user will be able to understand putting it on, thus the need for appointments to even try it on.

A very confusing product, most people on the street don't get it at all.

:apple:

Not everyone that will buy the watch will:
-have spent 200 hours on macrumors and other sites finding out how the thing works
-know about all the material on the web about this watch
-have the same technical proficiency as you
-mind to sit in a classroom getting it spoonfed

It should have been easy to draw this conclusion yourself. Not everyone is the same and Apple does this for free, so what is the issue?

wow most quote notificacations in one topic. An all time new record for me :D

Reading your initial post this is something that you probably shouldn't be too proud of.

Either:

A: the watch is over complicated and needs explaining to your typical user

Which is bad.

B: Apple think THEIR users are a bit of the slow/dumb side, which is why they buy Apple as Apple makes choices for them, and hence Apple users will need more help than other.

Which is bad.

Whatever you think, this does not SHOUT.....

"HEY, All our intelligent customers who choose Apple, see our new device we have spend years making easy to use."

The products have been and will speak for themselves. The marketing helps as well. Why rely on just one aspect or another when you intelligently can go after all of them.

Because you risk looking like a try hard which can turn people off and make you lose your "cool" factor. Fashion is very fickle and perception is everything. And I didn't say not to market. Marketing done correctly is very powerful but to sing the praises of this "revolutionary" product before it's even released comes off arrogant. They should be confident the product will be a success because they've carefully thought it through and addressed a need.

so you're saying the apple watch UI is so confusing they have to run clinics to teach people how to use it?

how much time went into this thing?

shouldn't it be intuitive so anyone can pick it up and use?

or am I just reading this wrong?

You'd be surprised. Lots of people are confused by simply backing up and syncing their phone to iTunes.

Besides the nipple, name one other user interface that is so intuitive that _everybody_ can use it? Ever stop to think that there are those out there that do not read every last scrap or information on a device and may enjoy some initial hand holding?

I had to do a lot of hand holding before I got to use the nipple interface.

IF they receive them on the day that is...

I reckon the stores who don't do the workshops on the 24th are those who won't get the Watch in by that date neither. It's safe bet :apple:

Personally, the statement "the watch is coming" sounds a lot more reliable than "it will be here on 24.4" since

I had to do a lot of hand holding before I got to use the nipple interface.

So true. It took me 3 long years (and I went through many versions) before I was finally given access to the interface. And then I was doing it wrong....
