I've used mine for several months now for weekly Zoom calls and nobody has said anything about my camera quality being bad or pixelated although in reality, I don't think most people care about your camera quality. It seems like it's the user who cares the most.

Despite my old Intel MBP's fans constantly running, I haven't had anybody once struggle to hear what i'm saying. These ASD microphones perform exceptionally well. Speakers are more than fine for meetings.

Most importantly, everything just works when I need it to for my meetings and I haven't run into any technical issues (knock on wood.) It's also nice not needing to fetch my external camera & microphone, plugging it in and out or leaving it in and having it take up ports on my machine.

Just finished reading all 110 pages 😅

I have this same thing on a new Studio Display:

@canyonblue737 Has it gone worse over the time?

Anyone else with this “problem”?

ok my update... when I posted this it was the caveat you could NOT hear either the electric buzz OR the fan noise even 12 inches away so from a normal seated position the display was silent. after my post I never really thought about it again and now nearly a year later after I saw your follow up I listened again to see if I could hear the noise. the fan noise is still audible with my ear against the display top but I can no longer hear the electrical buzz. The display has always looked and worked great, and is essentially silent from any reasonable distance, even 6 inches away I can't really hear ANYTHING. why the electrical buzz is gone I have no idea. bottom line... I have a launch studio display and nearly a year later I still love it.

Thank you so much.
I’ve noticed the noise is lower when I disconnect the external drives from it.

I notice the Standard Glass w/ tilt stand is $1350 at Amazon (US) right now-- how common is that? VESA might be my preference and that one isn't on sale.

I've preferred a single larger display for some time now (34" ultra wide currently); I'd love a 32" 6k but can't justify the price of the XDR (and wish the Dell that's coming didn't have that giant webcam and speaker forehead). With Studio Displays creeping down more towards $1300 I might be able to pull the trigger on a pair of those-- I'm guessing those will still be cheaper than even Dell's 32" 6k when it comes out.

Even a single Studio Display is a great option. I have LG UltraFine 5K - similar to Studio and now I also have XDR as a single display which I use every single day. The difference between them appeared not so huge, it's surely not the price difference. In relative units XDR gives, well, +60-80% value compared to Studio. 2,5k (including Apple interest) should be a fair price for it.

Yeah, I could probably make-do with a single Studio Display, I'm just hesitant to reduce the screen real estate I have at my disposal.

I would not be surprised if 2.5k (or thereabouts) is what Apple charges for the yet-to-be-seen 27" 5K XDR (miniLED display). I don't need the miniLED / HDR per se (gorgeous as they look). I would love it if Apple had a 27" & 32" Studio Display in addition to 27 + 32 XDR options; at least the 32" Studio would probably be within semi-reasonable price range. I can't see that happening, though-- at best the 32" XDR gets some kind of miniLED refresh; at worst it gets discontinued in favor of a 27" XDR I suppose.

I'll just have to wait and see-- Samsung and Dell will have their new 5k / 6k options in the next few months most likely. Be interesting to see how that affects the landscape.

Broke down and got a VESA mounted one yesterday, pretty happy with it. Also have an LG 5K ultrafine to compare it to, and they're very close, but the Studio Displays has definitely better brightness and contrast, and the speakers are miles better. Overall, bit on the high side with price but it bridges the gap nicely for those that want a fully integrated monitor without having to shell $6,000 for the XDR.

Apologies for the trivial question but are we supposed to shutdown the connected/host mac before unplugging the thunderbolt cable? I have the ASD connected to an intel MBP.

Thank you.

No, it's can be safely unplugged at any time. These good old days of connectors with screws passed long time ago.
If you're still afraid to burn something, just put the display to sleep with shortcut Control–Shift–Power button* or Control–Shift–Media Eject

Just updated my Studio Display to 16.4. Not without issues though.

It appeared to be stuck on a black screen (waited 10 minutes) after the update so I unplugged the cable and got the restore screen. Had to power cycle the display and started the restore/update process again which finally got my display working again.

I’ve got the same. Just made a post about it. How did you restore the update process again?

It should auto start the update/restore when plugged in directly to a Mac. If it doesn’t, unplug everything and restart the Mac. Reconnect after

I don’t use docks/adapters so I have it plugged in direct to my MacBook.

Thanks buddy. Next time I’ll make sure I have all additional peripherals and cables disconnected before doing the update.

What does the update do?
It fixes some bugs, and adds new ones!

Since my update, the Stage Manager doesn't work anymore!!! WTF Apple!?

EDIT: Ok, it's solved. But it wasn't very obvious. Stage Manager is now back...

I take it there's still no way to assign a system-wide name to monitors in the case where you have more than one of these?

No. I put my machine to sleep, but just out of habit and not really something that needs to be done. But I don't shut it down.
Do make sure to safely unmount any connected drives that might be disconnected by pulling the Thunderbolt cable, though.

I can confirm, that for me it does not.

I just updated my ASD (crossing fingers) using my Intel Mac Mini 2018. Put the Mac to sleep after the update and it still wakes up in the low res/fuzzy state.

Looks like I'll have to continue with my work around of never letting the Mac sleep.

Hopefully it'll fix the audio break up issues when using Teams in Windows. Can't say I'm holding my breath though. It's a really shame as apart from these two issues, I love my ASD.
