Is your computer with AMD processor/chipset? In previous cases, it has never worked with ASD - but it is good news if AMD can also work.

I have a Mac mini which I use to start up the ASD in the morning when I start remote working. This sets the optimal brightness. Then I unplug the TB cable and plug it to my (Windows) work laptop, and the brightness stays.

Occasionally I plug the Mac mini back in during lunch to browse, and then plug the work laptop back when I'm done. Not the most convenient, but it works.

For me mic/webcam/speakers work with MS teams, but the mic may sometimes completely stop working during the call. Before you plan to go to an important meeting, I recommend that you first test how teams works in longer less-important meetings. The frequently reported mic dropout problem may still persist.

I've nowadays used an external headset for important meetings, since I do not want to risk losing mic when I'm doing a presentation.

@saberfi Yes it's an AMD chipset, Ryzen 5 Pro 4650U

I've already have meeting with MS Teams for over an hour without problems.

In addition, I've an externally BT headset too.
I've already tested switching between ASD mic and speakers and my BT headset during meetings, it works perfectly.

Hi guys,
I successfully installed drivers through brigadier.

It works perfectly, allowing me to adjust the brightness.

Thanks to kreasu_ who gave me the model of my "old" iMac late 2020.

I used these drivers to control my ASD's brightness.

@HappyIntro you should give a try, buy the same cable as me, then, it's not difficult at all with brigadier !!

Hi guys, I am pretty new here. Recently purchased a studio display with firmware 17. Currently use it for both my mbp and PC. Don't know if anyone else is experiencing the same issue as I am having now:

First the studio display works perfectly with my mbp and ipad without an issue. However it truly causes me a headache when trying to connect with PC. I purchased this cable based on some feedback I saw in this forum and reddit and the display works as a charm. After installing the correct bootcamp following justins tutorial here, I can get all the speaker, mic, and camera working, confirmed. And I am able to control the brightness through the bootcamp app. Though the device manager still recognize it as a "Generic PnP Monitor".

However, somehow I cannot get the display to turn on when I start the PC every time if I do not unplug/replug either the USB or the thunderbolt side on the cable. It won't automatically turn on when the PC turns on, and it will never get into the BIOS img even I unplug and replug fast enough. The USB side of the cable is a USB2 with separate power to the cable itself. First I thought maybe it's the IO issue where USB does not have power when in sleep or shut down, but I can wake the PC using mouse or keyboard which means there should be power. Also the ERF in BIOS is in off stage (USB power definitely > 1W).

I am currently out of ideas and right now I am simply using a spare trash HDMI monitor to work on any BIOS stuff. It would be greatly appreciate if anyone can enlighten me.

System Win 10 OS build 19045.4651
Studio Display Firmware 17
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 3800XT
Motherboard: Gigabyte X570 AORUS ELITE WIFI

Hi. The Studio Display works with the ROG Ally X. The issue I'm running into is when running the game, the audio is randomly full of static. tried to use the brigader method, but in the folder it creates, it is empty. Is there any other tricks with this method?

Thanks!

Hello.

I have ASD with the latest firmware updates, it works great with my macbook.

However when I try to connect it to my gaming PC from 2017 (i7 7700k 4.2ghz, MSI Geforce GTX 1060 6gb, MSI Z270 Gaming M3 LGA1151) running Windows 10 pro with the latest system updates it doesnt work.

I use this cable and I can see the monitor display everything fine in BIOS and booting menu, it even shows the spinning windows thingie when windows loads.
But sadly when the loading ends and I should see the signin screen the ASD displays nothing aside from flickering black and blacker screen.

My guess is that the cable is OK and its about sortware, am I right?
Or parhaps my GPU/CPU/Motherboard is too old?

I have installed the Boot Camp following this guide but it doesnt detect the ASD, however Windows knows there is a monitor plugged (I can see two monitors in the screen settings when I have second working monitor plugged, I can also see two monitors in the device manager)

Please help.
Thank you in advance 🙏

The problem with that cable is, there’s no USB signal coming from the computer. The ASD is expecting all kinds of signals for stuff like audio and the camera, but also minor things like power and knowing when the computer is on.

I had a cable like yours, it worked great right up until the computer went to sleep, then I’d have to reboot to get a signal again.

Try this one, I’d bet hard that it’ll work much better: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BNX7MS6N?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details&tag=mrforums-20

Also make sure you have the boot camp drivers installed!

Thank you very much, I've just ordered the one you suggested.

I will post the results when I get it :) 🙏 🤞

I am needing a new PC laptop for work and can basically hand-pick what I want (they prefer Dell fwiw). Are there any PC laptops that are surefire able to work with the ASD, preferably via a KVM switch so I can use my Mac‘s mouse/keyboard?

If no specific PC, any feature in particular that I should look for to be onboard for usability?

@sppunk I can't speak to specifics, but generally speaking, the most important thing is that there's a DisplayPort output. HDMI will give you a lot of grief.

DisplayPort is usually built-in to any laptop with a Thunderbolt connector. That does include the Dell XPS 15, FWIW.

Created an account for people like me who ran into issues.

My setup used to work with brigadier/bootcamp, did not after my fresh windows install .

First, make sure you have an USB type C to USB and DP adapter if you are using a desktop GPU
You should have the audio and camera working out of the box with your display

brightness for windows :
This should work right away for everyone.
https://github.com/xanderfrangos/twinkle-tray/releases

As far as I know this is the only that works for everyone on windows

_________________________________________________________________________________________

I also use Ubuntu, so here's how i got stuff working for it

brightness for linux :
This works, has no GUI but if you're on linux it shouldn't be an issue ;)
https://github.com/juliuszint/asdbctl

Display issues for linux (ubuntu) :
I learned the hard way that the studio display simply goes black when you give it an incompatible resolution.
For some reason, mine was defaulted by xrandr at some weird 3k resolution after installing nvidia drivers, which isn't supported by the display.

There most likely is a better way to do this all... but here was my fix:

Hook up an HDMI monitor
type xrandr in the console
you can see there the invalid resolution given to the display, in my case, it was DP-0, so I had to do
xrandr --output DP-0 --mode 5120x2880
BAM, it works... exept when you unplug the HDMI display, for some reasons it goes back to the unsupported res
type xrandr to get your display list again, but do that when your hdmi monitor is unplugged.
when you plug back the monitor, it should give you the new output it defaults to. Mine was DP-2
xrandr --output DP-2 --mode 5120x2880
Put this in your console, unplug the hdmi monitor, then send the command

Bam, you got a fully working studio display on ubuntu without the help of another monitor.
Now all you need is to copy your monitors XML to the gnome monitors so you can see something before you log in
sudo cp -i .config/monitors.xml /var/lib/gdm3/.config/monitors.xml

Last night I was able to connect the original thunderbolt cable to my B650i Aorus Ultra (with 7700x Radeon iGPU) USB-C port. Display, audio, and camera all worked fine.

This morning when I turned on my computer, the screen won't turn on. Audio and camera works, but no matter what I tried, the display doesn't connect.

I had to revert back to the WJESOG USB C to DP + USB A (direct to my RTX A4000 GPU), and while all display, audio and camera works, there are times when I wake from sleep and there are rectangles of static / artifacting. ChatGPT says this cable is not certified for DP 1.4 or DSC (I've heard people using this no issues)? So I tried CRU to force 5k 60hz, still has random static..

Keep in mind, I have a Dell XPS laptop with I9, and everytime I plug that into the ASD with the original cable, it is flawless.

I have done the following: downloading bootcamp, update BIOS to f35b to force iGPU, UMA mode, reinstall NVIDIA driver, remove all AMD driver (as I heard windows was more stable)..

I'm a bit stumped.. is there anyway to get a troubleless ASD to PC connection?
