Lets be honest, If Apple were to do something about this "situation" then its consumers would be mad. Cant make everyone happy. And how would Apple really know if you are the driver or the passenger??

Yes, we all think that people should be able to make a responsible decision to stare at the road and not the phone while driving. And yet so many do not seem to make the right choices. The problem is that technology advances faster than Humans are able to adapt to them. Over time we catch up, but then something new pops up. So how do we solve this, but having a driving mode? Which we can turn off, making it useless? Or if you can turn it off then how does this only affect the driver and not the passengers which should be free to play with their phones so they do not have to engage with anyone else in the car?

This lawsuit seems off at this time because there are still too many questions. However, there is a real issue of how to use technology responsibly. When we give young kids phones and they grow up with and through it (with no parental supervision or instructions), we can clearly see what happens when they are old enough to drive.

I hope they have to pay apples legal fees for these bs lawsuits. They are piggybacking on the bs facetime lawsuit.

All phone makers should stop selling phones because they could be used incorrectly. where does it end?

I'm going to sue billboard manufacturers, as well as any company that puts an advertisement on them, and bumper sticker makers, for causing me to have to read all of them and taking my focus away from the road. I'll be rich by this time next year.

One thing to keep in mind regarding Apple's patent filing... It may not have been developed because it may have turned out to be a technological dead end. Having a patent does not make it a viable product or function. There are a lot of patents out there for things that don't work or never would work.

Wow, americans need to be babied like this? Just put the damn phone down and use it when you're at your destination. Not hard.

That's the pathetic thing about it. People are careless and nonchalant when it comes to others safety. All they care about on the road is themselves and negligence Turns into recklessness.

A really pointless lawsuit. As others have pointed out, there are far too many issues involve. How does it tell that YOU are the one driving AND you are the one using your phone at the time. Problems with distractions started the day a radio was put in a car. Or a cupholder. Or a mobile phone. Or a cigarette lighter? It's easy to get distracted by anything in a vehicle.

The cutoff switch based on speed is definitely the worst concept of them all. What about those that ride trains, are passengers in a car, or a in a motorcycle sidecar.

The true solution to this problem is development of autonomous cars, or ban cars altogether. You need to take humans out of the equation.

You act like Americans will go through with such a plan. I'm pretty sure texting and driving is a universal problem that's not related to "America". Here in America, you have the ability to sue people (for better or for worse), but at least we have the freedom to be able to stand up against things we believe in.

**** this bitch! I do not need some alt-left know-it-all telling me how to live and what to do, **** her sideways. Also, those idiots do not realize how impossible it is to do such a thing. How will iOS know if it is a driver or a passenger?

How about we focus on educating personal responsibility first, something that is lacking in the millennials.
Well, if you are a responsible driver than a driving mode lockout would have no effect on you. If, however, you are upset because you will no longer be able to text and livestream and whatnot while driving, then you need to work on that personal responsibility you are talking about.

I see all these posts discussing people need to take personal responsibility and nanny state. I agree that people should take responsibility and we don't want a nanny state.

However, every day when I'm driving, I see at least 100 people in their cars driving and their phone in their hands.

Perhaps the police should be more proactive since I can see the phone use in the car, and I'm sure they can as well. However, since the police don't seem to want to bother with it, a technological fix would be great. They just have to figure out how to limit it to driver only.

What about a class action for those people who were fired because they were on their phones while working? Apple should be held responsible!

Ceja asserts that Apple's "enormous market share" means that it is the "largest contributor" to texting and driving.

"If texting and driving is a vessel of trouble, Apple is the captain of the ship," the complaint alleges.

Wait. Then why does the MR forum choir keep singing praise about Android's market share and how it is multitudes larger than Apple's marketshare?

What are the chances this would get past the preliminary stages of a case? Sounds silly.
