Folks, it’s really not that complex. Apple is the world’s largest tiny startup. They were so busy working on taking things to a whole new level with OS 27, featuring the game-changing SiriAI, that they simply didn’t have the resources to address this. Believe you me, if Apple could have they would have, because they believe privacy is a human right. Fortunately, Apple has discovered the secret. Stay tuned.

But seriously, what do we expect when PR is directing the ship?
What does this really mean. That’s apples slogan “privacy is a right” is not true because of a bug.

Would a company that truly believes privacy is a right leave a bug that all Hide My Email addresses are vulnerable to and is exploitable within 5 minutes unfixed for more than a year after its disclosure? Would Proton do that?

Oh bless, you think Proton is secure?

Very possibly as apple has a huge footprint and cannot get to/fix everything at once. So yeah imo it d pens not take away from apples slogan.
Would Proton do that?
You comparing proton with apple?

Very happy to see this lawsuit and hope to join the class action. I wonder though if the plaintiff actually knows what the vulnerability is or how it works? Reading the document doesn't seem like it.

Apple just send me Apple Cash instead of a paper check:
You got your money and they didn't have to spend postage to get it to you. You can move it to your linked bank account if you want and it'll still be faster than waiting for stamped correspondence that kills trees and wastes fuel.

Apple getting sued for a bug in the software.🙄 Not just any bug, but one that only occurs after a very specific string events which has yet to happen in the wild. A bug that has not affected anyone.

Lawyers should pick a more winnable lawsuit. Sue Apple for Liquid Glass.🙃 Millions have been harmed by the Liquid Glass bug.😁

They are not currently blocking the subdomain "privaterelay.appleid.com," so why would they suddenly start when Apple changes the subdomain?

Because 100% of addresses on the new domain will be hide my email, whereas on the current domain if you did this you would be taking a huge amount of non-hide my email addresses with it.

iCloud has been disappointing me for a while now, lost jobs applications for its flaws~ doesn’t work great on windows either
I'm a DJ and sometimes I have people who need to send me a song for a gig or performance, and there is at least one person I know who simply CAN NOT email me her music to my iCloud email. I just never receive it. I don't know if iCloud thinks it's protecting me from something or what but there is nothing I can do to make that email come to my account, not even my spam folder. I had to get a separate Gmail account just for this purpose.

Makes sense to me. This very second, iCloud+ subscribers are creating new Hide My Email addresses thinking their real email address is hidden when it’s not. And Apple has known it’s not for over a year now.
Their real email address IS hidden, except for one very particular, very unlikely case that has never happened in the wild before.

Bugs happen in software. Some bugs are very hard to squash.

100 this. f-ing lawyers. everybody in u.s. is on the take. it's gross. go dig a ditch.

Presumably a statute exists in California to support this, so I might not put the entire blame on the lawyers. In the US, wide spread tort reform from the 90s has already taken much of your redress, and arbitration has taken the lions share of the remainder. Special consumer protect legislation is nearly all you have.

Undoubtedly it is painful to be on the receiving end of a lawsuit, however I would propose to you that it is far worse to have been wronged.

As for the lawyers, most are highly ethical. In any case you do not need to worry, if it is meritless Apple will dismiss it for a few thousand dollars, if it is frivolous Apple will be repaid.

Never happened in the wild that we know of. All HME email addresses are apparently vulnerable and the exploit can be carried out within 5 minutes.

I'd think it's very possible that someone has figured it out and didn't announce that they're taking advantage of it.

Incorrect. They could block the subdomain only. They aren’t currently and there is no evidence they will start simply because Apple changes the subdomain.

Imagine people trying to sue a lock manufacturer because someone someone figured out how to pick/bypass the lock.

What a joke of a lawsuit that will go nowhere. The feature works as advertised, it never claims your real email identity is completely protected.

The suit regarding apple's heavy, misleading advertising of advanced siri around the sale of their products such as the iphone 16 in particular had merit, this has absolutely none.

If it hasn't been fixed, then yeah, that's a failure of advertising. This probably won't go to court, it'll settle with some payment and Apple fixing the issue. Looking forward to my $4 payment in three years.
