I need my iPhone and the logged in apps for work.
This is unacceptable.

Reading I will loose all my health data (potentially) from after the update + I have to sign in to all apps which I use daily (Bank account access, public transport tickets, etc.)... Who tells me I don't run into problems there?

I stopped using Windows for this kind of "fixes".

"Pro" experience... Please skip that name Apple.

This is quite appalling, and part of me is starting to despair. As many pointed out already on the big discussion on Apple's own forums, many of us already tried this procedure and didn't get to anything.
Or at least, we tried a variation thereof: I personally backed up to my Mac and did a complete restore, whereas this suggests backing up to iCloud. Whether that's because iCloud is generally more accessible, or because it may back up fewer things and provide a "cleaner" restore..

However, I wonder if following this procedure to the letter, especially AFTER upgrading to 14.0.1 and 7.1, may work. Has anyone tried it?
I hate wasting time doing pointless things, but I'm stuck working all day anyway so it will make little difference if my phone is available or not. Setting up Apple Pay and my banking apps again is the part I'm the least looking forward to, to be honest.

I'm just concerned that, should this not work, Apple's only solution will be "restore as a new phone and watch".
It wouldn't be too bad for the watch as it's just watchfaces to recreate and little more (in fact I'm tempted to give it a go first), but restoring the phone from scratch would be a nightmare.

The amount of hostility here is high. Going outside and getting some fresh air can help ease stress. Maybe it’s easy to say because I never run into the issues I see here however.

If you don't have these issues, you have no "skin in the game". So no reason to judge people who have.

Me: I don't have hot water
Apple: Rebuild your house and it is fixed

To be fair, computers and houses are pretty much entirely different things.

I’m also having this issues my Series 6 (14.0.1). Not syncing all my workouts with the fitness app on my iPhone (Though calories and exercise time is transferring over). Very frustrating. Apples proposed solution is time intensive, and I’m terrified of losing my long streak I’ve worked hard on by doing a factory reset on both devices. Am I SOL? Im wondering if I should just wait for an official fix Instead of risking data loss.

YGBKM -- Apple's fix for a problem they create is a whole bunch of work on my part.

Only from an arrogant overvalued company.
While something like this can be somewhat time consuming and can take a bit of effort, and is generally something to be avoided when possible, it isn't all that unusual when dealing with computer issues (and realistically speaking that's what smartphones and smartwatches are). Again, that isn't to say that it's something good or anything like that, but that it's not all that unusual and something that often enough resolves various issues.

This is very true, but the problem here is that many of us have already done this on our own, and ended up just wasting time and having to reconfigure Apple Pay and everything else.

My personal concern is that this IS Apple's official fix. :(

Well, if it doesn't resolve the issues then it's certainly not a great situation to be in. It's still not an usual troubleshooting step (one of the last ones basically), but certainly isn't good when it doesn't yield anything. I didn't explicitly mention it in an earlier reply, but Apple should certainly continue investigating and hopefully coming up with some sort of fixes to the underlying issues.

The last version of WatchOS 6 ruined battery for me, then WatchOS 7 fixed it. Hearing this makes me realize my fix will only be temporary and there is a whole other world of Apple Watch they have no idea how it fully operates. It’s easy to forget smart watches are “new” technology and need years of refinement.

I’d hardly say 5 years and over 6 iterations is new technology. They seem pretty refined to me, much like the iPhone and the iPad.

I’m on a S4 that I upgraded to 7 and a X I upgraded to 14 and I have 0 issues. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ there’s probably things I don’t notice
Oh, if you have the battery drain issue, you will notice. It is like 14-31% per hour. And your phone will be hot.

What is this ********* i am sorry? This whole "just backup and restore" solution is really not convenient anymore when you have phones that have 500gb storage...

It is a damn hassle and a complete waste of a lot of time.

Why is apple even recommending this? Why cant an update fix this? Are they for real?

I've just followed the instructions to backup, erase and restore everything, and now I'm missing all my activity data since 19th September – presumably that's when I updated to watchOS 7?

I build software for a living. There are better fixes. Apple should at least let users know if they work on one instead of letting us in the blind weather this is the only solution we will get or not.

Question: Did you loose any medals, for example for your "perfect month" of September?

WatchOS7 is the first upgrade since the first version that hit me with all the issues: battery drain and the missing GPS data. Additionally iOS14.0.1 shows me wrong caller on the iPhone - usually it is the previous caller from Skype or Messenger. Feels like iOS7 update :p

Same here.

Update: They eventually re-appeared but all old workouts have no maps anymore, plus even old HR readings seem to have gaps in em too.

Yes, I lost my medals. It's also thrown my averages out of whack, which means my October challenge is now to complete my move ring 'more than 23 times to beat my average' – last month I actually got 29/30.

The Activity app on my iPhone has been stuck on 'Restoring Activity data from iCloud' for over an hour now even after a couple of restarts, but I'm not hopeful it's going to restore the missing data.

Edit: It appears I'm also missing all of my workouts. The Health app also says 'Downloading Health Data…' so hopefully it's a matter of time before these all come back.

Update: My old workouts have reappeared, guess I'm going to have to live with the 11-day gap.
