Slaves don't have alternatives. These people are obviously finding better opportunities and now they have to pay more to RETAIN employees.

THAT is the beauty of capitalism.
That or they’re trying to bribe their workers to prevent them from escaping the factory

I'm sure that even many in US would appreciate $55 bonus per day. Just like many in EU. If you make $2000 a day $55 can seem low/slavery.

5,000 yuan is almost 700 USD
Plus their normal pay comes out to around $1000/month.
I used to live on $820/month in the US! So these people need to stop complaining.

People moan and whine but when Apple leaves there (and they will someday) they will take their money with them. Then where will these people be?

P.S. China: You're welcome for our American company paying the wages of your people. Enjoy it while it lasts.

How many iPhones does each worker produce per month. I realize it is an assembly line and several people likely work on each device but just assuming it is the same person how many man hours does it take?

I prefer 55 per hour thank you.
I also need 15 minute breaks on the hour.
An emotional space where I can process my thoughts.
Week ends off and generous PTO.
And this is exactly why manufacturing job back in US would hike the price ten fold.
Be hold, the $11000 starting price iPhone 16 Pro Max.

Sounds like a good gig, where do I sign up? I think someone went to China to try to get their old job back, and they were laughed at, and escorted off premises. I heard it was a video direct to DVD at some time. *shrug*

Yes people talking about slavery, meanwhile buying apple products, don't feel sad, be happy, you ARE part of the problem!!
Says the guy who is reading "MacRumors" and typing his post on an Apple product...
Income and living standards are different in every country... and it is Chinese government's problem to deal with...
A base model iPhone 14 would cost you at least $3600 if they were made and manufactured in the US
So blaming Apple or any other company for outsourcing to factories in China is senseless...

I guess you haven’t heard how many hours a week they have to work. And in what conditions they have to work. You wouldn’t be so fast to sign up.

If you had left the context of my post...

Yeah, the Chinese didn't think that an 'American' could be a good worker. I'm sure that's true to a point. I freaked out when one of my clients went to a 4 day workweek. I couldn't see working 10 hours a day, and only having one extra day (potentially) off. That's a lot of work for one day. They got there at 6A, and said they beat the morning traffic. Well, yeah but...

Could I see working 12+ hours a day for six days? Seven days? We live in a country that valued workers (once) and tried to balance their work life with their personal life. Those kind of conditions were ended decades ago, but the did exist here, and might return too at some point, who knows.

But Chinese workers are also touted as being very flexible, and in their plants they often work several 'jobs' across the company during a day, or week. Henry Ford set people down and they did that task, over and over, day in day out, all day, all week, all year. Trading off tasks/jobs would make a heck of a lot more sense IMO. I hated a 'piece work' job I had. I had a quota and had to, to save my job, not break quota. HAH! I could break their quota before lunch time! (I did not last long there, and they didn't last long either)

$55 a day bonus slavery? You are either so rich or just upper middle class and out of touch with normal people. I don’t know any working class person in the United States that would consider a $55 a day bonus slavery.
I’m pretty sure that user was more referring to their regular job pay and hours and conditions more than the bonus.

My job’s like that. They bribe me to not stop working.

I had a great client that had a sarcastic VP. Once he was me coming in the door and in aloud voice said 'You're here again?' And I said 'Yeah, they keep paying me, so I keep coming back!' He said Yeah, well I can fix that. They were pretty awesome, even him. He once gave me a compliment. A few others in the business office heard it, and were 'shocked'. *shrug* I didn't work there, and was glad I didn't, but they were great to me.
