Would've been nice if the article included what may have been the (average) pay for the Foxconn workers to give an indication of the reasonableness of the bonus.
It did
Employees who work for more than 25 days can get a maximum bonus of 5,000 yuan for the month, up from 1,500 yuan, and those who put in "full effort" can earn a bonus of over 15,000 yuan. Most workers earn between 3,000 and 4,000 yuan on a monthly basis.

$55 BONUS... PER DAY... is slavery?

That wouldn't be half bad HERE for an awful lot of jobs. And factory assembly line work, no matter how you slice it, isn't one of the most high paying jobs anywhere.
Yea for 8h, I'd take almost $7 more per hr

At least it is almost more than what I make. And it is just the bonus.
Heck unless you make some obscene $$$, it's almost $7/h more for an 8h day. I'll take that. I want to know what I need to do for full effort.

EDIT: If I could achieve full effort, that would be $11.90 more an hour. That's more than some even make period

When does Timm COOK take remarkable action to change production line away from China to e.g. South Korea or partially Taiwan and to audit working conditions at FOXCONN site – a scandal, what clips and photos to see from there these days.

Is it such a drama to reduce profit about 10% and improve the working situation of iPhone producing people?

AWAKE to responsibility and audit the whole production chain! :apple:☝️

Otherwise this reduces customers feeling and experience remarkably 🙂

People talking about slavery and will complain if their Apple product price goes up!
Because it makes them feel good. They buy their Apple products and if they complain about the conditions then they did something so it’s all good now. They don’t actually want to pay more money so Apple can pay their employees more. Don’t be ridiculous 😂

The article doesn’t even mention the regular pay, so I don’t see how he could be doing that. Also, I’m sure the regular pay is not as much as it would be in the USA but you have to count cost-of-living that’s what wages are based on. If you go to California, you’re going to make more money per hour versus if you go to Texas. You’re not really making more money, it’s just more expensive to live there. $55 is a lot of money in China. I’ve visited the country and you can live really cheap there and still live good.

Do you think American companies offer bonuses because they wanna be good for the workforce? Seriously of course they’re offering it to get people.

Would've been nice if the article included what may have been the (average) pay for the Foxconn workers to give an indication of the reasonableness of the bonus.
It's not the first time that Foxconn had troubles with employee retention, as it most likely has a bad reputation in the area given its history (i.e. working conditions) and now the continuing CoV lockdowns. But there are lots of people who need job.

"Foxconn will give returning workers a sign-on bonus of 9,500 Chinese yuan ($1,498) on top of their monthly wages of 6,865 Chinese yuan ($1,082,) and first-time employees will receive 9,000 Chinese yuan ($1,419,) according to the South China Morning Post, citing a job posting."
Business Insider, Jan, 2022

The current wage amount may have changed by then.
From a Reuters article about this issue:

“Foxconn’s notice on Tuesday also said those who work for more than 25 days could get a maximum bonus of 5,000 yuan ($687 USD) for the month, up from previous maximum of 1,500 yuan ($206 USD), as part of an effort to “gradually resume orderly production” and to “thank our fellow employees’ persistence.”

Those who put in their “full effort” during November, including forgoing any leave, could be paid a total bonus of over 15,000 yuan ($2061 USD) for the month, the notice added.

A typical Foxconn worker makes between 3,000 to 4,000 yuan ($412 to $550 USD) a month.

A worker told Reuters on Tuesday she had decided to quit despite the bonuses on offer because what they had faced was “horrible”. However, some of her colleagues were convinced to stay for the extra money, she added.”

My take:
[We don’t know what the average workday is either at Foxconn. The average monthly wage varies on region – Yunnan’s minimum wage level (RMB 1,350/US$213 per month) is slightly higher than that in Anhui (RMB 1,340/US$212 per month). Currently, Shanghai has the highest monthly minimum wage among 31 provinces (RMB 2,590/US$400 per month) and Beijing has the highest hourly minimum wage (RMB 25.3/US$3.9 per hour). Eight regions – Shanghai, Guangdong, Beijing, Tianjin, Jiangsu, Shandong, Hubei, and Zhejiang – have surpassed the RMB 2,000 (US$308) mark in their monthly minimum wage standards.]

So it appears the typical Foxconn Apple workers already make better than the highest minimum wages in China in more urban areas, up to 50-100% better. Now with additional bonuses to keep the factory workers on site and working, Foxconn workers could do even better. Considering many of these are workers from much less affluent or rural areas with much less income potential, this kind of work, somewhat seasonal, and of course, rather demanding and arduous under tech assembly line conditions, offers a chance to really make a financial difference for their families.

Funny though, we never hear about or know what Android and domestic Chinese smartphone and electronics (which already are much less expensive re: cheaper) manufacturers can afford to pay workers if they are somehow to eke out a profit.]

Does it really “reduce customers feeling and experience remarkably”? Apple was breaking revenue records YoY, even during the pandemic. And from the last call, seems like Apple cannot make iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Mac enough for the demand. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Yeah, a lot of people look at direct currency conversions and not what wages are in the country. Wages are based on cost of living so in China, you don’t make nearly as much as you would in the USA but it doesn’t cost you as much to live either.

I don’t think android phones get the same attention because they don’t have the name Apple behind them. I suspect working at a factory, making an android phone isn’t any better than working making an iPhone. Factory jobs are not fun at all. I know people who work in factories and I wouldn’t do that job. I knew someone who worked at a plastics factory in the USA and while he was there, one of his coworkers got badly burned on the face by hot plastic. It’s not worth it for what they pay.

No, most people don’t care about where their phone is made. Most things you own are made in some country by workers in poor working conditions. People want the lowest price possible. Sure they care about what happens when their products are made but not more than they care about saving money. Why do you think clothes are imported from overseas. People don’t want to pay some person $20 an hour to make their jeans. People had a fit when Apple raised the price of the MacBook Air $200. How much do you think it would increase the price if they went all out on improving workers conditions. No one would buy the MacBook Air 😂

Answer: YES,
if you are aware of global human rights and look with the necessary sensitivity to working and living conditions in the country your products are delivered from.

In China these conditions are well known bad ones – question now cleared enough?

Tim COOK go! :apple:👍

Exactly. As much as the noise is making, in the end, it's just noise as the reality of the market spoke otherwise. Even those who are loud at Ebit actually making the changes in their own personal choics.

The fact that the Apple brand is in high regards in China, and it's one in the top 5 smartphone brands in market share over there, even the Chinese don't seem to mind.

The normal Chinese people are poor and have no money for the expensive Apple iPhones – the immoral chinese leaders and businessmakers, so the ones who get profits through the political system and corruption in China are the customers.

The Chinese government is same rude and ignorant to the people's needs like the working conditions in FOXCONN plant – THIS is the topic and not the regards in China and not the money or market share – now understood?

$55 a day is close to what American's make working an 8 hour shift at minimum wage. A bonus of $55 a day is not bad. And yes I understand these people are probably working crazy long hours at a cost to their physical and mental well being.
Well.. not so fast. In AZ at least most fast food places are paying between 15-19/hour right now. that's at least $120/day
