You have learn to check the numbers when reading MR.

from your past postings as I am remember reading …..assumptions and your manipulation of facts even though they might be from a source lack to be desired. your overestimate or just assume lack to be desire. more times and now you’re just manipulating. Sorry

Guess I'm in the minority camp of people that wanted this.

I was hoping that this would enable a dual tier button press like on the Mac trackpad to support more media controls without having to use the screen (ironically a big win for glove users despite the multitude of opinions otherwise). Haptic volume buttons combined with an action button being customizable might have finally meant you can Play/Pause, Volume Up/Down, Forward/Backward track (hard press volume buttons) all without interacting with the screen -- a dream come true!!! It would have been like using an old school tape player or something.

It would also enable a legitimate two stage camera trigger! Here's hoping for next year I guess.
I wanted it too. It would have had a much more flexible use case

a solid state capacitive button like the home button on the iPhone 8 and similar won’t work at all if you are wearing gloves. It doesn’t matter how hard you press it, it just won’t be triggered. How can it possibly be ‘a win’ for gloves users?
Where gloves that let you interact with screens etc

If you want to keep secrets until the last moment, you need control over everything and everyone. Loyalty of the employee is very important. Steve Jobs succeeded many times. When Apple became too big, it's difficult to stop leaks. It could be that they leak them on purpose to hide the big surprise. Unfortunately we haven't seen any surprises for the past 10 years.
We'll never see surprises again. Apple, like Disney, has realized that the best way to maintain a steady flow of cash isn't to innovate and push boundaries, but to repackage proven commodities many times over again. In both hardware and software, the Mac and iPhone have remained virtually unchanged for the last 15 years. The majority of "features" they've rolled out are little more than useless bloat. Contrast that with the previous 15 years and Apple was rolling out new products sometimes before their predecessors had even completed their life cycles. (cf. iPod Mini > iPod Nano).

Might have to shell out for a 15 Pro Max, to upgrade my 12 Pro Max. I sure as hell don't want solid state buttons, so if that holds me off for a few more years, so be it.

That’s because the iPhone 8 haptics worked differently than what was being implemented here. Leaks indicated that Apple maintained glove compatibility for these new buttons to the extent that the haptic feedback could be increased in a “glove mode.” There’s no way Apple would ship an iPhone with a lock button that doesn’t work with gloves. Meanwhile the home button never needed to work with gloves because the home button is only useful when you’re using the screen (I.e no gloves), not the case with the lock button

they can add solid state buttons for power and volume + and - BUT leave MUTE SWITCH. Mute switch is the best thing that Iphone has. Why they want to replace it with some dumb button? With switch you always know 100% if you muted or unmuted because left is always mute. You don't even have to think and check if you muted the phone. With the button it will be much worse like "omg did I click once or twice, did it mute or unmute. I don't know so I have to check in the options menu". It sux.

My guess is that they finally realised that solid-state buttons are not as satisfying as mechanical buttons.
