Fingers crossed (and ready haha) for the return of TouchID!
Yeah, fingers crossed. I really hope this is the year of the return of Touch ID. As someone who is always wearing a mask, and will keep wearing one in the future (regardless of it being mandatory or not), I really need touch ID, that’s why I keep using an iPhone 8.

This year is the last year we’ll see an iPhone mini, so that makes it crucial for me, I really really need this year’s iPhones to come with Touch ID.

I really wish this new SoC is built using the latest ARM V9 architecture... That would lead to massive performance and power efficiency improvements, like the ones announced on the new Cortex-A710 and the new Cortex-A510.

This would really be great because my last three iPhones all suck on battery usage. I want to use my iPhone without neutering down features or turn off Bluetooth during the day. With my AirPods Pro, combined with the Apple Watch slaved to the iPhone 12 Pro Max, I'm good for about four hours of continuous use, and that's about it.

Wahoo. Can't wait for that sweet, sweet 120 Hz in this year's iPhones.
But my understanding is close to nothing can be viewed in 120 right now, at least on phones? Someone enlighten me. I have an 11 and I’m really thinking of keeping it until 14 shows up. Is a better screen refresh rate needed?

Having seen 120hz on an iPad UI a year or two ago and not owning any Apple devices that currently have it, it’s kind of like Retina. Once you have it you’re NOT going back. It really does make the UI look buttery smooth.

Note that’s not content, that’s the UI.

i would really like the battery % back in the top right.
I'd rather have longer battery performance and life first. The percentage at that point would not really matter to most if we get 10hrs full day on screen time.

We can always ask Siri for %'s or set low power mode when needed automatically, when your phone starts that up YOU KNOW you're in dire need to charge asap.

V9 will have very little effect on performance and power efficiency. Most of what is in v9 is incorporating optional things from v8, which apple has already done. What remains has nothing to do with performance.

I believe iOS games can also support 120Hz, as Fortnite does on the iPad. It’s mostly beneficial for scrolling and UI animation smoothness. It probably won’t be as noticeable as it is on the larger-screened iPads, though.

Can't wait to utilise all the extra power when sending a cat emoji on iMessage and reading the news...

Funny, but not really the point of having a more powerful chip, is it? With Apple's designs, a more powerful chip equates to more power efficiency, thereby reducing power consumption while performing the same tasks as the previous generation.

Most of these "improvements" are already in Apple's designs. So while we might see some improvement if Apple adopts Armv9, It won't be as significant as these claims.

Does a 120hz display present a challenge with battery life?

If so, would that negate any benefits of a slightly larger battery?

Asking as a potential iPhone 13 mini buyer.

It’s my belief that Apple hasn’t implemented 120hz on the iPhones because of that consideration, but if it’s there in the 13’s it will be because they’ve finally gotten that hurdle cleared from the production capacity standpoint. It’s why the iPads tend to be the launching pad for their display improvements. They move millions of iPads, but they move 10x more iPhones so the iPad is the testbed.

Can't wait to upgrade! My XS Max has been rock solid for the past 2.5 years but I'm ready for that smooth 120 hz and much improved camera!

Given the usual 100 days from the start of production, this puts iPhone 13 in early September which lines up with all previous rumors about an early launch this year.

My Apple Watch allows me to unlock the phone with my mask on.

I wonder if Apple will introduce the A15 bionic to the Ipad Air 5 first before the Iphone 13, like they did with the A14 Bionic.
It's not likely. The iPhone launch was delayed a few weeks last year which pushed it to after the iPad launch. I doubt that will be a factor this year. Apple has previously preferred to launch their new chips on the iPhone.

GeekBench scores and lab numbers do not matter. real world usage difference matters.

Why would you need such a chip if the iPhone can't run Mac apps? Totally useless!1!!"°!!
