Whhhhhhyyyyyyyy would Apple release a new model of MacBook Pro where the only update is its power? The M1 Max and M1 Ultra have more power than most people really need and if they want more, they can go for a desktop like the Mac Studio or Mac Pro.

Until they can start using a 4 or 3nm chip, there’s no valid reason for refreshing the MacBook Pro other than greed. And given we always hear on MacRumors how they’re taking weeks to source components and ship custom MacBooks, it’s silly that they’re adding more demand to the strained supply chain. Not to mention, the practise is contradictory to Apple‘s “earth loving“ tenet.

I just hope a new model creates a trickle down price reduction for the M2 MacBook Pro so I can get a bit more power and the right amount of storage (1tb).
Sounds like you're upset that your Macbook Pro is about to become outdated.

No interest at all. Wake me up at 3 nm. My M1 Pro MacBook Pro 16 is way more computer than I need. The only reason for an upgrade to 3 nm is even more ridiculous battery life. And even then I'm not sure I'd upgrade.
See above. These posts from people upset that they're no longer going to have the best are absolutely useless. Mods should start deleting them.

I was initially holding out for the M2 MBP, but picked up a 16" M1 a few months ago as Amazon were doing a nice discount on all models. The other thing that worried me was a price rise on the new models and, with the recent hike in the UK for the iPhone 14, I have an awful feeling the MBPs are going to get the same.

Over the moon with my M1, so absolutely no regrets.
They're going to be at the same price, more powerful, and for the higher configs probably better battery life.

I am upgrading from a 2010 17" MBP, so I'm sure any computer will be super fast. But, I would like to see some new 14" and 16" computers enter the running with the M2 chips that the Air and 13" have, even if it makes my decision harder.

For those saying these M2 Pros are pointless, they aren’t. All summer, I’ve been wanting to buy my very first MacBook (been a PC person all my life) and been considering it. But been seeing rumors of these M2 Pros. I’ve been waiting and if the rumors are true, I will definitely be buying a 16”!

It would not surprise me if Apple did release another MacBook Pro this October. They will probably more than likely stick to the every 12-18 months update.

Better wait for the M3, I hear that it is godly.

From the perspective of a maxed-out 16” M1 Max … the sooner the M2 is released, the sooner the M3 is released. Waiting to see the improvements brought about by the 3nm process and beyond. The sooner the better all across the board. Bring on the future!

I just don't see a MacBook M1 Pro upgrade considering how late they shipped out and the long delays, they'll stick with the 18+ month ordeal. Other Macs could be in-play though.

if the front camera takes a similar approach as the New Dynamic Island then it will make things interesting.
It would be more fun to see music and notifications in the MacBook screen. Hopefully they show more than just spec bumps.

There are unlikely to be any design changes in the MBPs this year or probably for a while. Historically, Apple releases a new hardware design and then uses for that several years while doing spec bumps of the processor and other internals about once a year or so. This is not like phones where the hardware changes every year.

Yep, the 2014/2015 MBPs were/are great. My 2014 is still running incredibly well, plenty fast enough for the Photoshop work I do, but if these M2s are released then it'll be the perfect time to pick up a used M1 at a big discount to do some video work.
Roughly how much do prices drop on MBP's when new models are released?

This is exactly what I'm looking to do. Wait for the new releases and either buy used M1 or if prices drop a lot on new, then I'll buy a new M1.

To be consistent they need to give it the same pill shaped 'dynamic island' for pro models. It's odd their new notch design that took years in the making, is outdated already. I don't like the black keyboard section either.
