Lotta jokes in here about the phone not fitting. In our Subaru, my wife's 6+ only fits in the console in the front if it is positioned with the end facing back toward us. If she puts it in there, we cannot move the shifter back into park. It actually is a real problem. Obviously it is one that we can and do avoid, but if that were the only spot to charge, people might have a little bit of trouble more than just the inconvenience.

I had a 2017 GMC Yukon as a rental the other day. It had a wireless charging pad integrated into the console. Too bad it was too small for my Note 8. Already outdated and extremely slow wireless charging means this is going to be a frustrating thing. It needs to be wireless fast charge otherwise your phone drains faster than it charges.

Since people keep cars for 5 to 10 years, manufacturers really need to figure this out quickly. Otherwise it's going to be a dated gimmick from the get-go.

Make an opening with an easily replaceable mat so you can upgrade, otherwise I don't see how this is just like when they cars got the original iPod / iPhone connector and by the time many integrated it, they were outdated as the phones went to lightning.

The support doc says those models don't have a Qi-certified charger, so the charging won't work with iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, and iPhone X even though it works w/ Samsung devices. Guess they're tweaking it in 2018 and later models.
I'd be quite sure that if you have a 2017 Bolt, you can go down to your dealer and order the 2018 phone charging module and exchange it with the one in your car....2018 charger.

Lol, I know...hotel alarm clocks and treadmills still have the old 30-pin plug.

Ok.

I still have the lightning-to-30-pin adapter on my radio. Every time I think about switching out to an aftermarket CarPlay system, I remind myself that it works just fine (enough). I’ve been talking myself out of an upgrade for years now, but switching to a Qi charger and wireless CarPlay might be too tempting to wait much longer.
