What are you going to replace your MacBook Pro, iPhone, and iPad with when they remove the audio port?

Its one thing to say you will do something and another thing entirely to actually do it.

I for one will join him. I've already replaced my 5k iMac with a Windows 10 Machine I built. I haven't purchased a new iPad since I lost my 3rd Gen iPad because they canabilized the mute switch off of it. iPhone is the only thing Apple has going that's worth having.

I don't understand how Apple can call this a pro machine. Pro's need an Ethernet port, USB 3 ports, USB C ports, headphone ports and SD card slots and high end dedicated graphics with hdmi port.

I'm a network admin and carrying dongles around for everything I do does nothing for the clean lines of the MBP Johnny Ive is shooting for.

My next laptop will be an HP that has all the ports I need is thinner, faster and is cast in aluminum.

Apple doesn't understand that now that everyone has caught up to them, the only difference is software that "just works" Now that they have let that motto go and the software go with it they have no advantage. Pulling ports doesn't make me say "I have to have that!"

We don't want thin, we want products that make our lives easier. Dongles don't make our lives easier. 32gb iPhones don't make our lives easier. IMovie doesn't make our lives easier, Final Cut Pro doesn't make our lives easier, thin slippery glass phones don't make our lives easier, ringtone drm doesn't make our lives easier, iTunes and the Music app and the AppStore interfaces don't make our lives easier. Apple making Mac Pro's obsolete because they won't write a firmware update doesn't make our lives easier. AirPlay drop outs don't make our lives easier. Photos app doesn't make our lives easier. Obsoleting 3rd gen Apple tv's doesn't make our lives easier, Apple pulling digital signatures for iPad software updates causing bricked iPads doesn't make our lives easier.

You know what made our lives easier? the original iPod, a $99 a year .mac subscription. The original iLife suite (iTunes, iPhoto, iMovie, GarageBand, iWeb) Well performing PowerMac G4's that were well priced in three simple models Good,Better, best. Final Cut Pro in the early days, the original no App Store iPhone, The original Mac Mini priced at $499. These things simply just worked. Most of them are gone or Apple has lost any value they once had by making horrible changes for the sake of change.

Yep I'll continue to dump Apple products until they can restore some confidence that they care for their customers needs.

Isn't it too late for a survey if the MBP update is expected this fall?
Either the new Mac will be released at the beginning of 2017 or the survey won't effect the new design.
I didn't receive any mail from Apple but I bought my last MBP in 2009, now I have a MBA, I wonder if they send the mail only to customers who bought a MBP recently

I am a pro and you are including me in the 'we'.....
I don't need 32gb ram, an Ethernet port, USB 3 ports and also a headphone port. Nor do I need a physical mute switch on my iPad as you can hold the volume for that extra millisecond and it mutes. And I do want thinner and lighter with reasonable power.

Obviously your personal needs are different though and is probably time to jump ship.

I'm surprised this wasn't in the "political" thread. That being said, I do use the headphone port, when I'm trying not to annoy my roommates in these paper-thin walls.

However, the headphones I do use in this case are EarPods, so if the MacBook had a Lightning port to use my new iPhone 7 EarPods, I would be in the same boat I am now, and just as happy. Minus the position I'm in dealing with roommates in paper-thin walls..............

Thanks for asking

yep this was my concern as soon as I saw the thread - isn't it a little late to be asking this, unless it means a delayed pro.

Let's see..

Wire headsets, you cannot tell what people are listening too or interrupt the stream...

Wireless or bluetooth over the air headsets...Humm....

Big Brother...1984...? Not a conspiracy person, but with all of the collection of information, they are covering everything and have to think a little...but now they don't want you to think anymore.. do everything for you goal...

I'm afraid we'll have to wait until their spring event to see the new Macs...
I can wait another year to upgrade my Air, but I'm considering a refurbished unit and it takes time for new Macs to be available as refurbished so I really hope they'll start selling it before the end of 2016

Remove it Apple, and push the industry towards a better solution.

Windows?

No, these things are sometimes just marketing teams working out how to best sell a product. In this case the port may already be gone, and they're just fishing for data on how to best spin it to customers.

Yes, neuter their pro line by removing all of the ports that people use. It's not like people need a fully functioning laptop when they could just buy a bunch of accessories to make it function like it's supposed to. In fact, why don't we make it just like the regular mac book by having only one port do everything?

I am looking through a "Window-s" and outside beyond is an "Apple" Tree..

I guess eventually that will be the norm again....

Granted my late 2014 Mac Mini has a headphone jack and this survey is aimed towards Pro users but if Apple *did* go ahead and cull it I'd hope they'd build in a microphone somewhere for Siri in MacOS Sierra.

Perhaps Apple should read this forum and they'd have an answer to all their survey questions.

Removing the headphone jack from a MacBook Pro is the dumbest thing I've come across in recent times.

They should call Tim Cook, Dongle Tim. As the guy seems obsessed with convoluting the user experience.

Get rid of that useless Thunderbolt port and get us USB-C, users of TB are more of a minority than the headphone jack ones...
Why not use Thunderbolt 3.0? Thunderbolt 3.0 uses the SAME connector as USB-C, and it is 100% compatible with USB 3.1, and with an adapter, it is backwards compatible with TB1 and TB2.

The survey is nothing to do with the forthcoming MBPs where the ports will have been decided months ago; this is for a future design.

And they didn't ask me either, I bought my last MBP in late 2013.

If Apple was to replace the 3.5 mm jack with a long-range wireless charger, so I wouldn't need to care about charging wireless earbuds or have batteries to the mouse, I would say:

Go ahead!

The future is wireless, we should not cling on to cables, but we do need a solution for wireless power. The charging inconvenience is at least as big as the cable inconvenience.

May not be for the forthcoming, like someone said earlier, may be a marketing survey in order to better figure out what to write for the keynote to brainwash everyone to think this is a good move next month...

I'm just a bit sad that they are still in the survey stage...

Maybe they are looking forward for the next MBPro? (in 5-6 years? ^^)

I was really hoping for a Mac refresh around the release of Sierra...

Gone is the dream of a Mac (a full blown motherboard that accept desktop CPU from intel and customizable by the user... I'm sure there are old MPro towers lying around somewhere ^^)

The mac mini isn't has interesting as a mini server with the 4-cores gone.

iMac are pretty cool, but GPUs definitely need to be refreshed more often.

While CPU haven't evolved a lot, the rest definitely has.
Every tier of product could use faster ports, faster iGPUs, and dGPUs.

these posts remind me of the 'don't remove the dvd drive' days.

I say go ahead and remove the headphone jack and replace all ports with the latest Thunderbolt specs, but please keep the sd card slot.
Dongles are fine until the external hardware catches up, I can live with it as I need to.

I bought the macbook when it first came out last year and never was once bothered about the 1 USB C port - 0 effect on my life [I also never plugged headphones into it - always use my iPhone for music]. I use cloud services for storage and the computer did everything I wanted it to.

change always seems to worry people but for me the removal of the dvd drive probably was a bigger deal than the removal of the headphone jack, considering bluetooth headphones exist.

In fact I would rather they remove the headphone jack and put a lightening port in so that my iPhone 7 is fully compatible with my computer.

As usual these are my personal preferences :)

They already know from the diagnostic logs how many use the headphones, remember when they removed the CD drive it was based on data from the logs, this survey is purely for media attention.

wtf.. this is such a crap beyond believe. what will be the reason this time? are they planning to make the MBPs water resistant also now ? Or they want to cut another half mm ?
