A giant iPhone. I cannot state how underwhelmed I am.

But it shows where the journey goes with Apple: Locked-down iPhone OS devices who won't be fueled by imagination (thank you, Simpsons) but only by dollars washing through the iTunes Store.

Thank you for the wake-up call, Steve. I will put my money in something else in the future.

That's because its FAKE. Do you really think Steve Jobs would produce something this silly? Can't you see that this has all been an elaborate prank by the rumor sites!?

Yeah engadget says it is the ultimate tease... he's just playing with us now...

There's an awful lot of crying in this thread for a device that is officially less than half an hour old which no one here has even seen within (generously) 500 feet. :D

engadget

10:21AM This is the ultimate tease. We've got a sneaking suspicion there's a lot more to come.

and i agree

Let me guess: That is not the real iPad. Steve just teases us with a failed prototype first before going to the real exciting stuff!!!

The iPhone OS is clearly the advantage over other tablet that mostly used desktop OSes.

Yeah but in OneNote I at least get hand writing recognition and speech recognition. And I can even search in audio notes etc.

Such essential stuff doesn't seem to be included in the iPad.

I didn't expect in anyway to be even thinking about buy a tablet computer, but this thing really looks rubbish so far.

Would rather have a laptop any day . . .

Engadget is the only feed still working reliably. Kudos to them for anticipating load and for the nifty auto-refresh.

Edit: haha, I jinxed it: connection reset.

So juvenile... yet I laughed.

Anyway I expect to see a lot of "Just like the iPhone..." type comments whenever the iPad (*snicker*) is mentioned.

I know it was juvenile, but there was an advert for such a product on the television when i read the gizmodo feed.

Will wait till he's finished before I pass judgement on the actual product. Price will the be the biggest factor in the success of this though.

Glad to see Google Maps still mentioned. Maybe Apple could do something great with maps on their own (as rumored), but I KNOW Google already does.

(Those rumors and job hirings re iPhone Maps at Apple could just be for the front end, anyway. After all, the front end already is by Apple even though the back end is Google.)

no flash? . . . so a netbook CAN do more. . .

FAIL!!!!

It's just an enlarged glorified iPod touch, where is the inovation???

Seems lame so far

Hate to admit it but it seems lame.

They haven't solved the problem of how to hold a tablet. Proping it up on your knee is not practical.

So what. Its a big iPhone can surf the web. Like I've never seen that before.
Apple must really be full of themselves if they think this is something revolutionary.
Hey look a calendar! Who knew you could do that on a laptop or phone!?

And I can't run whatever application I want on it. I am restricted to only run Apple approved apps. Oh joy.

I wonder if the stock will rebound after this lame event. Apple still making money on other sources of income. This thing is a flop. Makes Apple TV look good.

Well, thankfully, I wont need to spend any more hard earned cash on this. IMO, for someone that already owns an iPhone, and a laptop, this is pretty useless.

Yeah, I know, 100th person to say this, but it really is a giant iPhone, LOL. I'd have been parting with cash today if it was a real tablet, running a real version of OS X.

3 inches smaller than a closed Macbook Pro, but comes with no keyboard/trackpad. You do gain touch capability but ... mmm. I'd not really seeing the point at the moment.

There has to be more to come. Bring it Steve...
