I don't exactly remember saying that Apple "owns" the products you purchased, But they still have terms and conditions that go with the products.

Nope, Again I didn't say that Apple still OWNS the device, They have terms and conditions that people should abide to. Period.

I like structure. I believe in rules. I don't live life doing whatever I want just because I can. I actually have morals, and respect people's property.

And yes, I do not like too much freedom, Too much of anything is a bad thing.

All I can see is thankfully I live in America as it exists in reality and not in your screwed up fascist version. Sieg heil!

Legally, you own and can modify the hardware as you wish; the only illegal modification I can think of you could do to an iPhone is to modify the radio in a manner that violates FCC guidelines. I've yet to see anyone walking around with an iPhone strapped to a big battery and a giant antenna so I'd guess nobody really cares about doing such a thing, and they'd probably fry the radio chip before they could break the law anyway.

By using the phone, you do agree to Apple's EULA for the software, and violating the EULA voids the warranty for the hardware (however, I think you could take them to court and win although I'm NOT a lawyer).

Otherwise, you can do whatever the heck you want - you could paint it white, drop it in a toilet, smash it and kick it in front of Steve Jobs to show your dissatisfaction with his company, or install Linux on it (even WP7!) and there's nothing that Steve Jobs or Apple can do to you.

AT&T and Verizon aren't obligated to provide service for your phone if they find out you're using it to do something nasty on their network though, but again most forms of mods aren't going to be doing that lol.

I think your family should do an intervention and take you in for deprogramming.

It is *absolutely* my right to take apart my phone once I've paid for it. I can also run over it with my car, blend it, fling it, sell it, etc. I *own* it.

okay let me rephrase.. its not like a "constitutional right" just like the people throwing a hissy fit over airport security... if they dont want to go through it then they shouldnt fly, its not a right to fly, its a privilage.. just like this situation.. so basically im just saying that this overall isnt a big deal at all!!! so if you dont want to put up with apples control, then simply dont buy an iphone and PROBLEM SOLVED!!!

Shame on them?

What business is it of anybody to tell Apple what to do?

They don't want people to open their stuff.
Thanks for pointing out that the Apple products I purchased are still property of Apple.

I thought after paying for them, I was the owner.

The only thing is, when you take in a device for repair, you sign a large waiver. In that waiver, somewhere, you're authorizing Apple to make changes to the hardware. Thus, they change the screws, and you've pre-approved it.

Now, is that right? I think much about it; but I could see the issue being that they don't supply tech support with any other screws, so they just use what they have. And don't say they will just re-use the screws they took out, because how repairs work, many times they don't think twice about throwing away old screws because often the are stripped or have issues being removed. Replacing them just makes more logical sense then trying to keep the screws around and reuse them. I've seen many techs do just this.

so basically... someone is trying to cash in on Apple's decision to protect consumers from their own monkeying around by selling them a kit. Someone should develop an app that detects pentalobular screw... I am sure that would sell like hotcakes right now.

I custom upgraded the ram on my MBP a while back, it was tough to get the screws loose and tough to get them to sit correctly to put back in, but it wasnt that huge of a deal for me. (mid 2009)

If you cry babies really want to open your phone, which let me tell you something out of the MILLIONS of people who use their phone as an ACTUAL phone only a small fraction of them OPEN them, follow this link:

http://www.google.com/search?client...QrQQwBA&biw=1499&bih=1134&fp=25a0b2344dc0e416

It really isn't that hard to open a phone if you really want to. And if you don't like Apple's **** go buy another phone. Apple doesn't care that 10 people can't open their phone, because to be honest, there is really no reason why you would need to open it yourself without taking it to the apple store. Modding it, sure okay but if you think apple is bad...

Let me give you some examples of other gadgets you can't open without some sort of consequence:

XBOX, you void your warranty and you are not allowed to mod it and play it online. Now in days xbox without an internet connection would be like having a phone without a network.

SOFTWARE: You can't open purchased software because it violates the user agreement.

DVDs, you can't copy them and 'modify' them because it's stealing.

Besides, if you really really wanted to mod your iPhone I'm sure there are ways to do it without crying.

Boys and girls, Apple is a corporation. They have reasons to do this, to make money. If you think that doing this is bad, then you are retarded because YOU BAUGHT IT, and by buying you practically promote it. It's like people who love animals but eat them. It's like marching for the fight against cancer while smoking a cigaret, It's like being a prostitute in church. It's like working for Microsoft and wearing a shirt that says: we make great software, It's like wiping before you poop. You are complaining about a freedom that YOU HAVE, it's like volunteering to go to prison, and then complaining about the water.

catch my drift dillio?

Well they either re-used my screws or had regular phillip's head screws cause mine still has phillip's head.

Shhhh! If daddy Steve sees this, you're laptop might just "conveniently" malfunction in the next few days to get it back in the hands of his minions, so he can put the screws in "his" computer that he knows are best for it. Afterall...he knows we all need protection from ourselves to not be needling around in "his" toys. :D

Apple is doing it to save you from voiding your warranty. So i wouldn't get so angry when they are trying to save you $199 because you wanted to be a wannabe Mac Genius and take apart your phone, or you just made the video so that people will buy your product so that other apple customers can void their devices warranty and have no other choice but to go to ifixit.....

I wouldn't listen to this dribble, leave it in the hands of the professionals at apple, when something goes wrong just take it to them 10 out of 10 times they will resolve your issue.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_2_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8C148 Safari/6533.18.5)

Ok after a couple of hours I had to watch the video. You guys are right MJ is hotter than a two dollar pistol. I they had a store near by I'd drop in just to say hi.

In a way this is akin to DRM... I mean Sony, Microsoft and others spend millions on developing methods to stop their **** being flogged... almost always in vein because someone, somewhere will find a way to circumvent it.

Apple are doing this for TWO reasons, first (the legitimate reason), so that they can have access to all repair data by ensuring that all repairs are done by authorised providers and secondly, and IMHO, more likely, so that Apple can continue to gouge people with their hefty repair pricing.

The joke has to be on Apple really because almost all of their products are now made in China which of course are the Kings of counterfeiting so inevitably, the Chinese will be churning out copies of Apple's screwdrivers by the million by lunchtime :)

Full Time Score:
Apple=0
Consumer=1

How very fortunate we are that there is a $10 "liberation" solution available from the very people that were daring enough to point out this atrocious violation of human rights.

I'm sure it has been mentioned, but at this stage, Apple may aswell use the Apple logo as their screws. That way, they can sue for unauthorised use of their logo if anyone tries to make a screwdriver... :p

That would officially make them one of the most devious b@stards out there. :p
