Wait a minute. SNL, which originally rose to prominence at least in part due to their hilarious parodies of TV ads (like the Bass-O-Matic)... is now hired to make actual TV ads?

I'm starting to understand what people mean when they say parody is dead. I wonder when the new Apple Bass-O-Matic will be coming out...

Hey Tim,

If you want to be a social justice warrior activist, then quit doing it on our time and step down as CEO of Apple, get out of the way, and let someone else take over who really cares about ALL of Apple's clients. We are not all liberal SJW's like you. Nor do we all really care about Apple's newly found social conscious. Things were much better under Steve who really could not give a crap about all of this. But he cared about making great products for his customers. Apple is a business. Not the social welfare department.

SNL has sucked for many years and its attacks on our leaders is disgraceful and not funny at all. Apple considering teaming with SNL on ads was the last straw for me.

I am sick of seeing you travel around the world spewing SJW crap while customers who have spent tens of thousands of dollars on Apple products over the years can't get products that they want and need. 1,000 days old Mac Pro. Really?

Don't even get me started on the stupid spaceship campus. What a waste of time and lots of money. You and Jony boy have been spending lots of resources designing desks and door jambs while we wait for new products that do not suck. Lately, they really suck. No innovation. No vision. No creativity.

I can't believe that we customers put up with the huge profit margins that you take on products you sell us. We have been ripped off for years. Billions in the bank. Hidden offshore. No domestic spending and development of any kind.

You can't get engineers without hiring foreigners over US Citizens? Then do something domestically to develop engineers here in this country. You can't manufacture products here cheaply enough without foreign child labor? Then develop industrial manufacturing here in this country. You act like you care, but you really do not. Take lower profit margins and help us here.

Apple is the not the face of SJW that it puts forward when it changes its logos green or you attack our leaders. Apple takes huge profit margins, hides profits overseas, hires foreigners instead of US Citizens, offshores thousands of jobs, and has done nothing to help the citizens of the country who have bought Apple products since the Steves started Apple in a garage.

Apple has become a huge disappointment to someone like me who started with Apple in 1984 and relied on Apple products personally and professionally since then.

People need to realize what a hypocrite you really are.

Shareholders won't revolt because you are giving them what they want, but customers will.

Step down and let a real CEO who cares about Apple's domestic customers take over.

Then you'll have time to host an episode of SNL yourself!
Great article, great wording.
Apple is "not" reading these reactions (and has tuned its digital shredders @Feedback to eradicate outraged customer demand rephrased as "negativity") but in the end, they responded to it.
Apparently they have someone reading it for them:D

I don't think Apple customers, or investors or management agree with your "suggestions" as this is the new Apple who seemingly is changing. It is not going back to SJ days. And a lot of what you seemingly don't like about Apple was being done in the Jobs era, so in not sure why suddenly you take issue with it.

Fwiw, I think Apple is making great products for my needs.

We are all probably victims of the era we grew up in. To me the 70s and 80s were the high point of SNL. Phil Hartman, Dana Carvey, Eddie Murphy, etc.

Agreed. I started watching it in the late 80's when I was a teenager but abandoned the show in the mid 2000's during the Tina Fey era because I couldn't stand her style of humor and since she was the head writer at the time there was no getting around it. I did go back to some of the early stuff that came out during the late 70's / early 80's when it came out on VHS during the 90's and the stuff from that early era was great too. My wife and I started rewatching it last year during the election and have kept watching it sense then. It'll never live up to stuff I grew up watching but I generally laugh at most of it. Especially when Baldwin shows up as Trump or when McCarthy shows up as Spicer.

T: Oh man, we have such a bad press at MR. It's dramatic how those readers think of us.
P: Sorry for the rumors - but I can't comment on unreleased products.
T: Well that's part of the problem: they are in anger over a lack of releases ... and a dried-up rumor circuit
P: Well there can will always be new watchbands and iPad socks, but then it's clear that with a lack of releases, things remain unreleased, so we cannot comment on that.
T: I understand that, but this logic makes them even more outrageous ...
P: I understand from Angela that all AppleStores are full of loyal customers.
T: But that's people coming in for screen and battery repairs that we keep waiting so long, that they go buy assecoiries, cases and watchbands. Plus: we hire actors to simulate customer interest. Our recent study says otherwise visitors fall asleep over 4/5 year old models and all those iPad 1, iPhone 5 retrogrades. So actors will appear everywhere. In streets, in ads, in TV shows, on the news, at Facebook. Repetitive confrontation. In fact, at SNL, you will find product placement in happy sessions without even recognizing it as a commercial. People will be confronted with such uniformity of current designs, that they forget about choice, competition and all those redundant things like innovation.
P: What a great idea. Recycling is so good for the environment. Ohh, I am getting excited. Only Apple can bring such casual advertising. Welcome to the feelgood economy !
T: We're home again. Nothing changed. Except everything stayed the same. Oh, it feels so good...

Geez, SNL hasn't been funny in years. Not sure what good this will do. They'd be better off advertising on instagram and youtube a lot more.

Yeah, the past year was like 90% partisan hackery. "Here's a 'joke' about how Hillary is stiff-but-confident and Donald Trump is the devil. Please clap."

Just when you think Apple's advertising direction couldn't have aimed lower. I 20+ years, I've never bought an Apple product based on an ad let alone its affiliation with an advertising partner.

All you have to do is build compelling products that stand on their own.

I'm less put off by the thought of Apple and SNL making commercials and more put off by the thought that SNL suddenly feels the need to add what is essentially product placement to the show.

Weekend Update, brought to you by Verizon (TM). Yeah...
