Ahead of next week's Apple event, Apple has begun teasing iPhone users about upcoming iOS 15 features using a notification from the Tips app.

"See what's coming in iOS 15," reads the notification. "Learn about new features that will help you stay connected and find focus."

Tapping the notification takes users on a brief tour of upcoming features, including Voice Isolation, the new Shared With You section in apps, Safari Tab Groups, Live Text in Photos, systemwide translation, Focus mode, notification summaries, and augmented reality walking directions in Maps.

After viewing, the iOS 15 preview is showcased in the Collections section of the Tips app, above a similar preview Apple pushed out prior to the release of iOS 14.

Apple is expected to launch iOS 15 to the public this month, and new iPhone 13 units will likely ship with a pre-installed version of the operating system.

Historically, Apple has released new iOS versions about a week after its September event, but iOS 14 was released one day after Apple's September 15 "Time Flies" event in 2020.

This year's "California Streaming" fall event is on September 14, which means if iOS 14 is any indicator of the company's new release schedule, iOS 15 could come out as early as Wednesday, September 15. For all the details on what to expect in iOS 15, check out our dedicated roundup.

yeah, and additional "benefits" to Apple's users in the US initially exclusively (currently planned for "a later date" though ....) 😂
At least you get them features, we get them 20 years later over here 🇦🇺🤦‍♂️😂

Is it safe to assume that if next tuesday is the reveal event that we will be able to order the phones on their website by next friday?

Are people that distracted that they need a focus mode and a summary of the crud in their feed once they're done being "focused"?
Without a doubt in my mind. These focus features will help a lot of distracted people. It will still require self-discipline but it'll make being productive a bit easier. Especially being able to have "work" homescreens etc.

It’s a scientific fact that eleven Macrumors readers out of ten got to this article because they were distracted by a notification about it while they were trying to get work done, and now that they’ve read through the story they forgot what they were doing before they clicked. The other three users were in the bathroom.

think I'll wait til 16/13 GA'd ... I've played the latest/greatest game too long ... I just want things to work and be tested thoroughly

I haven’t used the new focus feature yet but it looks very ellaborated and a lot of work for average users. Not sure if many people will bother setting in up.

I tried explaining it to some people, including hiding pages and notification summaries, and they looked at me with a confused face. Definitely not with anticipation.

I’m just glad it will sync over iCloud to my other devices. I hate enabling do not disturb on all of them manually.

They basically need to re-announce IOS 15 since some of it’s key features previously advertised won’t make it. Other than notes easy access, there really aren’t new features that I’d write home about… in fact i find myself disabling icloud relay and hidden IP address almost regularly due to issues and resort to my paid VPN. I know those are still beta, just saying. This year really feels like a point update on hardware and software for Apple. I’ve been saying for a while, but there really is no WOW factor, but i guess we will have to see if there is going to be a “one more thing” or if Apple has really played their hand for this year.

Even if new hardware comes out in the next couple months, across the board; until apps are fully moved over to M1 i just don’t see anything new. Just disappointed as these are supposed to be premiere top dollar and it’s getting harder to throw money at something that is just an updated slightly faster item. Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love my M1 iPad Pro, but definately out of the upgrade need every year or even 3 years now without a “must have” os feature on any device.

And how does this fit in with the ‘won’t make you use iOS15’ concession?
Will it allow you to install iOS14?
I’m assuming it’s actually easier to install a newer version (bigger number) over an older (lower number) install, so perhaps the initial setup is performed with iOS14, then it asks you if you want to ‘update’?

Or it could be that these only support iOS15, , and you can’t downgrade…

This, I use Do not Disturb if I don't want notifications for a bit. I find the best way to focus is with no notifications at all but I guess different strokes for different folks.

"augmented reality walking directions in Maps."
Ye Gods!
Now more people will be walking along with their noses buried in their phones not paying attention to anything.
Can I sue Apple if I hit one of these idiots?

Live text in Photos is good. 👍 Hopefully iOS 15 will not cause excessive battery drain. My 12 Pro Max had battery drain issue since launch day, which was fixed only in iOS 14.4. Have not updated my iPhone since then.

The iOS 14 continued support is "we won't make you update to 15 on your existing device" - new hardware is always going to be new OS only as the old OS isn't going to have the right drivers / hardware support in it and I can't see them patching that hardware support backwards into an old OS.

I turn on do not disturb in class so notifications don’t interrupt my iPad while I am teaching. Though I haven’t really played around with focus mode.
