Professionals are (rightfully) complaining, but that won't stop the flashy Starbucks crowd from wanting the latest shiny toy.

Yeah, of course, anyone that doesn't have the same priority as you in a computer is certainly not a "true pro" and are necessarily stupid hipsters that just buy a 2000$ computer for fashion reasons.

There are other things that professionals use that were removed from the new Mac so not the best argument.

And MANY things that were added:
• Four TB 3 40 Gb/sec ports, each of which permits TB daisy chaining, USB 3.1 gen 2 (10 Gb/sec) interfaces, and laptop charging,
• can support multiple hi-rez displays each via a single-cable (handling display data, display control, audio, laptop charging, and USB 3 port expansion on the display),
• a high performance color accurate DCI-P3 wide color gamut display for photographers and graphic artists,
• a huge trackpad that is "clickable" over the entire surface,
• compact size and low weight for better mobility,
• 10 hour battery,
• Bluetooth 4.2,
• Touch-ID,
• a dynamic display touch bar which offers a new method of laptop user interaction,
• updated macOS that also supports better interaction and data with iOS devices.

The hate for the new MBP is coming from the kind of people who spend time on sites like this and tend to have a much better knowledge of the products and what they want in them. To the general computer consumers the new MBP has a cool factor and will sell great, even with the high price tag.
They want 32 GB but only need 10 or 12 at most..."I want my 32 or I'm going to buy a WINDOZE!"

I don't get what all the fuss is about only being able to have 16GB of ram...I can't imagine 99.9999% of people needing more than 16GB of ram, especially since the computer is a laptop running a mobile processor and most of the an integrated GPU so its not exactly a powerhouse on the rendering front

Yeah, because there's only either "professionals" or Starbucks hipsters.. *sigh*

I, for one, am a "professional" (considering I'm using the MacBooks for running my company)

The term professional can mean many different things.

When it comes to Macs though, I always thought it had more to do with creative professionals, such as photographers, musicians, video editors, and I would also put app designers in there. I am not saying you have to be one of these type of people to use a Pro machine though.

I have a Mac Pro 1,1 and I am not what I consider a "Pro".

Also, I would not necessarily consider someone that uses their Pro machine to run their business a "Pro". Especially if the only software they use is MS Office.

BTW, I am not saying the poster I replied to is not a "Pro", I am just pointing out that "Pro" means different things to different people.

About half of the people in my circle who own MBP's are upgrading to the new model, but all of us initially intended to upgrade. I guess the rest of us are going to either wait or change platforms - it's not as big a deal as it used to be.

Sure, that's something everyone has to decide for themself. i personally don't wanna miss OS X and my MBP ist seven years old, perfect and overdue time for an upgrade :D

With my 3.5mm jack comment, I guess I was being flippant. I know why they included it - because it's absolutely everywhere. On every piece of pro audio equipment, every professional camera, broadcast monitors, VTR machines, in every TV studio, recording studio, radio studio, every domestic TV/radio, every walkie-talkie, it's in cars, aeroplanes, trains, it's on games consoles... it's everywhere!

Any computer that is worth anything needs the 3.5mm jack.

But by removing it from the phone, all the people that use headphones in all the above situations then need to swap to different headphones or fiddle about for the adaptor (assuming they haven't lost it).

I guess my point was that including it on the MBP is Apple admitting that the analogue jack is far from obsolete.
It wasn't removed from the iPhone because Apple thinks it's obsolete, it was for space considerations. If watch the launch event, they never argue that they removed it because it's obsolete.

You're absolutely right - USB-C is easily the way forward.

It just seems so odd to me that Apple are causing problems for their own customers and contradicting their own remarks.

Firstly, if you're going to tell us that the 3.5mm jack is obsolete, old technology, why then include it on the MacBook Pro?

Secondly, if you're going to release Lightning headphones, why not then have at least one lightning port on the MacBook Pro?

Considering every one of the billion iPhones that have been sold have a USB-A cable, why not just add a Lightning to USB-C cable in the MacBook Pro's box? Or, even better, why didn't they just design the iPhone 7 to use USB-C? Then you could charge the MacBook Pro from the iPhone charger and vice versa.
re: 3.5 - Many people still use legacy analog speakers if they work at a desk - these speaker systems are not Bluetooth and need the jack. In addition, there is no waterproofing/lint clogging issue with a computer as on the iPhone.
re: lightning port - get the dongle....I agree they could have included a lightning port, but it's not a showstopper...

If everyone is hating the new MacBook pro, then who's buying it.

Indeed. How can this be? The new MBP is an unmitigated disaster. A declaration of hostility by Apple against its customers. A technical and design failure that is priced too high by a factor of two. Surely the legion of complaining forum posters who insist that they speak for "everybody" cannot be wrong?

:)

I was logging on to write what you said!!

Why they didn't move the iPhone to USB-C is crazy.
Then to keep the headphone port on the MacBook Pro just doesn't make sense when they removed it from the iPhone.

For me I can't remember the last time I used headphones with my Mac but do all the time on the iPhone.
If the phones were USB-c and they offered a USB-C to headphone adapter, then it would also work on the MacBook Pro.

If Apple included at least 1 USB-C to USB-A adapter and kept the SD card slot, as well as kept the same strategy re headphone jacks, then I don't think we would be getting as many complaints.

(Also worth noting that the LG 5k monitor Apple is pushing has 3 more USB-C ports you need dongles for to use!
When it should have at least a few legacy ports...)

I'm a professional. That is to say, I use my computer to earn a living, and I will be buying the new model. I've also never set foot in Starbucks. I must be some kind of anomaly?

I will however be waiting this time around to gather information form the community after they're released. I got stung last time with an LG panel with image retention that is getting worse and worse.

When I read the article again, I'm not sure this article is news or tells us anything about how well they are selling.

It says
"Apple has told part and component manufacturers of its new MacBook Pro line-up to expect strong shipments to last until at least the end of 2016, according to sources in the upstream supply chain (via DigiTimes). "

The Touch-Bar-Pros aren't in stores yet, and no-ones got one yet.

All they are really saying is that they expect strong sales for the remaining weeks of the year. This looks like a PR leek to counter rumours / internet-beliefs that sales dipped or slowed after the initial pent up demand orders were made.
