This is so damage control. One week ago people from Apple were doubting the device now all of a sudden they are blown away. Hope it works out nonetheless.
You only need to control the damage for products you actually intend to release. So we can assume this headset nonsense is real, unlike the Apple Car. Very depressing news! So much wasted engineering potential. 😔

"Sources close to Tim Cook reveal that it cost Apple $2000000 for the market analysis to realise a $3k, not very usable headset with no real software to back it up wont necessarily be a well-selling product"

I will sit this one out.
I am sitting most tech stuff out nowadays .
I have not watched an apple event for years, I only replace stuff that is broken/unrepairable.
Apple UX is becoming WORSE (I will never install Ventura on computers I own, System prefs sux)
Apples Apps are getting worse in that they make it easy to used Apples subscription services and make it harder to use your own content.
I am heading more and more down OSS for privacy, lack of tracking, lack of ads.
I buy the dumbest TV I can, then kill all the smarts by using a RaspberryPi, or other system to add them back in knowing there is no tracking etc going on.
If you require an "App" to use your services, I don't and won't use them.
I have lost trust in a big way in big tech.
The only Apple service I have is iCloud but that is so I can get an easy email set up for my personal domain name.
No books
No music
No TV
No Games
Last App I bought was 5 years ago.

Even if this is an earth-shatteringly good VR experience, and even if by some miracle the price isn’t as insane as all reports say it will be, there’s still the huge roadblock of the public needing to experience it to believe it.

You can look at the first demo of the iPhone and get it instantly. Ditto the original Macintosh.

VR can only be accurately demonstrated via direct experience. Videos won’t cut it.

This is going to be one tough sell.

I'm really not buying the waist battery thing. Does it come with a belt? or are you expected to put it in your pocket? Not everyone has pockets, especially ones that can hold a battery so big it couldn't be built into the device.

I would think some kind of battery necklace design would make more sense if the goal is to just get the weight off your head, and would leave a shorter cord between them... but that sounds goofy too.

I think it will be a game changer. I think it will be buggy in v1, but will change the world by sparking innovation. That said, I probably wouldn't take any "apple tester's" word for it. Not like they're gonna get objective people to test their stuff.

I would think that a heavy battery banging against your chest as you move would be too distracting, and you would feel the weight more, compared to something secured to your waist.

I’m sure the tech will be amazing, and I’m trying to keep an open mind. But for me to be truly blown away, it can’t be a “headset.” I won’t be seen walking around in public with a “headset”.

Personally I’m skeptical. I agree with those who say it’s a solution looking for a problem. But what if Apple have come up with something truly amazing? A huge leap. Maybe that could be the thing that causes companies and people to find uses for this kind of thing…

I have serious doubts that Apple is going to get even modest sales out of their purported digital AR/VR ski goggles. It’s one thing to wear a pair of sun or reading glasses, but goggles that also happen to require an external battery pack and no doubt connectivity to an iPhone/iPad/Mac, not to mention cost north of $2k, is going to be a hard sell for mass market volumes, imho.
