My guess is that it won't have the thin black display bezel shown in that render, so that the display area will be visible all the way down to the metal band.

problem is reliability, Apple wants to have this display to be as reliable as possible to reduce dead zone and touch inconsistencies.

I would just add that for some users (like myself), the #1 consideration on a "mobile device" is the form factor / size / weight.

For me, I want the smallest and lightest iPhone possible, as I use it quite minimally for the essentials.

I'm talking about things like taking pictures, music/podcasts, CarPlay connecting, messaging & calls, quickly doing something on an App, etc. For anything beyond those sorts of things, I use either an iPad or more typically my Mac with a huge screen.

I want the opposite of the "Christopher Nolan IMAX Movie Studio on the go" thing they seem to keep making more of.

You are in the minority, most people prefer bigger screens, this is not my opinion, if i was wrong, every brand will be rushing to the market with smaller phones, the reality is they have abandoned the segment because they don't make enough money from it, i don't think there will be ever another mini, same thing happened with the AIR, A small but vocal minority bought it, however this upcoming updated version might be the last one unless more people buy them.

This is not about right or wrong.

One of Apples greatest achievements is the power and influence they wield over buyers.

The masters of upselling, in order to get all the latest iPhone features the customer must buy a Pro or ProMax iPhone. Large phones are the only choice.

This creates the illusion that hardly anyone wants a small compact iPhone when that's not necessarily the case. Earlier small models like the iPhone mini only offered a minimum feature set and as such did not sell at the same rate as full featured models.

The buyer who wants all the latest features is forced into a large expensive iPhone.

A brilliant strategy by the Cupertino company.
