Big fake physical keyboard. Does Apple write 'Caps' and 'Shift' on their current keyboards Macs? I don't think so.

The picture is of an already available 3rd party case with slide out keyboard.

I assure you it is very real.

No one ever said that pic was even representative of an idea of what the prototype looks like.

iphone keyboard

I will never buy another Apple iPhone if it has a keyboard. I hate phones with keyboards. They make the phone look so unprofessional(as in business phone), like if the iphone had a keyboard that was physical, it would just be weird. I dont know what kind of phone i would have. Probably have my iphone 4 until they make a iPhone without a keyboard, or just the the iphone nano. I would be so disappointed in apple if they had a phone with a physical keyboard. Now a hollow gram keyboard, that would be the *****! Thats more like apple!!

In fact, it even has a caption stating that it is a case! If only people would read.

I'd prefer they add slide out game controls instead of a keyboard. Though I seriously doubt they will add either.

Hell freezes over?
Not going to happen since Jobs was really bashing the fixed keyboards. That is like him suddenly saying that they just love Flash on the iPhone...

happened before.

But times changes, technology advances, and Steve may have a different opinion after many years.

Steve's careful enough to put a time limit to his comments. Like during 2007 slide out keyboards just didnt work well... FF to 2015, Steve could say these KB had advanced so far along it makes sense to use them to create the best user experience.

Steve is about trying to offer a product he thinks offers the best over-all experience at the time with whatever technology is availabe then.

I still remember Steve comparing the G5 with Intel once upon a time, raving how much better G5 was. FF a few years and now Apple's on Intel. :D Which makes sense, because Intel had advanced so far along compared with whatever IBM was offering.

Foreign Languages

One of the most efficient uses of a software keyboard is the ability to address multiple characters and languages at a low cost. Could you imagine producing dozens of different hardware keyboards for this purpose? Not to mention Chinese or Japanese characters. This is a ruse.

Sounds weird. I doubt that these rumors have any truth in them.

Sounds especially like work Apple don't have to do. Apple have invested so much in having top notch accuracy in their touch panels and then based the entire iOS around that, just to go "OK, let's ignore all that" and add complexity, cost, and factors that can break, to their devices? Their customers are even telling them that they want keyboard-free devices via their sales figures. Going keyboard free was one of the distinguishing features for the iPhone.

Not as long as Steve Jobs is CEO, I think... This would be a 180° turn for everything they've worked towards in their designs. And I seriously doubt many other top people at Apple would like this either.

Probably trying to take away from the business customers that tend to stick with a Blackberry due to the keyboard.
The phone looks pretty bulky though.

No way. I wouldn't buy that thing. I doubt Apple would even be considering a physical keyboard. Since the iPhone was the thinnest smart phone when it came out (it still could be), I doubt Apple would add more bulk to the thing.

Wirelessly posted (iPhone 3GS: Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_2_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8C148a Safari/6533.18.5)

Yeah, I'm going to have to say not a chance on a physical keyboard for any iOS device. That would be going backwards with technology.

I wouldn't want a keyboard. But if they did put one on, do you know how many iphones they'd sell? I can think of at least 5 people that have told me that they need a physical keyboard. I've let them use mine, trying to convince them otherwise, but they hate it. From my circle of friends, their would be more of these then iphones without.

What's the problem if Apple released an iPhone with a keyboard and one without? Buy what works for you. Plenty of people swear by keyboards. You guys are acting like Apple just kicked your dog or something.
