Because it wasn't made by Corporate Overload Apple and so it sucks.
Also because the EU ~forced~ Apple to add it to their devices, as if they hadn't tacitly admitted it was going to happen eventually since they added it to iPads in 2018
Or because it is flimsy and not as durable as my lightning. I am on my second usb c cord since getting my 15

Wait until you find out about MacOS with its usb c and ability to download apps from the internet

The horror
There’s a difference in something that already has been using it and changing it from something that has actually been working fine. If I’m not mistaken aren’t the same speeds on lightning and usb?

Once again, I don't get the hate. Apple adopting RCS is not going to hurt anyone already invested in iMessage and iOS.

Why do people insist on being a dog in the manger?

And again you imply that iPhone and android users have had issues communicating. Group chats hasn’t been an issue for like 10 years now with the rise of messenger app.

So your argument is flimsy at best. Are YOU intentionally this dense with pushing this ‘messaging between the two makes the experience suffer’ narrative.
The only change is if you send a message through Apple's Messenges and it goes to an Android phone it'll be sent using the RCS standard instead of SMS. That's it. It's a more modern standard that has more features. Nothing else changes. If limited data is available and it can't send as an iMessage to an iPhone or an RCS message to an Android phone it'll fall back to the archaic SMS which doesn't rely on data to send.

It's simply an improved protocol. That's it. There is absolutely no reason to get yourself all worked up about something you yourself have claimed you'll never use. Talk about first world problems.

That's anecdotal at best, but since we're here I haven't broken a single USB cable, meanwhile my Lightning chords just seem to disintegrate despite the care I handle them with

Ohhhh so you’re literally just a blind conservative who hates anything new even if it’s good.

We can stop here

Dramatic. But since we’re here lightning is better the usb-c.
Maybe it's better, but Lightning is headed to the same place the 20 pin connector went and that's the ash heap of history. It's really pointless to even debate it anymore. I know you're not the person who brought it up, but I just wanted to point out it's a pointless debate at this point. Yeah that's a lot of points.

Haha I am far from a conservative 😂 I’m the living embodiment of what they go against (black, trans, etc etc lol)

I just prefer lightning 🤷🏾‍♀️

You go beyond preferring you actually desire enforcement of the old comfortable things you like.

No usb c, no rcs, no side loading, no new things other people want…

Because you don’t want them. So progressive lol

United States does not use Telegram or WhatsApp like the rest of the world does.

You have iPhones (and other Apple products) with the Messages app. Android, on the other hand, is a free for all. In a perfect world, Messages by Google (formerly Android Messages) would be the only messaging app on the platform for SMS/MMS/RCS. Instead, you have a gazillion apps from Google, manufacturers (Samsung), carriers (Verizon), and others all competing in the same space. And each app come with their own share of compatibility problems.
Yeah that’s my understanding of the situation as well

Honestly I like it better this way because none of my friends have iPhones. If they all used google’s own messaging app I’d be screwed

I want things that better the os. RCS is not something that betters the os. At least nothing of significance.

USB c doesn’t better the Os.

Side loading also really has no benefit to the overall OS. It’s more beneficial for devs to get around paying apple or people wanting to add shoddy/pirated apps.

There’s a list of things I would want apple to focus on.that would greatly benefit the Os and not cater to an Os(android) that has nothing to do with what I purchased.

But I digress 🤷🏾‍♀️

It’s a poor product. Even my
Mothers usb charger is like that. She has a pixel. My friends galaxy ultra charger fits the same

Meanwhile I’m on the same lightning cable from my 6 over 10 years ago.

So you have got a ten year old lightning cable but you tore a usb c cable to pieces in a few months!

Exactly. And this cord is wires showing and all. I actually have newer ones around my house (I still use my 12 for work stuff). I keep this charger since it is holding on for dear life and it’s my car charger lol.

Got to hold it a certain way.

I didn’t tear the usb. The first one the part that goes into the phone somehow broke and I brought another from the store (genuine) and it’s frayed already.

Rcs betters the os by providing a superior communication standard to sms. This benefits all iPhone users

Side loading benefits anyone who intends to use it and harms nobody who doesn’t want to

USB c obviates the need for multiple cable types and brings the iPhone in line with every other Apple product

You simply do not understand what is happening

It feel it's more that there's always two sides to every coin, and everyone here shouting "Apple needs to do this" very often doesn't acknowledge the drawbacks or tradeoffs involved. Let's just admit that everyone here is just looking out for their own personal interests and really don't care two hoots about the impact to the rest because it's ultimately not their mess to clean up.

In a subsequent post, you mention that sideloading doesn't harm anyone who doesn't wish to sideload, yet I have numerous cited examples of how people in my country have been tricked into installing malware onto their android phones (often from Facebook ads) which then went on to steal their banking information and siphon their life savings.

I don't know how easy it is to sideload on android, but the people in those articles do not sound like the tech-savvy sort, and it came to the point where the police even put out an advisory specifically calling out android phones, while my banks have updated their apps to not work if they detect the presence of side loaded apps on one's android device.

One man's freedom is another's loss of safety and security (ie: the very reason why they purchased an iPhone in the first place). "You don't have to use it if you don't like it" feels like a dismissive motherhood statement seeking to sweep genuine concerns under the rug, because this is not in all in line with the reality I am seeing on the ground. Those aforementioned people certainly did not choose to be scammed, or does it seem like they understand the intricacies of sideloading, and that didn't stop criminals from specifically targeting and seeking them out. It also seemed like the android users didn't have to do anything extra to get an app from outside the App Store onto their devices.

So in this scenario, it would probably have been more accurate if you had said "Side loading benefits anyone who intends to use it, and well, too bad for the rest if they ever fall victim to a scam. Suckers."

I am indifferent to RCS because it's all WhatsApp (and a bit of telegram) here in my country, and the only time I receive SMS are 2FA codes, bank notifications and ads, so telling me that I am capable of receiving better quality SMS just means better quality spam?

And speaking of spam...

As for usb-c on the iPhone, well, again, it's something I am indifferent to, since I charge mainly via magsafe. I guess it's cool if and when I ever have to share an adaptor or accessory with my iPad; I just haven't come across the need to yet.

Yay for "progress" that may not give me more of what I want, but might instead saddle me with more issues to contend with.

Why is this stupid? RCS is simply the modern standard to SMS/MMS. It will make communication through text message better for everyone involved. Everyone benefits from this improvement. Instead of thinking which corporation wins or loses I prefer to think of how customers benefit. Adopting RCS is pro-customer and both sides will benefit with much improved texting between both platforms.
How does it make it better for the iMessage user ? What do we benefit ?

I have been on Google's Jibe RCS server for 2 years and have NEVER received an ad through RCS messages

Google RSC user here on a Pixel 7. Never once had an ad show up in Google Messages. In fact it activity blocks spam texts. Google and Apple do care about privacy and security when it comes to communication between people. Less so when it comes to search, browsing and app stores.

I think you may have misunderstood. Google's RCS was always envisioned to improve B2C business messaging, not it's sole purpose, but one of its uses. Right from their website "Credit card fraud alerts, flight status updates, and package delivery notifications are common examples of business-to-consumer SMS." Although it's interesting to note the large issue RCS had in India where businesses, including banks and lending firms, abused RCS and spammed users so badly Google had to turn it off. That's a good sign that Google is being responsible (and more likely following the law), but a bad sign that it might be abused, although any system can be abused. My main point was that Google isn't pushing RCS because of some concern over kids getting bullied over green bubbles, and vice versa Apple isn't agreeing to it for that either. Although it makes for great PR and you can bet both of them will somewhere along the line toot their own horns.

Honestly what causes kids to ostracize green bubbles ain't going to go away with changing bubble colors, which I highly doubt Apple would do anyway. Fixing group chats and videos/pictures finally being sent in a modern resolution will be a great step, but non-iMessage users will still be ostracized because they can't tap back, or don't have access to stickers, or typing indicators, or whatever iMessage feature possibly doesn't make it into RCS.
