I am on and off with iPhone and Pixel. I am currently carrying iPhone 13 Pro and Google Pixel 7 right now. Pervious half year was Pixel exclusively.

I like this news m.
My Pixel 6a has been in the poor category, sadly, in contrast to the OnePlus 8T it replaced. Google's Android 14 update decided my data on both accounts on the Pixel 6a were corrupt and required me to wipe my data. If they had asked me to update to Android 14, I would have waited.

In any case, I want phones to bring us together, not tear us apart. At this rate, it will take another 50 years for people just to treat it all as equipment, especially since we still have the Mac vs. Windows arguments.

Repeat after me.

This makes messaging people who have Android devices better for iPhone users as you get all the same imessage features when texting people on android. You no longer have to send low quality videos and pictures when you text android users, you can now properly react to messages with android users without getting that stupid "x liked your text" messages. And potential for E2E encryption if they implement Google RCS extension.

Its a good thing.
no, it's actually stupid, terrible thing.

we have plenty of options for sharing pictures/videos with high quality.

"x liked your text" is a Google thing. what's next? Google creating native RCS apps for their RCS implementation and iMessage people are bombarded with links out to a browser to interact with the RCS apps so Apple is forced to adopt it?

this is dumb

Tim‘s business model - lock competition out, lock users in - comes tumbling down 😂😅😅😅. The fear before DMCA is bigger than the fear of what will happen, when there is no longer a barrier between Apple and Android devices.

And the story continues, since Apple will have to open iOS for sideloading next year. At least if it wants to sell devices in the EU without paying heavy fines*.

*) You can hear the Apple stormtroopers chanting in the background that Apple should withdraw from the EU.

Whats that got to do with complexity? Isn't the fact that google can create and burn through 6 different messaging platform in 10 years mean it not complex to create?
if it's not working to the point where they have to try again every few years, it's not as simple as Google thinks it is.

I don’t get it. Currently if I send or receive photos or videos using iMessage the quality is excellent. However, if I receive a photo or video from an android user the quality isn’t as good. WhatsApp on the other hand is a disgrace, I know they have implemented the option to send HD but this isn’t activated be default. Normal photos and videos sent using WhatsApp are terrible at best.

You really don't understand this huh? Anything against all mighty Apple = bad in your mind?

Hell has frozen over. I had a feeling Apple would end up doing this, though.

Interesting that they specified the GSMA version of RCS, though. How does it differ from Google’s implementation?

RCS is so stupid. No thanks.

Get ready for "oh you're a green bubble? are you non-RCS green bubble or RCS green bubble?"

Or is it a new color? Brown bubble? Can you video chat with brown bubble people? Who knows. Imagine teaching your mom this.
RCS is not about the color of bubbles. Bubble color is purely Apple issue.

Android interopterbility arguments aside, my concern is: this standard was formulated by telecom industy, any concerns about how they will put users through the wringer down the line? Back to the days of 5 cents per "rich texts"?

many MNOs are charging for RCS the same way az they do for regular SMS/MMS

Now I can finally stop seeing those stupid commercials from Google about Apple “Getting the message”. Android users probably celebrating but I don’t think it really changes much for iPhone users? If you own an iPhone and most of the people you care about own one, would you even need to care about RCS?
especially if they remove green and blue bubbles.

apparently iOS is getting a major UI overhaul next year so I can see it going away and move to it will "just work" like Apple likes to do their thing.

No this is to try & stop the European Union coming after iMessage.
So if Apple adopts RCS profile it then looks like they are trying to remove the gatekeeper argument about iMessage.
That is likely another positive aspect of taking this step, but Apple have chosen not to do this for so long, and the ball is definitely in their court – they could just have easily fought the European Union on this, in a protracted battle.

I think Apple likely had a longterm position that they would eventually relent on iMessage – as and when the benefit to them had diminished sufficiently – and this is what we're seeing now.

Sadly, they prefer the division. They like that they can get angry at their android friends for ruining the txt msg experience. They really believe it's android's fault. Insane.
