Apple today updated its website to announce that it will share its earnings results for the second fiscal quarter (first calendar quarter) of 2020 on Thursday, April 30.

appleearnings2020.jpg

Apple's second quarter earnings results will give us a better picture of how product sales have fallen due to the pandemic that has spread across the world. Apple's stores outside of China have been closed since March 14, and Apple's stores in China were closed for several weeks in February.

In February, Apple announced that it would not meet its revenue goals for the quarter due to the outbreak. At the time, Apple cited store closures in China and manufacturing issues, but the problem has grown significantly worse since then. Apple originally expected to see revenue of $63 to $67 billion in the March quarter, but that number is likely to be much lower.

Apple's quarterly earnings statement will be released at 1:30 p.m. Pacific/4:30 p.m. Eastern, with a conference call to discuss the report taking place at 2:00 p.m. Pacific/5:00 p.m. Eastern. MacRumors will provide coverage of both the earnings release and conference call on April 30.

It'll give them a few days to report back on initial iPhone demand if the 9/SE2/SE 4.7 is on sale for April 22. Interesting that they announce on a Thursday, perhaps new products the following Tuesday?

This one will have a lot of analysts on the line. A doozy of a phone chat to say the least.

I can’t actually remember the last time it was on a Thursday. But that might just be my old brain.

First questions will inevitably centre on impact of world events on the bottom line and new products.

But yes, Thursday is an unusual day. Usually if products were coming that event would be on a Monday and the Apple store would refresh on the Tuesday.

It's going to be bad, but we'll see how bad.

It will be every publicly held company’s most important earnings announcement in the past 10-15 years, not just Apple’s.

Forward guidance will be the stock market’s focus. Everyone knows companies missed this past quarter.
They likely won't even give guidance, like many companies. Too uncertain to even bother.

Hopefully, they won't waste a precious slot asking about 5g iPhones like last year.

Awhile back I was able to buy some shares for around $225. That price lasted about 15 minutes and if you blinked you missed it. If it gets like that again I am buying some more before the report. I won't be concerned if it goes under $200 after that and would take a pyramid buying approach each leg down. Apple has held it's value relatively well. If it stays around or above $250 I will just be patient.

That is odd.

Maybe they are planning on a product announcement for Tuesday 28 April? No live media event, but perhaps some sort of launch. Of course, I am wildly speculating.

I expect it to go something like this.

INVESTOR

Is Apple going to survive? How much did Apple make?

TIM COOK

Five.

INVESTOR

Five billion? Five Trillion?

TIM COOK

Four, Three, Two, One...

The numbers for the last quarter will not look good, no question. The forward outlook will be what matters.

INVESTOR

What do Apple's future earnings look like?

TIM COOK

You ask the wrong question.

INVESTOR

what is the right question?

TIM COOK

Does any company have future earnings?

Probably the most-important Earnings Call for AAPL the past 10-15 years !

Isn’t it wild? Year after year since 2007 Apple just continued to exceed expectations over and over again. The stock just reached it’s highest point. We.’the on the verge of a 5G iPhone among many other things.

And then boom... coronavirus throws a wrench in it all. Everything going forward is going to be VERY interesting.

Gotta be ready for it to go to $150 or worse. If that happens, be greedy...nothing matters if Apple is screwed anyway, so it will eventually go back to normal. If not, money won't matter anyway.

Investors will be heavily divided as will analysts: Buy/Sell/Hold ... yet the dividends keep coming in. I have a feeling that although sales 'may' be down vs last year for the same qtr ... brand patronage will be heavily looked at and stated during the Q&A sessions.

Agreed, but it may not be all doom and gloom as many may think. Samsung seems to have beat analysts estimates

'Samsung has very little exposure to smartphone manufacturing in China' ... so for Apple it'll have a sting. Apple's key takeaways will be future guidance, diversification of the supply chain, globally, no longer just focusing in China, and products and services in the pipeline and brand patronage from existing users. Of course Mr Fallon and Gaga's lil announcement
