Right. So how do they message people for free then?

Google voice. Touch. Kik. Whatsapp. You have lots of cross platform free messaging options. That's only some. There are more. imessage locks you into ios devices only for free messaging. These others do not.

The bulk of everyone I know uses Touch.

Gotcha. Now that we have completely de-railed this thread, let's try and get it back on the main topic!

All the time, in sync

I use it all the time. It is really amazing to have the messages synced between the iPhone, the iPad and the MacBook Pro. I thought the sync feature wouldn't be interesting, but it works wonderfully and I just love it.

It is great to have it on the iPad, let me tell you that.

All the time. My daughter disabled it on her iPhone, though, because we share iTunes account and she was annoyed receiving group iMessages whenever I use it. I said get your own account and pay for your own apps and it won't be a problem...

I think you can use one account for your iTunes and select another one for iMessages.

I use it all the time. One great use I have found is when I fly. If I'm on a plane with in-flight internet, I can iMessage while flying. Works great as my whole family and the majority of my coworkers use iPhones.

Does anyone use the iPad iMessage app to message an iPad, iPhone or iPod Touch owner? I think I may have used it once or twice, but if I send text messages, I use my iPhone cell service. Is there really a demand for that?
All the time, it is brilliant for me, my mum, my girlfriend, my two best mates, and my sister all use iMessage so I use it more than normal texts. I even use it on my mac.
