Apple to backport patches to iOS 18

So quotation- “Tomorrow we are enabling the availability of an iOS 18 update for more devices so users with auto-update enabled can automatically receive important security protections,” an Apple spokesperson wrote in a statement to WIRED. “We encourage all users with supported devices to update to iOS 26 to receive our most advanced protections.”

I will believe Apple when they release anything to upgrade iOS 18.7.2 for Vintage 11Pro.

edit; they made me laugh as they recommend setting auto update - so device will currently more likely auto update to Liquid Ass iOS 26

Is age verification the real reason for the update?

Apple were adamant about only releasing iOS 18 updates to iPhone X series up till now.
 
From the article, "Users of iOS 18 who have auto-update turned on will automatically receive the version of iOS 18 that’s patched against DarkSword, while those who don’t have auto-update enabled will have the option to update to either the latest, patched version of iOS 18 or to iOS 26."
So, we just have to wait then?

Don’t turn autoupdate until the Update is officially rolled out for other devices… so it’s told there in Macrumors by someone I guess. Otherwise Apple might do literally auto update to 26.4 or fool your finger before sleep to press on update button and you will have sad welcome on iOS 26.4 (they Rick rolled a few already)

Oh absolutely. No way I am touching that auto update!
One of my family member got caught by the auto update from 26.3 to 26.4 while on vacation out of the country.
Apple is really ridiculous with this rubbish now.

Showing here too. But it's a sign of where we are that I'm going to wait to install it in case Apple have snuck in some sneakiness. That's basically a sign that I don't trust Apple any more, and that makes me sad.

Having the proverbial carrot dangling in front of you is SOO frustrating. <shakes fist at Apple>

Per ipsw.me, 18.7.7 is signed for a few of the X-series devices (assuming it's the last release for them).

C'mon Apple, open up signing for iPhone 12 and later....... let the people run what works for them on their devices!!

Okay, so I installed 18.7.7 on a 13 mini and Apple didn't do anything underhand. Thank you, Apple. You did the right thing – eventually – and I hope you can see that this is the way forward. We don't want to hate you. We are on the same side.

In addition, after the update, I was allowed to re-enable the iOS18 Developer Beta, and so nix the iOS26 nag.
