May not be a deductible if AppleCare+ covers two repairs for $79 each. What happens after the second accident? Does this mean AppleCare+ isn't worth it unless you break your screen twice. This is kind of confusing...

ha. yeah. i don't know.. i shouldn't of said anything in the first place

AC+ is now being used for full phone replacements and not modular repairs. Meaning you can break your screen as many times as you want within 2 years and it will always be $79.

AC+ incidents count ONLY IF the phone in entirely replaced (i.e. the machine that attaches the new screen fails to attach it - they have to offer you a new phone).

So does this cost more now for only part replacment ?

What about superficial damage they cant replace like metal dents etc.

well mine 16gb 5 iPhone is in repair for 2 months

I have no idea where Orange Luxembourg sent it, but I had only broken power button. repair claim started 17. September.

phew i just sent in my iPhone 5 a few weeks ago bc the power button stopped working but i got a brand new phone, manufactured 2 weeks earlier. it was always the main reason for me hoping something breaks under warranty so i could get it replaced by a new one with a fresh new battery ;)

If they really wanted to lower repair costs, they'd slap Jony round the head and remind him that good design includes repairability of components that wear out or break, like batteries, physical buttons and glass screens.

"Good design is long-lasting" said Herr Rams.

To me Apple is losing its greatest edge over competitors - easy, no question asked replacement if anything goes wrong for your phone. I once had an iPhone 5 with a stuck power button, and I got a replacement phone in a few minutes, with a brand new casing and battery as a bonus. This is one of the biggest factors for me to stay with Apple for most of my electronic purchases. Tim Cook seems to concern more with the money part, as shown in one greatest example: his hiring of John Brewett, who solely aimed at cutting costs for Apple Stores and of course it failed. I truly miss the Steve Jobs era.

Destroying the house that Ron Johnson built.

does this mean they are replacing the rear camera on the iPhone 5? i was just in the store last week b/c i started to get those annoying shadow spots when taking a picture with a light colored background (problem is all over the apple community forums). i am out of warranty. they said they can't replace the rear camera, but this article says they can for the 5S and the 5C.

do only select stores replace the rear camera for the 5?

Sorry if these are stupid questions, but if I have ac+ and crack my screen:

1) does this count towards my two repairs?

2) since I have ac+ and still have to pay $79 for the screen replacement, that brings the total to $179 as opposed to $150,correct?

3) if I do crack my screen can I get a replacement device to get rid of the dents etc from a drop under ac+? Instead of just a new screen?

Thanks.

Wow, that's the kind of complex questions I'm used to reading on boards for any other company, I always thought highly of Apple for applying the simple old rules.

Apple is really starting to shape up to act a lot more like the other folks and giving away some (not all granted) of the key Apple advantages.

If my display were broken and under apple care. And it had some marks elsewhere. I would put it under water so I can get full replacement so it Would be mint to resell instead of using one of two repairs for $79.

I feel like people are so entitled these days. One part of your phone doesn't work so you want a whole new one? I suppose you walk into a dealership with a flat tire and ask for a whole new car too eh?
Well, it's unfortunate because iPhones are precision manufactured devices with very tight tolerances--some of the tightest in the industry. And they weren't designed with replaceability/maintenance in mind.

I've seen a few phones that've had replacement screens (admittedly not all iPhones), and none of the (admittedly few) phones I've seen went back together quite perfectly afterwards.

Some teenager in the back room ripping your phone apart isn't going to put it back together as well as the factory that made it, even if s/he is employed by Apple.

That's hardly a "Steve Jobs" era issue. They did individual part repairs during Steve's tenure. They replaced displays on 3G and 3GS.

We're used to that quality of service. You might be right that we expect too much-emphasis on might-but Apple used to provide that. Failure to do so might make it seem more like the competitors to some people. That's the point.

And, frankly, when Apple was offering this level of service, they were doing quite fine!

Good luck with that! If there's a defect, they have to repair or replace it free of charge under consumer law in Australia, for at least two years for an iPhone.

That may explain why the 5S 64gb, for example, costs $200 dollars more in Oz, given the current exchange rate. There's no free lunch, my friend.

My concern is how well an applestore employee will be able to replace some of these components and what the quality control be like. If you get your iPhone back with tool marks -- or there's a backup and it takes three hours to get it fixed I can't imagine this will be a popular change.

Apple may have just eliminated an edge they had over competitors but we'll see.

My home button started going bad a few days ago on my 5S. The phone was replaced on site at my local Apple store.

My thoughts exactly!
I had a friend that had his iPhone 5 display replaced this summer and he got it back with tool marks and scratches, and a bunch of dust and crap under the screen!
He was NOT happy at all and raised hell and made them replace the whole phone.
I was there,it was an awful repair job.And it makes you wonder how well they are trained, the quality control etc.

The most common thing to break on a phone is the display. so its actually cheaper to just pay out of pocket replacement of $150, instead of apple care plus at $99 plus $79 for replacement! wtf?

I have AC+ and brought my phone in because I had a dodgy sleep/wake button and 15 minutes later I walked out of the store with a new phone. :)

I dont think you understand how this works. That would use one of your $79 replacements for accidental damage. Dunking your phone in water is not a warranty issue.

Lots of people seemed to be confused by the hybrid nature of AC+ which does two separate things. 1) It extends the warranty 2) it acts as insurance. 1) is unlimited replacements in the timeframe and 2) is limited to two replacements with a deductible per incident.

I don't get why there is a $29 charge to fix a defect...that makes zero sense. If there is a known manufacturer defect that is no fault to the customer, why make the customer pay? Ridiculous.

In general, this repair service makes sense, but it sounds less convenient then a quick phone swap that takes a total of 3 minutes for the customer.
