Lack of headphone jack feels like the wrong analogy. A better analogy, in my mind, is, they make MacBooks in 13 and 15 inches, iMacs in 24 and 27 inches, iPhones in two sizes, the Apple Watch in two sizes, and the iPad is now in 3 sizes. But the AirPod is only one size. Why?

That's stupid. A screen size is a preference. Some want it smaller some bigger. You don't have a choice on your ears. It's one size. Deal with it or buy something else.

Once again, did you even read what I said?!
I wasn't complaining about the replacement cost, that is perfectly fine considering the price. My probalem was with the original price.
Having said that, the replacement cost could go down since the case, other AirPod, and lightning cable are not included but cost extra to replace.

$69 x 2 is $138. So it IS a discount.

But how about this - don't lose them? If I lose my Nintendo 3DS is Nintendo going to sell me a replacement at less than half the MSRP? No.

Yes, I read it, and I don't agree with you. $159 is a perfectly reasonable price for headphones like this. If you're looking for bargain basement pricing, these obviously aren't for you, but they are perfectly in line, price-wise, with similar headphones (ie: Beats, Bragi, etc). Sorry Apple didn't meet your pricing expectations, but it's not like they've ever been the cheap guy on the block.

Or how about you stop complaining and appreciate the fact that Apple even offers a replacement option? How many other headphone manufacturers do the same? Or anything else you buy in pairs or sets for that matter? In most cases, when you lose part of a set, whatever that is, you have to buy a new set.

Good lord, people will complain about ANYTHING these days.

True enough. But look at it from the other way, Apple is making a product that only fits some people, with no way of adjusting it for people who have the wrong size/shape ears. All other earbuds I know of come with different sized tips to help people find a right fit. With AirPods, if they don't fit your ears, you are plain out of luck, you have to go buy something else. So by not including a way to adjust the fit of the AirPods, Apple is limiting their market size.

Do you complain about clothing manufacturers that don't cut clothes for your body type? Or do you do recognize that a business can't provide all things to all people and try on another brand? Sorry they don't fit your ears, but they fit plenty of other people's ears. I appreciate your disappointment, but this is the product Apple designed. If it doesn't work for you, there are plenty of other options out there. AirPods aren't the only wireless headphone. I'd offer Apple some feedback on the fit and perhaps if enough people suggest an adjustable fit, they'll make those changes in a future update.

I can imagine that future Airpods will be moldable to fit everyone's ear.

Already, I've seen and heard of spray on clothes & are reusable afterwards.

Addressing the fit issue is a step towards market domination in the earphone space. I believe currently that exact fits are made for hearing aids at a premium price.

Getting the W1 chip experience before others is a step in the right direction. The function.

Adjusting to individual preferences will evolve. The form.

Selling in significant quantities will prove the acceptance. The ecology.

Of all the dumb stuff Cook has done removing the headphone jack is second only to firing Scott Forstall.

Edited as the original post was offensive to a community member. My apologies.

This is offensive.

I expect more from an intelligent person.

If the original post is edited to read fired would that be ok?

It was not my intent to offend anyone. Removing the headphone jack seems so stupid. Why is iPhone requiring everyone to use wireless or handheld? Asking because I don't know.

Thanks

I realize emotions run high and words are said that are not meant to be literal.

And we move on.

Your point and emotions are noticed by me.

I don't have a good answer to your question.

Yes, the price is in line with other brands but that is not a mass market price. Wireless headphones on the whole are overpriced because they can be - most of these companies have the power of a brand behind them. I never expected them to be cheap, and I have already ordered them so your recommendation is a bit too late.

You didn't read my post or maybe you didn't understand it, but it's just common sense when you think about it:
AirPods = $159 (includes case + cable)

Replacement AirPod = $69
Replacement AirPod = $69
Replacement AirPod Case = $69
Replacement Lighting Cable = $19
Total = $226

So it really ISN'T a discount.

Agreed, but if he were to shoot for the stars as Apple CEO, the commenterati would be asking why he couldn't manage to deliver an update to the Mac Pro in a reasonable time period. "Elon has to go!" would be the battle cry.

This. People have no issues with Elon Musk sending people to Mars, but complain about Apple investing in self-driving cars?

When your business is to go to the stars (Spacex), you build rockets. When your business is electric cars and renewable electric energy (Tesla), you build electric cars, batteries, solar panels, and solar roofs.

Point being, I think Elon would be smart enough to know what Apple's business is.

Got it. You're just complaining because it's your nature. Understood.

Phones, smart watches, tablets, computers, software, entertainment media, accessories, home and life automation, and more, perhaps designed to complement his other product lines, and definitely not beholden to aging standards.

I think you'll find my original posts on this thread weren't complaining. Like I said, I own AirPods and compared to other offerings, they are great for their price. Wireless headphones shouldn't be so much, but they are and in my opinion AirPods are one of the few that offer great value.

My point was that it won't help wireless take off. If they want that to happen, it would be a good idea to introduce a cheaper option (like Beats X, but actually "affordable") and include them with the iPhone. Maybe that will be a long way down the line but I could see it happening for the special edition model next year.

Now, an event that happens all the time if you take the subway (people bumping into you), or run outside can cost you $69. LOL. Biggest joke of a product Apple has come out in a long time.

But oh wait I know what people will tell me "don't bump into people" or "move to Montana" or "just don't seek human contact"

I´m quite surprised that Apple did not release an "String" for "active" users..
Something like this but in various colors and for a fantastic price, like let´s say $29,99..

Actually, I would take Airpods in black.

Better yet, I would accept skin toned. Slightly tanned.

Even better, invicible would be ideal. Only I would know if wearing them.

Ultimately, imbedded would be where I want to be.

Sign me up.

Well, you can buy model paint of the color you want (in those small glass jars) for pretty cheap, sand it with fine grit to make sure it stick, put a coat or two, then put a few thin layers of finishing gloss/satin on top) and voila you got whatever color you want.

If you do it well, it will last. Make sure to put the finishing on or the sweat/chemicals will attack the finish and look like crap after a while (though you could then sand it down and start over ;-). Yeah, I'm a DIY person.

There are already a bunch of strings and other AirPod attachments being sold on Amazon. The problem with any of them is that you have to take them off to charge the AirPods. Taking these attachments on and off each time you charge the AirPods, or just want to store them in the case, is going to get old pretty fast.

I've have the Airpods for 2 months and the charging case fell out of my coat pocket while running to catch the bus to work.

No, it was not anywhere to be found when I returned to the bus stop.

$70 after 2 months... I've had my jaybird bt earbuds for years without worrying about losing them.

I guess I have payed my stupid tax for buying the Airpods. I think I'll stick with the jaybirds or go the other direction and buy Bose qc35's for my commute and working in the office.

Can I sell my airpods without the case? I'm wondering of someone who lost one of their airpods could use mine with their case.

I tried the string and also ear hook skins to help the Airpods stay in. Like you said, they don't work with the charging case and taking them off/on is not an easy task. I ended up leaving them off and regretting my purchase.

Im not sure I understand why you'd get rid of the AirPods, rather than reinvest in them, unless you don't like them. You now know the potential problem, and can take steps to prevent it in the future.

That said, I'm sure you could easily sell them on eBay, but not likely for even what Apple sells them for, and then there's shipping somebody has to eat, and eBay fees for you. You won't get back what you initially invested in them, and will definitely lose money on the whole thing -- which I guess is fine if you didn't like them anyway.

I do wonder, if you, or anyone was using them with Find My AirPods, whether they will simply pair with a new case, or will run into the same problem as iPhones which haven't been signed out of it. Of course deleting the device remotely from your Apple Account solves that. So shouldn't be an issue.

Having a bill of sale to include would probably help, unless you are already a high ranking seller on eBay. I hate to say it, but a pair of AirPods without a case sounds suspicious.

Apple's business is providing an integrated experience that improves people's lives, not some god damn tech gyzmo.
Considering how transport is a huge part of a person's live that's been done basically the same way for 100 years, it's pretty ripe for disruptiion in 20 different ways.

In fact, self driving is probably a much harder problem to crack than space exploration.

Most of the tech in that area ARE NOT NEW BTW; more of an optimization problem...

The case is not the main problem with the AirPods, that was just the incident where I finally lost something. No, for the main problem...

I live in Seattle where it rains a lot, so I'm taking my raincoat hood on and off several times a day. Probably around 10-12 times. Each time I do that, there's a chance that I'll knock AirPods out of my ears if I was using them. Its happened several times in the past but I was lucky that the airpods fell into my clothing each time. I was able to retrieve it after I arrived at my destination and got my jacket off.

Then while using them at work , I take them on/off fairly often as well for meetings, speaking with colleagues, and speaking with customers. That's a pain as there isn't a cord between them where I can lay them across the back of my neck like you can do with LG Tones or full-fledged headphones. That's another problem with them.

Are there situations where they are not problematic? Sure. Just not for the way I use them. And for me, that is all that matters.
