If it supports App store I will be in.definitely.
I think that's a feature it really needs and lacks.
I don't own an Apple TV but with likes of Roku and Amazon,Air Play is the ONLY attractive feature on current Apple TV.

There is no need for storage for tv shows and movies because everything is streamed. Storage would be necessary for games.

I am amazed that people still keep saying this sort of thing. Remember that not everyone has really fast Internet access. It may be shared (hotels / apartments / college halls) or they may be in a country with a less developed digital infrastructure, or stuck out in the middle of nowhere. There is a massive market out there for devices that take this obvious fact into account. Sometimes my Internet service can stream fine. At peak times it can't. It would be very useful for me to download a few things I want to watch at peak times. It isn't rocket science!

There are a lot of people that have moved away from AppleTV to other media boxes. Here's hoping the new model is up to task.

There are so many things this little box can do (Look at the Jailbroken Versions) I'm hoping Apple take some of it onboard.

It's at least a year late. But this will sell more than the apple watch, if it plays your iPhone games plus it's own ones...

At £59, I'll take the Apple TV 3, and I'll leave you lot to fuss pedantically over the "better" upcoming model. It's a box which you watch TV on; you select your show, and... well, you watch it. You should be more interested in WHAT YOU ARE WATCHING, than the thing that serves it to you - you shouldn't ever have to think about that. I don't think about my windows when I am looking out of them at the sunset...

There's not THAT much that can be "better", which is worth the extra ££ and waiting for.

Given the recent trend of iTunes Radio and Apple Pay, I don't hold out a lot of hope for any new aTV to be completely useful outside the US. I'm also guessing that any TV streaming service will be relatively costly.

Apps and an appstore would be a nice-to-have at least, if they do that, I'll probably upgrade fairly soon.

I hope between this and the other offerings on Apple TV, I'll be able to get rid of Directv.

The sad thing is - I don't see how this has been overlooked given that the UI already has a keyboard for entering iTunes username and password.

That's part of what makes it even more bizarre!
Apple TV has been the red headed step-child of Apple products.
Do it right, or leave the marketplace to those who will...

What i Don't understand is why lower the price of the current version which will make more people buy it ,then release a new version a few months later. Wouldn't apple be concerned that more people buying the 3rd version will cut into sales of a new version released so soon after the price drop? thats why i am a bit skeptical of this news

did Eddy cue really say "sucks" ??

I wonder what else Siri would be used for.... This would basically make it an Xbox Kinect.. (lets all sit round and talk to out tv sets), with extra hardware.

*your all a bunch of fruit-loops*

Obviously, you want your TV do do more than just be a TV, or you wouldn't want to plug in a set top box. But you only want it to do a certain amount more, and you've reached your personal limit.

Other people will likely see the Apple TV 4 as something that enhances their TV watching experience in even more ways than the Apple TV 3 does for you.

I could see apps appearing and maybe games, but then why do they need a new Apple TV for that only ? Just do a software upate what we have now...

Apple's already adding extra channels. No Apple 3 had Bluetooth until a software update added this... So, its do-able. Apple just wants to smack a few other features together users will like, and a new chip, and it will be enough to sell an better Apple TV, when apps and games alone could easily do fine on the current one.

Buzzfeed? Really? I imagine there are likely 20 pictures to go along with the rumor?

Anyway, if it is true, I'm suspecting we'll see some news on the iPod touch front, and the expected bump in hardware needed to run iOS9. The touch also has an A5, so either it goes the way of the dodo, or a new version in the works.

I guess I don't really think there will be many desiring to move completely off traditional cable and move to IP only technology. Certainly I can't see you saving money. I guarantee cable/phone companies will make up traditional subscription losses on extra bandwidth, plus you'll pay significantly for your streaming package as well. Playstation Vue is running $50 to $80 a month, so do the math. I'm sure Apple would cost close to the same.

One thing this Buzzfeed guy said is the price saying starting at $69 implies something else. No it doesn't all that means is starts at 69 and then you add tax to get final price

Too late.

Too late for what? I don't see many alternatives

What party? There isn't anything out on the market that is creating a party. The TV boxes and smart TVs are a mess and really don't do much but make people think they have something.

Hopefully Apple will cracked the TV problem.

correct. There's no party

It's been worth buying. I've had one for years, and it works very well. You don't need to be so cynical.

Agree. It's not perfect but it works quite well for me.

AppleTV is a standalone device. No computer required. You can access music and photos and such on your computer, but that just a feature.

Assuming you have decent internet, that is, and your primary use is streaming from one the of additional channels ( or direct from the iTMS ), otherwise it's of minimal use as a standalone device. All of my ATV2's stream tv shows / movies from iTunes running on a Mac Mini.

I'm hoping that with the update, it'll stop needing to phone home when I play a non-iTMS movie ( regular outages brought to you, thanks to the wonderful internet service provided by Virgin Media ), but I doubt it....

I want this to be true but is Buzzfeed a reliable news-site? The site is constantly on the side of social justice warriors, has been caught basing stories on unreliable sources and has shown questionable taste in some of their articles, like posting cat videos with soundtracks taken from ISIS propaganda.

In the article about the new Apple TV, Buzzfeed is once again relying on anonymous sources (which may or may not turn up to be an anonymous source like in the Michael Moore/Emad Burnat saga; see link above) and there is nothing in the article that could not have been guessed by anyone familiar with the latest price drop and the age of the current Apple TV. Of course Apple will update the Apple TV after three years and a recent price drop, sold as "Starting from $69" on the Apple Store. Of course the SDK will be introduced at the WWDC; the conference is for developers after all and they are the people who will use the SDK to build apps. Of course the new Apple TV will have new hardware and run apps; if Apps were not part of the refresh, then why bother with a refresh at all, since the current model plays all the Apple Store content?

Point being, Buzzfeed may have given credence to this rumour but the tech press may be reporting it as news because it is what people want to hear instead of being something that has been reported by anyone reliable and credible.

You either don't have an Apple TV, or don't know how to use it.

Bizarrely, for a Bluetooth enabled device you could always pair a keyboard for tect entry, or use the keyboard on the remote app. People complaining about one of the few things that Apple has nailed with this device.

We have one in the bedroom, kitchen and living room - 90% of all our viewing is via the Apple TV.

I'm planning on getting the current Apple TV just cause of the price and Game of Thrones.

I'm hoping for the next version will be a fall on HTPC...live tv, music, video, games, apps et.

Nice would be 4k, tri-band tuner, CI+ slot and hdmi-in so any existing video source can be streamed via AirPlay.

Than all it needs is a beautiful, 85", 3mm thick, aluminium unibody, 4K "AirPlay-screen" and we can truly call it :apple: TV.
