The new Apple TV will feature Apple's latest A8 system-on-a-chip and a "dramatic increase" in internal storage, well beyond the 8GB included in the current third-generation set-top box.

I didn't realize that the device even had internal storage. RAM yes, but storage? I guess caching some of the content, plus storage of the operating system, are both legitimate reasons for there being some storage space (as opposed to temporary memory).

An A8 can definitely drive 4K content (or 720/1080 with scaling) to HDMI 2.0, but scaling and frame rate conversion, the processing load is just a piece of cake.
Fixed that for you, both are verified by me.

The iPhone 6 (A8) plays everything I can throw at it, even the most demanding H.264 settings, just fine.

and 60fps for 1080p
Also verified, works just fine on the A8. This even works on my 5s (A7). It's also in Apple's specs, so easy peasy.

My UI improvement request is far more modest - I just hope that TV shows can be listed with subfolders for each season - that would be GREAT.

And something similar for movies in a series - example - a Harry Potter folder in movies, with each "episode" in the series inside that folder...

These would go a LONG way to "unclutter" the interface, at least for me..

I agree. I own 560 movies in iTunes, including all 23 James Bond films (which I bought on sale for $99). Being able to put, for example, all 23 James Bond films into a folder would be convenient.

And like I said earlier - SEARCH! (without having to use another device). This "infinite" scrolling a-z needs to end.

My $0.02

It was that way in the first generation of :apple:TV and our own movies were in the "movies" tab and our our TV shows were in the "TV Shows" tab, etc. Then, Apple decided to "improve" it.

If Apple can deliver ESPN without Comcast, Verizon, ... (etc.), it will be a massive hit. But, I doubt if it will happen. The cable companies grip is too strong.

And even if Apple can do it anyway, those cable companies also fully control the broadband connection on which any "new model" completely depends.

That's the main thing I want. It could run the games already on the App Store and would be awesome. They need to put flash memory akin to what they offer on the iPads where you could get 64 or 128 if you want. I'd buy one in a heartbeat.

I don't think so. :apple:TV is a one-app-at-a-time device. It has unlimited storage back at the computer where all the media is stored. It could stream over the app you want to run from hundreds or thousands stored over in the big storage attached to your computer. iPads and iPhones only need big onboard storage because they are MOBILE devices not permanently tethered to your computer back home. :apple:TV is different. It's always got immediate access to HUGE storage attached to the computer running iTunes.

Aye, the way brighthouse prices broadband only service in my area it really doesnt leave much room to pay for third party programming in lieu of one of their bundles

I'm still very excited for new ATV though

I won't buy any service that requires me to pay for ESPN. OTT providers need to understand that not everyone wants to watch sports.

Currently Sucks because You Changed it Jagoffs!

Up until iTunes 11 the TV Experience was perfectly fine - not great, but at least functional, iTunes 12 broke everything. For some unknown reason the Jagoffs at Apple removed Episode DESCRIPTIONS. Why the F would you remove Episode Descriptions from purchased Season. ***** STUPID. Who is running design over there??? A Blind monkey?:mad::mad::mad:

On the positive side it's about time they overhaul the box, it (and the store) clearly wasn't built for HD Streaming. Half the time I can't watch HD Content purchased in the store - even though my Netflix and HBO Go, etc. stream HD fine (for the most part). Also when are they going to have a consistent UI between iTunes and Apple TV?

Why would you want Siri on a MacBook Pro?

With one button and a few quickly spoken words you can get weather, directions, adding something to my calendar almost instantly while in another app, etc.

One button & one step vs. finding the right app on the dock with the cursor, clicking, clicking again, typing, clicking again, typing more, clicking again, etc.

Ahh Finally an good Console from Apple

I just hope apple uses an A8X instead of an A8 then it wil be as good a gaming machine as Xbox 360 or PS3, which is good enough for me and a big enough incentive for big game publishers to consider iOS seriously.

I look forward to the day when i could start playing a game on my mobile and when i reach home i continue from where i left off on my TV.

I hope big publishers will start making games of the like of Lara Croft , Uncharted , prince of persia and Farcry. This is a neat move from apple and will knock the socks off a lot of publishers like Microsoft and Sony.

Beware Microsoft and Sony , Apple is coming with its own multipurpose console, with a rock solid ecosystem. There is gonna be a new entrand into the whole monopolized gaming scene by these two companies.

I am sure in a few weeks time LG, Samsung will also float there updated Android TV with gaming capabilities, but wait they dont have GPU comparable to A8X unless they choose to use Nvidia Tegra chip , which wil definitely give them an edge over A8X but also make the Android incarnation of Apple TVmore expensive.

This will be a great fight to watch, Who knows may be this will change the whole gaming industry and console scene forever that has happened with many other fields where Apple is involved.

I am eagerly waiting. I hope Mr. Cook is listening.

In Germany we currently have mobilcom/Debitel sell the AppleTV 3 for 58.99 or 48.99 EUR after a 10 EUR rebate voucher, that's about $52 with the voucher, which is a total steal right now.

It seems Apple really wants to get rid of excess stock, that's why they also lowered the official price to $69.

I guess this confirms it, a new AppleTV is finally coming.

If the Plex team comes out with a nice app for the new Apple TV I'll pick one up. However, the rumor is a Roku 4 is coming out soon so I'll be interested to see that. Honestly, I just use my Chromecast for everything now, especially Plex.
This news of a new Apple TV is definitely a good thing for those who are satisfied with Apple's offerings.

After trying for a long time to get it to work reliably (back when the ATV2 was first released) I finally gave up, switched to Roku 3 devices and Plex on my old Mac Pro tower. That combination has been terrific.

Apple Branded Cable Boxes

I would love to see Apple Strike Deals with Cable Companies to create Apple Branded set top boxes/DVRs. Then maybe we can get rid of these big, obnoxious buggy DVR Boxes.

The decision has already been made, and I don't think that word, "monopolized" means what you think it means, as it is quite impossible for anything to be monopolized by two entities.

FINALLY... What took them sooo long!??

The appstore on the @TV will be the killer feature and destroy all other media players out there...

Just hoping the price will be as attractive as the previous one at $99

Lets see if they will also offer HDMI 2.0 with 4K output

The new Apple TV will be part of Apple's ambitious plans to improve the TV experience, an area that iTunes chief Eddy Cue thinks "sucks" currently and Apple chief executive Tim Cook referred to as "stuck back in the 70s" in an interview with Charlie Rose last year.

Tim Cook thinks TV is stuck in the '70, so his solution is to offer a video streaming package of 25 pre-selected channels for about $40 a month... just like cable TV service people got back in the '70s. :p

you know, I just finished watching both the Cue and Cook interviews where they talk about TV. If they really put their words and turned them into actions with these products, then it really should change TV as we know it. If not, I will have lost a big chunk of faith in :apple:...
