It's weird isn't it? For decades, radio was used to promote songs by the curious tactic of simply playing them. Now in the digital age apparently 30 seconds (or even twice that) is apparently enough. Why is it with all this technological progress that in many ways we're going backwards?

RIAA, have a nice day.

Honestly it's clueless people like you that know nothing about the industry so you're opinion isn't valid. Justin B may have TONS of publicly but the kid is FAR from getting paid. He doesn't write, he barely sell records and he damn sure doesn't produce anything. People LIKE YOU only believe what you see. He's not rich and he doesn't have much pocket money, at all. Neither does Rihanna.

.

child stars (singers as well as actors) never see their money till they reach the age of 18. With Justin he can sing baby and post a fans cell phone number all he wants, he wont see his money (whitch isn't much. I would be surprised if its at least 25k, not even that) till hes 18. I remember they interviewed his mom on ET/Access hollywood and she is not happy over the plublicty hes getting.

Now go back to the child stars of the 80s, most are broke because they wasted their money on drugs since most were molested by Michael Jackson.

Someone voted negative. I'm hoping he doesn't understand the concept to voting positive/negative articles....either that or...the future is not bright for him. :)))

Or maybe someone's underwhelmed about the news that we can now hear 60 seconds instead of 30.

Big ****ing deal!

You Jobs-knob-gobblers are impressed by even the most pitiful "advances."

You care. I mean you took the time to visit this thread and make a comment.

Besides not every song is on youtube and if the song is on youtube its really crappy.

Just remember not everything revolves around youtube.

Name me a song that is not on youtube or pandora or last.fm et cetera. Yes, I care enough to listen to the entire song elsewhere. Personally I hate using the iTunes Store. It feels incredibly slow similarly to using dial up (yes I'm that old ).

kind of depeneds on what song you want and how good quality you want.

but yeah itunes is slow. Hopefully that new data center will bring the rumor of the store going to the web and itunes being slimed down to just a media player.

I totally agree. iTunes has become bloated. It tries to be everything e.g. books, movies, podcast and music. I'm sure Apple have discussed this internally. Breaking them up into iMovies, iBooks etc? I don't know. Apple's media business has become too big for iTunes and I'm sure they know that.

Maybe they should just let us listen to the song like 5 times or something, so we can really pick.

It sure does, and honestly, you are an idiot. Downloading music for free makes me a dishonest person? I pay my taxes, make an honest living, who am I exactly hurting by downloading music? The musicians? Oh no, I wonder how they are going to feed themselves and make a living. Jeez, you people make it out to be like I'm robbing a charity, get real.

So if your boss/clients didn't pay you anything for your work, how would you feel?

Should they think, "Oh I'm not robbing a charity, so let's screw him!"

If you can't chose after the first time then something is really wrong.

Someone mentioned full preview and then 30 second previews after that.

No what needs to be done is a total rewrite. Cocoa and 64 bit. Many of the code is still in Darwin? (?) and thats over 10 years old.

Perhaps, I misspoke when I said that iTunes is bloated which implies software inefficiency. What I meant to say is that iTunes as an app has too many uses which has lost its original intent. I don't see the need for movies and music ever having the need to share the same software not to mention audiobooks. Sharing the same billing information is the only thing that these three activities need to have in common me think.

that might help

Make that full 'Full Song Previews' [thanks to Lala]:

"After listening to the entire song once, you can preview a 30-second clip before purchasing.

Listening to a whole song instead of a predetermined 30-second snippet prevents buyers from purchasing a song that sounds good in the preview, but ends up being three minutes of blah blah with a catchy chorus.
"

The number one complaint for people who are unhappy about a purchase.

That and 'Radio Genius' would make up for a nice starter.

About god damned time. Bleep does this very well: the entire song can be previewed, but it starts to fade out each 30 seconds, requiring a click to continue.

lala connection

Maybe this is why they bought Lala, maybe you'll be able to listen to any song once (in it's entirety) and than decide if you want to buy it.

Whatever that means..

Nice idea, not sure whether it deserves a mention at the event though.
