No, it's called trust. If Apple says that they are going to keep the same quality if not better quality of products than I expect that they keep there word. If not and the products become worse than I may consider different products. If a company does not deliver on their word then why would I waste my time listening to them and therefore not buy their products, it's as easy as that. I'm not being ignorant, just trusting.

I am more jaded than that, but I still trust.

Apple's products are pretty good compared to a lot of others. They're far from perfect, but Apple does make acceptable products (occasionally they'll even crank out something that no competitor can touch). Keep that in mind. I'm no apologist (hell I use Linux on my "Mac" more than OS X), but I do see Apple at least making some kind of effort to fix problems that occur.

Example: The iPhone 2.0 software is buggy as hell, MobileMe's launch has been a disaster, the developer NDA is still in place which bothers a lot of us, and the implementation of the App Store leaves a lot to be desired.

Will all this be fixed, eventually? Quite possibly.

The simple fact that they might eventually fix it is enough to keep a certain number of people close to Apple products even if Apple royally screws up. What does that say about the competition? Heh.. I'll leave that for you to figure out.

Within the scope of the mainstream computer buying public, I think I can sum it up in one overgeneralizing statement...

Apple: At least you don't have to run Vista.

.. I'ts about time!

for the longest time Macbooks have not really changes much technologically, and worst of all price wise.

If we either get more for the same price or the same for lower costs, you will have an audience paying attention.

... Now if they could just implement the "bring us your old and we'll discount your new for about 20%"... well one can dream right?:D
