Awesome, its a smaller city, but smart move considering the students/schools there. And right in RIM's backyard is always nice too lol.

Well, in spite of all the hate-mongering going on toward RIM these days, it's clear that here in Waterloo, they still rule. Most devices I see are Blackberries. iPhones, while present are outnumbered by a large margin. Most people have the new Torch, from what I can see. Dunno if having the store here will change that in any way. Probably not.

The main thing that'll happen is that it will totally Kill the one independent place in town that sells Apple stuff, and will totally bring down the traffic in the Apple sections of the Best Buys and Future Shops.

Apple still doesn't have stores in every state in the USA... not that it matters. I'm surprised they have so many stores now. I'm surprised they don't have more. It's like that, but it's nice to see these places succeeding and growing.

hello :)

.. just one more thing:

we are very happy to have one.

see u there..

greets from germany.

Apple stores are the envy of the retailing world. They make more money per square foot than anyone. Ever been to an Apple store? They are ALWAYS full of people. I love Apple stores. I could live in an Apple store.
Hmmm, really? Most people in the Apple stores are loiterers who never buy anything at the store.

I love Apple products, but hate the stores. For me, being jammed in there with wall to wall people does not make an enjoyable shopping experience.

I live in Dresden...looking forward to it!

Have to say, although I'm sure there are very good reasons to which we aren't privy to, that the placement of retail stores seems hard to understand sometimes. There is quite a lot of confusement over why Dresden received an store before other large cities such as Duesseldorf, Stuttgart. Not to mention the capital city of Europe's biggest economy - Berlin. (Dresden is only around 1hr from Berlin though)

I look at somewhere like Australia which has 10 stores compared to the very few comparatively in Europe. None in Russia.....

Just my personal opinion - Dresden is a beautiful city so it would have been great to have had a stand alone store which may have been able to have been built into one of the many historic buildings. The population of just over 500,000 may not warrant an individual store though!!

I live here, too. Great to have a store around the corner now. I've never been to any Apple Store so far, won't be there for the opening tomorrow, as they're too cheesy for my taste ;)

Gonna check it out later on, when the masses are gone. Since they're (re)opening the whole mall tomorrow, it'll be hell...

Cheers!

I am personally against wasting resources to build more stores. What's wrong with just ordering online?

Wasting resources? Apple Stores are the most profitable in the industry and they are a huge part of Apple's success. You wouldn't believe the amount of people who come in just to see the iPad 2.

Are people already start to form lines to get the iPad2? (Assuming they have some available for the grand opening ... or at least people hoping there would be some)

According to arguments on another thread, "apple" is generic and "store" is generic so "Apple Store" is generic and Apple can't own the name.

Good point ... so this might in fact be a new store run by Microsoft to sell windows boxes :D (after all they tried to imitated the apple store experience with the MS Stores [including the location] ... why not use the same name since it is a generic name)

Hmmm, really? Seems they still make enough money by selling stuff in the store so that it is worth to open even more.

Too bad they can't buy the iPad2 since it's still out of stock everywhere ... but I fully agree.

Depending on local legislation they may have to call it:

Äpfel-Laden

in Deutschland!

actually it should be "Apfel Laden" since Apple is not plural ... (and I thought stupid laws like that exist only in France)

I didn't realize that they had slowed so much with making new stores. Seems pretty smart considering no matter how popular they become business is bound to slow at some point and it can be pretty hard if they opened too many stores. Krispy Kreme and Starbucks are an example of popular places that expanded too quickly, although Starbucks didn't hurt as much as KK when their business slowed.

Verdammt noch mal!

Dresden is a beautiful city, but Apple c'mon now, still no store in Berlin?! Give me a break!

Surely Berlin merits a beautiful store!

Was ist denn los?

Jesus how frighteningly pathetic this sounds. You need a buddy to go for a beer, coffee, smoothie?

Me and MY buddies don't drink beer, coffee or smoothies, we enjoy hard liquor, thanks.

What I meant was I rather go out and experiance a social activity, instead of pre-ordering and sitting around watching porn and fapping all day waiting for it to come to the door. I have gone out and bought every Apple product I own at the store, talking to a HUMAN, had a conversation, asked questions, talked to other customers, relayed concerns and shared stories. Thats not pathetic, thats called being human.

Ugh...no thanks...humanity is overrated. Thank God not everyone is an extrovert

Signed,

A proud ISTJ

But you would talk to the FedEx guy when he delivers the package :D ... or does he not qualify as HUMAN ?

Delivery folks HARDLY retain human status. Believe me, I was only a kid in the back throwing boxes on the truck when I used to work for UPS, the Delivery Drivers all lost their souls, it was creepy.

Plus what the **** do you have to talk about with a delivery driver? How the war in Libya is gonna drive up the prices of brown short shorts?

When I saw the thread, my first thought was, "Dresden, Ohio?" It's just a village, but it seemed such an unlikely place for a store in Germany.

However, Apple is known to be really, really picky when it comes to choosing store locations. Maybe they found the ideal spot in Dresden but haven't found one yet in Berlin. Which also seems really crazy. Maybe they want a spot on Unter den Linden?

Yes, but look at what they are doing, at least here in Mexico City there is an excessive amount of Apple (official) Resellers (as well as premium resellers). However, they are extremely ignorant when it comes to explaining the features of an Apple product. To give you an idea I walked into a Premium reseller and asked how Air Play works, guess what, the sales man didn't know, he asked other employes and nobody knew. I deciphered it myself and was somewhat angry with the experience they gave customers like me.
Every time I walk into an Apple Store they've been able to answer my questions.

I'm not saying they should be like Starbucks or kk, I'm just saying they should open 1 store in every major city, come on, Mexico City is enormous, there is obviously more people that can afford Apple products than in a small town in other countries where Apple has an official store!

lol at the tile floor being installed.

I know, it's a special floor and it sparkles. But seriously they import this stuff from Italy I think? It seems like an awful lot of trouble to go through for something that looks like concrete. XD I suppose it's cheaper to have the stuff shipped in than it is to have a really high quality concrete tile floor done. *shrug*

I wish they'd put some comfy chairs by the genius bar. Seriously. Is it too much to ask for? It doesn't really seem very Apple to see a number of people standing in a line alongside the front of the genius bar looking kinda frustrated/tired. Comfy people = more pleasant sight to see = more relaxed atmosphere I would hope.

Hmmm, really? Most people in the Apple stores are loiterers who never buy anything at the store.

Source?

Btw, in retail it's called closing rate. It's the percentage of people who walk in the store and buy something. Thought that would help you with your research if you ever get tired of blowing smoke out of....:D
