Is there no end to Tim's greed? I'm already paying for an Apple subscription, and now they want me to watch ads? Sorry, it's ads, or subscription revenue, not both. I don't pay to watch ads, morons.
Where do you watch live sports without commercials without a premium involved? Someone mentioned NBA, but that's $30 extra on top of the cost of the League Pass to have the stadium feed during the breaks. You'll be really upset to learn how much Sunday Ticket will cost when apple takes over and it still has....COMMERCIALS!

Does anyone expect Apple to offer MLS streaming for the base ATV+ monthly fee? I expect an added fee to stream MLS … and we now know it will also come with ads.

I'm not sure why anyone would think every game is included when they've already specifically announced otherwise. Every game requires extra subscription. Some games will be included in ATV+. A few games will be free to all.

Fans can get every live MLS match by subscribing to a new MLS streaming service, available exclusively through the Apple TV app.

A broad selection of MLS and Leagues Cup matches, including some of the biggest matchups, will also be available at no additional cost to Apple TV+ subscribers, with a limited number of matches available for free.

Season Ticket Holder Benefit: Each full-season ticket account will include one subscription to the MLS Streaming Service on Apple TV*

The Bloomberg article states the advertisements will be aired "during soccer games" with no clear indication of when during the entire match.
I assume that, as is already the case with American baseball and football, the announcers will be reading ads during lulls in the action; there will be bottom-third banners; and lots of other advertisements injected while the game is going on.

Heck, during the baseball playoffs I'm pretty sure they've been inserting extra ads between innings and then playing the commentary at somewhat faster than normal speed - I noticed, at the beginning of each half-inning, the radio calls lags Gameday by a good 30-45 seconds, but is almost caught up at the third out.

In any case, unless you're going to actually cancel your subscription, Apple couldn't care less. If you really want to make a point - cancel your subscription AND make it very clear why.

How do you know that ads will only be shown during halftime?

The Bloomberg article states the advertisements will be aired "during soccer games" with no clear indication of when during the entire match.
There was one particular incident here in the UK when the commercial tv showing a live game cut away for an ad at a critical point in the game and missed an all important goal being scored 😮😮

The most important thing for all the Americas Continent would be unifying Conmebol (South American football association) and Concacaf (North American football association):

1) It would create a spectacular international club competition, to rival the UEFA Champions League. It would generate a lot of investment and business for a supercharged Americas Libertadores Cup: Teams from Brazilian league, Argentinian League, Mexican League, MLS (USA) League, etc.

2) Unifying Copa America and Gold Cup in a Supercharged Copa America. A spectacular international national teams competition, similar to the 2016 Copa America, but with more teams.

3) If we don’t do this now, UEFA (European football association) will be a monopoly.

4) There would be more Americas teams in the World Cup, And the World Cup qualification would be super fun

In this thread: people that don’t watch soccer.

One of the beautiful things about the footy is that each half is played without clock stoppage. The only ads you’re going to see will be during halftime, where you’re just going to be watching something else for 20 minutes anyway.

As an MLS fan and Apple One subscriber, this is a treat. I’m excited that I won’t be paying my cable provider for this anymore.

I don’t watch football (aka soccer over there), but isn’t the danger for those that do, that Apple will cut to ad breaks despite the game continuing in real time?

It’s just incredible how Apple fanboys can defend Apple for literally everything. Now they’re saying Apple ads can actually improve user experience?

Oh Singularity0993, Apples ads will surprise and delight users in ways you cannot imagine, they will bring gambling ads to a whole new plateau and only serve to enhance the experience of the very high retail price that you paid for your Apple device.

No no no. If you want the Apple ecosystem to be premium and the choice of the wealthy we need no ads. I spend a premium for apple services, the least they can do is keep it clean and tidy!

I have been a MLS fan for 20 years. Watching it on tv has been a nightmare so far. I can’t wait to finally have everything in one channel.

However, I would not be surprised if they showed them while an injured player is attended to or while the match is stopped for a VAR review.
That’s what they will do. Short 5 seconds ads a couple of times during stoppages. Wouldn’t be the first time that it happens.

This is great news even for people like me who are not soccer fans. Because everything that they are doing is what is required for Apple to be the winner in the NFL Sunday Ticket contest. And if you’re a Sunday Ticket fan, you want an Apple to win! They will make send a ticket be resend a ticket always should’ve been a way to watch a football without going broke. I really believe that they are going to do that. Because Apple cares more about selling you things like the Apple TV than bankrupting you like dIRECTV has done for so many years.

After reading the entire comments I have to wonder if any of you understand broadcast sports. Because the broadcaster doesn’t let you carry the show for free. They have their own ads and if you don’t want to go broke, then you run your own ads. This is nothing like what Apple has paid for other services that they let you use. Now it’s true that they can charge you to see the content so much that they don’t need the ads, but I expect that would be just another thing that you would not like. Remember, my interest is in American football, and the ads are different there. By rule there are only certain times were you can run ads. They literally have to stop the game for you to get an ad.. so we don’t get very many ads. But I don’t want to pay the almost 500 dollars a year for the product either. I hope that Apple can have a middle ground.

People are losing their minds over what they’re inferring about ads. Ads aren’t just interruptions to the program, they could appear in graphics during play, spoken by announcers and yes, shown during half time.

Sports have always been sponsored. If anything, if feels weird when Friday night baseball goes to a splash screen without ads. This is soccer. There are no interruptions in play for ads. if there aren’t any unusual stoppages for injuries, the game will go on for at least 45 minutes without any interruptions so ads could never be guaranteed to sponsors. Instead they could have a sponsored scoreboard and replays. The most likely other than the guaranteed ads during half time, is that Apple will use AR to overlay ads on the sidelines.

This is what interests me most about the potential. This could be a significant departure from how things have been done before in regards to the NFL. Your local bar will certainly pony up for an AppleTV which would also bring MLS and MLB games… and any other app that someone feels would play well to a bar crowd.

Apple is controlled by scumbags now....

If Apple gets Sunday Ticket I'll gladly pay. Anything other than DTV that demands I get it though my dish (since my address confirms that). I just want streaming and will pay my bucks. Currently...I borrow things. As you say, commercials are everywhere if you partake in society.

Agree on the ads not mattering much but even half time ads are annoying if I'm paying a subscription as well.

As for this being a "treat," it's going to be great not having any local broadcasts, having many bars that won't be able to show the game, and paying for another subscription (that actually doesn't apply to me, as I'm a season ticket member, but still sucks). This agreement is so bad for the sport and was just a quick money grab from owners not looking at long term growth.

The great thing about Soccer besides it being the World’s Sport… is that there are NO COMMERCIALS. Adding commercials wil suuuuck. I love Apple TV, but will watch my ⚽️ games elsewhere.

Football on the BBC doesn’t carry any advertisements.

All three streaming tiers will have ads, including the dedicated package, paid TV+ subscriptions, and the free TV app.
Paid TV+ would be the Apple TV+ sub right? I'm sure those who are on free trial also get this (are they strict on "paid")?

Free TV app means I can open up the Apple TV app on my iPad and watch this, without a sub?

What's "dedicated package"?
