I’m so tired of this attitude. Your experience/life/usage pattern is NOT universal. People need to stop assuming their experience is everyone’s experience/the majority experience.

No need to upgrade every year FOR YOU. For other people there might be any number of reasons to upgrade more frequently.
Maybe that money IS more useful to someone else spent on a new iPhone than other things. Again, different people have different priorities and needs. If you don’t need to upgrade as often, great! For YOU it’s wise to save your money and spend it elsewhere. Enjoy your vacation.
And I say that as someone who also doesn’t upgrade every year, because for me it’s not worth it anymore. But I’m not everyone. My needs are not your needs.

This forum would be dramatically better if people stopped acting like how they use their iPhone/iPad/MacBook/whatever device is not the same as everyone else. And what they like/want isn’t what everyone else likes/wants.

Enough.
Right? Seriously, - it's so silly. I've upgraded every year and this year's battery life, camera improvements, and absolutely GLORIOUS display update means I've zero regrets moving from my 12 Pro Max to the 13 Pro Max.

Anyway, this bug is annoying - let's stay on topic.

Glad to see they are aware of this issue. Spent too much time trying to get it to work before doing a search and seeing it was an issue. I seldom wear a mask (I let my vaccine do the work, not a piece of clot) so no big deal, just want it to be there if needed.

All my MacRumor friends I have a serious question. I have yet to get my iPhone 13 Pro so I don't know what to expect but as an owner of a 11 Pro and a iWatch 6 both running iOS 15 I need to know something. Will this bug effect my watch from syncing up my health data to the new 13. I can live with the opening phone till it gets fixed but I can live with the 13 not syncing my health data to it. I rely on it way to much and its shared to my cardiologist. Hopefully some one will be able to tell and assure me it will or not. If not I just may send the phone back and not even try.

No issues with Health on my end. It's just the pairing process for FaceID is borked.

There is a fix for this already. Reset your Apple Watch, keep cell plan if you have one, reset all settings and content on iPhone, keep cell plan if all ready setup. Restore from iCloud and re pair watch. Enable unlock with Apple Watch and it will work.
It is a hit or miss deal from what I've read. My wife is a nurse, so I was going to go this route. But it does take time to do and not a guaranteed fix. I convinced her to wait for Apple's fix.

Yeah, that’s working out just great. I have a family member who thinks masks don’t work, so she went to Disney world and has been coughing for two weeks.
It’s not all doom and gloom here. If you want to wear it, great. If not, great. The only place that I have been where it was required is the Apple Store. So they hand them out.
Regardless, the feature needs to be fixed.

Yeah I honestly can't be faffed to mess with this on the off chance it works. Will just hope Apple releases an update shortly to fix it.

this feature is pretty useless even when working normally, if i pull my mask down to my nose, the phone will only try to use Face ID and doesn't unlock with Apple Watch, mask has to be on my face properly AND i've to pick up the phone in my hand in order for it to work!
way too much restrictions, just very unthoughtful in how they put in so much criteria for it to work

Maybe you should have your mask on normally…? Otherwise just take it off since it’s about as effective.

Should we tell him that the nose AND mouth BOTH are connected to the lungs? If your mask doesn't cover your nose, the airborne virus called COVID-19 can *still* infect your respiratory system by entering through your nose. It can ALSO still spread when you exhale through your nose -- unless, I guess, if you only breath through your mouth (which, let's face it, is likely the case...)

I can confirm that several pairing related issues still exist in iOS 15.1b1 and watchOS 8.1b1
  • Unlock iPhone with AW
  • Unlock macOS Monterey 12.0b7 with AW
  • Unable to pair iPhone with Panasonic DECT Link-2-Cell BT handset system

I can confirm that the following works with iOS 15.1b2 and watchOS 8.1b2
  • Unlock iPhone 13 Pro with AW
  • Unlock macOS Monterey 12.0b8 with AW
Unfortunately, the following is still not working
  • Unable to pair iPhone 13 Pro with Panasonic DECT Link-2-Cell BT handset system

I swear, I have checked like every hour since the dev release went out! I had to be out among people today, and the lack of mask unlock was so annoying. I really had been spoiled by the PBs all summer!
Me too!!! I cant believe it’s still not up! Wait… let me check… nope!
