To me there's absolutely no value in this service. I just don't get it. Do people really live such interesting lives, that others need to know where they are at any given moment in time, and look at their stupid photos?

Wow - I'm old. lol

Indeed. No, it's not important; I can't believe people today need to know what other people are doing in such great detail.

Perhaps we've got it all wrong. Why must Apple compete against FaceBook? Until the deal fell apart, Ping was supposed to have FaceBook integration. Perhaps Apple is gearing its service to behave as semi-autonomous extension of social networking. If you want the FaceBook integration you flip the "on switch" and if you're content with MobileMe, you just leave it alone.

I doubt it.

+1 A lot of this new geolocation tagging freaks me out. I can't believe people also tag their houses. Seems like an invite for someone to rob them when they check into McDonald's. :p

An old friend of mine from high school who I also have as a Facebook friend frequently tags his home. I've tried to warn him about that, but it apparently falls on deaf ears.

Here's an idea:

Lets skip this nonsense, and instead upgrade the iDisk servers from their current 4200-rpm laptop drives and dial up connection to, oh, I don't know, perhaps a few HDS fiber chan arrays with some real bandwidth attached.

Because right now it's slower than frozen molasses.

You're all wrong: Apple's new service will automatically take 30% of your paycheck, and 30% of all purchases you make.

*sigh* I'm not ready to give up on the dream of a fast iDisk and personal domain email, but I'm not exactly confident either.

Thus why nobody ever moved from myspace to facebook or twitter.

I see your point, but MySpace, Facebook and Twitter are free. Myspace collapsed when News bought it and Facebook emerged when they continued to innovate. I don't see the day coming when a major company runs a commercial that directs you to the website www.me.com/chevy or www.ping.com/chevy

Additionally; why would anyone pay for this stuff? just because it's apple branded? MobileMe is a "hobby" for Apple just like AppleTV.

Young people must be so wrapped up in this social networking labour they must never leave their bedrooms. Just give us a decent amount of storage with quicker Finder integration.

Careless

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_2_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8C148 Safari/6533.18.5)

I could care less about the social stuff

Then why don't you??

Unfortunately, the slow iDisk service has been a problem since Day 1. I keep renewing my account (which I've had since the iTools days) every year, but I'm really not sure why.

Ok, I don't use the checkin feature of facebook as that tells everyone "hey, I am not home - come break in" There have been more than enough news stories of facebook friends robbing you. Also take a look at this site:

http://pleaserobme.com/

Second, like I would want someone showing up where I am, that I do not want to see....

Now, I will admit I use youtube, twitter, facebook, and me mobileme website (http://web.me.com/shervieux )for my ministry. I have trouble keeping them all up to date, nevermind adding apple's version as another. Can we just come up with one service that will put an entry on my facebook ministry page, tweet at the same time? and also a service that will post a video on youtube, and auto-tweet / auto-update my facebook ministry page?

Same with mobile me / iweb would be nice if the blog pages had a service that would tweet, and update my facebook ministry page everytime I post something. Right now, I have to update my website with a blog / devotion; then tweet about it, then go to FB and post a link.

Foursquare. One of the more narcissistic things I've seen. Besides being useful to businesses (eventually), why in the world would anyone partake in that nonsense? Self-importance.

Gotta love receiving check-in tweets from the same person 20 times a day, who makes it a point to check into to every ****ing place they go. I mean, why, other than being a narcissistic prick? Maybe if there's some type of purpose, ie. to let people know you're somewhere so they can meet you, but thats never the case. I just unfollowed 2 people today because if this ********. Noone gives a **** where you are every second of the day. I mean, maybe I'd check in after I climbed mount everest or something, but not every ****ing time I go to the gym or my daily lunch spot, especially since its the same damn routine everyday.

So like... Facebook come foursquare come Ustream come dropbox? constantly updated?

If they do make it free then I'm all over it ;)

Because, very recently, Facebook decided it was going to compete against Apple with phones. They just announced at the Mobile World Conference in Barcelona that the "Facebook phone" will be coming out. Heck, they're even going to build Facebook integration within a SIM card so even the cheapest phones can be Facebook friendly.

So, Facebook is getting into phones, and Apple is getting into social networking.

And with Google lurking around, the battle for your information and your soul has begun.

As recently as 2-3 years ago, nobody would have seen the day coming when major companies like Chevy would direct you to a facebook page. And 2-3 years ago, almost nobody had ever so much as even heard of Twitter.

So that fact that, right now, you "don't see the day coming when a major company runs a commercial that directs you to" a me.com website is basically irrelevant. If there is any company in the world that has demonstrated the ability in recent years to innovate technology in pretty radical ways, make the innovation user-friendly, market it well, and make a giant splash that quite literally alters cultural trends...it is Apple. Think of what mobile digital music was before iTunes and the iPod. Think of what cell phones were before the iPhone and the iOS App Store. Think of what tablet computers were before the iPad. Once Apple fully jumps in to a technology segment, overnight they're playing chess while everyone else is still playing checkers.

There's no guarantee they will attempt anything on such a grand scale with me.com, and if they do make the attempt there is no guarantee it will succeed. But if I was a betting man...I wouldn't bet against them (if this is indeed where they have decided they want to focus their efforts).

I am obviously way too old, but I would never use any of this.

Those of you who feel compelled to update the universe with every thought or detail of your lives will undoubtedly welcome these new features.

I attended a marketing class for automotive repair shop owners at Automotive Training Institute (I am temporary consulting at a repair shop for a friend of mine: http://dougsautoonline.com ) . If you are in the automotive repair industry, I suggest following these guys on facebook and attending their classes.

Anyway, they are top notch with what they are saying:

1. Company's website - does not really matter too too much anymore. Should only be a secondary place to post information.

2. Top search engines for businesses to keep up with: Google /bing / yahoo place pages. Microsites like dex, mantra, citysearch, and others. Next biggest ones - facebook business page, and youtube. Most people do not google how to do anything; they youtube search for a video on how.

3. Also, your website better be mobile ready. tablets and smart phones are more used than desktops / laptops for web surfing.

Actually, you don't need to do any of these things, as they're all completely superfluous and non-necessary.

I would like to hear your suggestion then, for my world-wide growing ministry. It would be great to pass on to other pastors and ministries who are doing the same thing. All have a website, tweet, and facebook. This includes big and small ministries. big ministries include: Samaritan's Purse, Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, Charles Swindoll / Insight for Living, Dr. David Jeremiah / turning Points; just to name a few - there are hundreds of others.

I am open to suggestions...
