Americans, not American's. And we do NOT pronounce it that way. It is said as it is spelled (sorry, spelt). And you missed a bunch of letters from your other examples, if they are to be equivalent.

Galliuminium, magnesiumium, uraniumium, etc.

All in good fun, my friend.

Ha! That's the spirit :D

Bloody yanks (etc.)

Exciting and worrisome.

Glass is inherently brittle, so why make a phone even more damage prone just for the sake of making it "pretty" and "premium"?!

I hadn't actually recognised that the north American spelling of the word reflected it's pronunciation. Fair enough ;)
It's interesting however that the original spelling of the word prior to it's American and British alterations was alumium: http://www.grammarphobia.com/blog/2008/06/aluminum-vs-aluminium.html

My wife and I were just discussing how 'slick' the iPhones are, and not in a good way. As in, if I did not have a rubberized case on this thing it would just slip right out of my hands and shatter on the floor. All of this effort to make the phone look pretty goes out the window when you HAVE to have a case on it... fingers crossed there is a good solution to this when it drops!

Hopefully the finish on the metal makes it less slippery than the current bar of soap iPhone

It's not a bar of soap. It's thinner.

Huh??? That's how it's pronounced

Not really.

Profits.

In terms of drop impact it makes little difference if only one side of the phone is made of glass or both. But glass has better characteristics over metal in some areas and the iPhone 4(S) was perceived as one of the best designs yet, so it's not necessarily a purely profit-driven decision. Who knows - if they stick closely to the 4(S) design, we might even see a trend reversal in terms of repairability.

I wonder how it will work if they are using all glass, if there is no bezel will the glass from the screen of the phone meet with that on the back? maybe a seamless looking design, kind of like o the Jet Black 7 and 7 Plus phone, where it looks like it all meets together. Also isn't there a rumour that the screen will curve on both sides of the device, that would be interesting to see, it's what Samsung did with their Edge phone and people have called it gimmicky and not very useful.

Actually, most people I see have trouble with dropped phones is because they hold it like it was some fragile flower, and often by the edges.

I've held my phones hard mid screen for a long time each day (Its often always in my hands), often holding it while in buses, or whatever place were you can be bumped hard 50 times a day, with no drops in 9 years.

Not even sure how you can drop the 6s if you've got your tumb mid screen, mid back, with a decent amount of pressure (yes, you do need to apply some pressure, the screen can take it). Tried it just then, and I can shake it like a madmen (did the experience over a king bed) and it does not budge : people are afraid to press on the screen!

It's a different spelling (both are correct). It's just the way he pronounces it, cracks me up every time.
Yeah I knew that, but what's funny is Apple still spells it "aluminum" AS Jonny Ive says it with the extra "i" in adverts.

Not inherently true. Depends on your locale.

Aluminum. Aluminium. Both are correct.

Just wait until Trump makes America great again, then many more element names will be americanised:

Calcium -> Calcum
Magnesium -> Magnesum
Uranium -> Uranum
Lithium -> Lithum

and many more... :D

Will Ceramic! Glass ceramic break if I drop it?

No. Think the ceramic used in expensive skateboard ball bearings. Or the white Apple Watch.

How about make some new elements, like Trumpium? :D

Half of MR complaining about not having more screen size options, half complaining about fragmentation. You guys are my people.

Now to actually add something to the conversation; I loved the iPhone 4 look, best looking phone ever imo, but I don't want to see Apple just go back to that same design. Something similar will be beautiful, but they need to make different enough to where people don't notice.

Here's what I think Timmy has up his sleeve..
iPhone8+ - same size as 7+, but with edge-to-edge OLED (no more home button) / enhanced camera
iPhone8 - same size as 7, but with edge-to-edge LCD / lower end camera
Both - wireless charging (probably something like the apple watch) / "water resistant" but virtually waterproof, but you won't be covered for damage / 128gig/256gig/512gig / option to buy AirPods with the phone for $100.

I want to believe they will bring the dual camera to the smaller phone, but I don't see it happening, it just gives that much more incentive to buy the more expensive phone. I think apple wants to get rid of all ports since when they talked about the wireless future and AirPods they almost talked themselves to orgasm. BUT this puts them in a tight spot for headphones, it's either go wireless and include AirPods in the cost of the phone which would upset a lot of people or give them an option to buy them with the phone at a discounted price.

the iPhone 4 stainless steel was indeed a great design, look and feel. Wondering when they will ever start using liquid metal for something serious ;-)
