But this problem has always been odd to me since you can just register through the internet and Apple gets nothing. It works really smooth.

Totally agree. But there are lots of people who are oblivious to the existence of anything beyond the walled garden.

And Apple rakes in massive amounts of money from that - without doing anything other than being a middle man for the subscription fees. Easy money. By the boatload.

Take that, "Apple is greedy" people!

/s

You DO understand that they still take 15% for absolutely NOTHING in return?

No it wasn't. Apple is able to bring an app from you to their 1 billion users, using their infrastructure. Taking 30% of the revenue of that is standard.

Yeah. And the only option for app developers to deploy their app on those devices is the App Store because Apple have locked down the operating system. And that is something that should be illegal.

You think Apple are doing this to be nice to the consumer? They're doing it because no one was biting with that ridiculous 30% they were charging, they had to do it. Don't think otherwise.
I'll bet you're the kind of nasty person who explains to children that Santa Claus is fictional and presents are brought by their parents instead

I can see it from both sides. On one hand it looks like they are taking a big cut for nothing which they probably are taking too much for what they give. On the other hand they allow developers to reach a bigger market than they normally would.
I guess the problem is that people like spotify and netflix already have a big market position and Apple don't really enhance that.

Yeah, for me it's the fact you can watch it using Safari for free. That it's basically free everywhere else except when bought through the app on iOS.

30% for apps I get. Having used to host products on my own site and then migrating to Steam, Mac App Store etc it just takes off soooooo much load. Plus you're actually using Apple's servers then for asset and item storage, and they act as a mini-promoter if you've got a great product.

Um, your ATT analogy isn't even remotely comparable.

Further, no you didn't pay for that infrastructure. You paid for a phone and you got it.

Imagine AT&T taking 30% on top of that for using thier infrastructure and the guy owning the cell tower want 30% too, then you'll see how redicilous that is. I can only get my apps through Apple on a device I paid for... If apple want a cut, give me the phone for free, until that happens, I paid for that infrastructure .
