Agreed!

Hmmmmm.........now do I
1) Buy a iPad2 this Friday and hope for the best (right now I think Android 3.0 is better than iOS for a tablet)
2) Wait for the Xoom to drop at Sams Club for $539 (Wi-Fi) Version.
3) Wait for iOS5 to be announced so I can compare that with Android3.0!

What I hope iOS5 has
1) New notification system
2) Widgets or Smart Icons
3) Something to fix Phone Apps from displaying like they do now on the IPad(it's pretty awful). Either allow the iPhone 4 apps to display in full screen (it's the same resolution, right?), or do a traditional Window display where you can move around several "Apps" at the same time around a desktop.

Let's see.... buy a Xoom which may never get an OS update after a year (Moto still needs to prove they will not abandon old hardware like they do now with cell phones) or buy an iPad that has regular updates throughout the year.

I'd place my bets on the Apple table.

P.S. if #3 really bothers you... then you have not looked close at the Apps for the Xoom. On the demo model they had some that were down right ugly.

They can't wait much longer than that if they want to give developers enough time to get their iOS 5 apps in before public release.

Yeah... but iOS 4.3 is really just a minor update for Verizon. 5.0 should be a significant update.

But, I would think it would be targeted for the WDC and not April????

Disagree.

i can't see this happening with iOS 4.3 being so hyped up from apple, they are definitely going to let 4.3 soak in for more than 3-4 weeks.

Disagree. 4.# is a current os level and 4.3 is another update to that.

iOS 5.0 needs to be in developers hands for a few months anticipating an iPhone and iPod Touch update this summer.

Xoom is a "Google Experience" Device, meaning that update to Honeycomb will come from Google not Moto. Like the Nexus Line.

Anywho, I cant wait to see what apple changes, because they need to do alot. Starting with copying Androids Notification system and syncing capabilities.

Thank you. I was going type all that; but decided I could get further talking to the wall, than someone whose indecisive between the iPad & a Motorola Xoom.

This is fantastic news, I really hope iOS 5 surprises us, because god knows it needs to.
If i don't see a proper notification system, and a better system, then my next phone might be an Android.

Free MobileMe? I really hope so too, or maybe a much cheaper version, as many of the current features are available from other sources for cheap or free.

If Apple doesn't introduce a revamped notification system with iOS5, then I will eat 5 kittens, uncooked.

I'm right there with you! Wait...no I'm not! I want new notifications but obviously not as bad as you sir. Lol funny post though.

What if a new notifications pane were accessed by double-tapping the status bar? Seems like a good solution. It would be difficult to accidentally initiate that gesture.

Pretty sure these guys just read my website. This is pretty much exactly the most recent post on my blog (see my signature...). And I scooped them by several days ;)

It was so obvious that last weeks event used app filler to take up the last half. I'd bet they had something planned and pulled it at the last minute.

No way in hell the demos they showed have lasted as long as they did.

iOS5

A new notification system is obvious and will come along with a complete overhaul of the interface. But even more, from what I've heard, Apple will blow us all away this time focussing on interoperability of apps.

All I can say is that iOS will get some inspiration from the good old NeXT-days (among this being a Shelf, on which apps can let you put bits of information to reuse them in other apps, and Services like we know them from the Mac).

If iOS 5 is bringing big changes, they need to give devs time to retool and update.

  • Mid April: Introduce iOS 5
  • Early June: Give devs a change to ask questions/get help with iOS 5 at WWDC
  • Late June: iPhone 5 / IOS 5 released

More than any new hardware I always look forward to Apple's software events. I am really excited to see what they are bringing to the new table. If the only thing they bring is a new notification system, ill be perfectly happy :D

I'm still hoping for a complete overhaul of iOS, not just the badly needed updated notification system.

iPhone OS 2 special event: March 6, 2008
iPhone OS 3 special event: March 17, 2009
iOS 4 special event: April 8, 2010

It would only be news if they *didn't* have an iOS 5 special event sometime in the next few weeks...

Seems early. But I always like having more features on my iOS devices.

I was thinking they'd save iOS 5 and Mobile Me for WWDC, but I suppose that would take away from Lion. Would be nice for WWDC to actually go "Back to the Mac" with Lion though.
