There are a couple of thoughts apart from other discussions:

1. Dashboard: Is dashboard coming? I say yes. Just the way, it is implemented in Mac OS X 10.7; the left most screen, its coming to iOS 5.0.

2. Is there UI redesign. iOS UI IS great. It's one of the most mature UI's present in mobile devices today. What I like to see is apple giving it a Mac OS X touch. The UI elements are similar, but the design isn't rich.
Let's look at the Popovers in both. In Mac OS X, they look GREAT; in iOS, they look BAD.

It's great that it looks simple but beautifying things in a way it doesn't make them complex is art and I think Apple can do that.

So I'm hoping for a much richer UI redesign and I think Apple can do it.

Yeah, a friend of my cousin who went to school with a guy that works next door to Apple told me the same thing.

Yeah, some girl I once met at the cinema used to know a guy who worked in a hotel who once saw the cousin's neighbour's friend of a guy who used to live with someone who was friends with someone who's brother's neighbour worked in a shop next to an apple store, and she said the same thing.

I'm uncertain what's on my wish list for 5.0, but i think a revamped notification system, unrestricted Airplay for 3rd party apps (I may be mistaken, and this may be in 4.3), a file saving system, FaceTime over 3G, and updated native applications (maps, youtube, etc).

I'm sure whatever it is I'll eventually convince myself that it's incredible.

Is nobody going to mention it? A better filesystem, please!

Amen.

Finder, better notifications, improved UI and some original surprises please.

I'm guessing that Siri will be used seemlessly through the whole of iOS5, and I reckon that'll be the killer feature.

i can't see this happening with iOS 4.3 being so hyped up from apple, they are definitely going to let 4.3 soak in for more than 3-4 weeks.

It's just going to be a preview. We probably won't see it on our phones/iPads until July at the earliest

You couldn't be any further from the truth since iOS 5 will initially be for Developers and not the general consumer until the summer time.

FaceTime over 3G will only happen when the carriers want it to. But everything else you said would be nice, except I don't really use AirPlay so I'd be able to live with the other stuff. I'm also hoping for a little bit more personalization with the UI but that's most likely wishful thinking.

You do know Apple are cross linking your MR account to Facebook then Dating sites so they can seed rumors by setting up your cousin's BBF on blind dates with Apple employees.

You beat me to that, but well done I got a good laugh from this.

iOS 5
- New notification system
- Speed improvements using GCD

iPhone 5
- dual-core A5
- 1080p video out
- 8 MP camera
- 4 inch screen
- new case?

I have to think that this is exclusively a MobileMe/Cloud event. I could see this also being a Lion event - as I recall the last Lion event hinted at a late Spring, early Summer release.
I imagine the iOS 5 debut will be made @ the WWDC in early June with the iPhone 5.

I should really be working right now.

Thank you. I was going type all that; but decided I could get further talking to the wall, than someone whose indecisive between the iPad & a Motorola Xoom.

Care to explain instead of flame?

I love most of my apple products, but I'm not just going to buy something because they stick an apple logo on the back of it!

What I hope for is something, anything, that closes the barrier between the iOS device and the desktop; hopefully with the iOS device doing the moving rather than the OS X desktop.

I just hope Apple still has the daring to do such a thing.

If Apple doesn't introduce a revamped notification system with iOS5, then I will eat 5 kittens, uncooked.

Are you saying that because you're supremely confident that it will happen, so you'll never have carry out your promise?

Or because you'll be so distraught if they don't do it that you'll do kitten-eating self-harm (not to mention cruelty to kittens?) :p.

Agreed!

Hmmmmm.........now do I
1) Buy a iPad2 this Friday and hope for the best (right now I think Android 3.0 is better than iOS for a tablet)
2) Wait for the Xoom to drop at Sams Club for $539 (Wi-Fi) Version.
3) Wait for iOS5 to be announced so I can compare that with Android3.0!

What I hope iOS5 has
1) New notification system
2) Widgets or Smart Icons
3) Something to fix Phone Apps from displaying like they do now on the IPad(it's pretty awful). Either allow the iPhone 4 apps to display in full screen (it's the same resolution, right?), or do a traditional Window display where you can move around several "Apps" at the same time around a desktop.

You should read this before you make a decision on the xoom http://arstechnica.com/gadgets/reviews/2011/03/ars-reviews-the-motorola-xoom.ars

Things aren't looking that good for it

Let's see.... buy a Xoom which may never get an OS update after a year (Moto still needs to prove they will not abandon old hardware like they do now with cell phones) or buy an iPad that has regular updates throughout the year.

I'd place my bets on the Apple table.

P.S. if #3 really bothers you... then you have not looked close at the Apps for the Xoom. On the demo model they had some that were down right ugly.

I agree, it's a major turn off for Android/Google. Microsoft is trying to push updates in a more Apple-way, but from multiple vendors, and even that ain't going so well for them.

So point for Apple.

And that is true about the (phone) Apps on the Xoom looking pretty bad...meh, either way isn't that great. Maybe they should just not let Phone Apps run on tablets =)

I just hope iOS brings some new fresh features. Google, Microsoft and HP are all coming out with some fun features and UIs that Apple should take "inspiration" from ;).

Anyone notice that multi-tasking blocks out everything else on the user interface but actually uses very little screen space? I think iOS 5 will use that unused space for something, either widgets or notifications. Just seems like a logical use of space to me.

Can we assume that the following is the schedule of releases for iOS and devices we can expect from Apple?

March - new iPad
April - new iOS introduction
early June - WWDC
late June/July - iPhone
September - new iPod Touch/Apple TV

Also, is OS/X Lion scheduled to be released during WWDC this year or sometime later?

Judging by videos I'd say the new WebOS tablet coming out is going to be superior, with the iPad coming in 2nd. As an Android phone user I can't get on board with their tablet just yet but it has potential. Of course videos don't always tell the truth, but I believe WebOS is still superior to iOS and now that it's part of a company with billions in the bank instead of a company that couldn't pay the bills the best is yet to come.

Of course third party apps will drive the sales of these devices, and I'm still worried if Apple holds their ground on their subscription plans we'll see some big third party apps disappear such as Netflix, Kindle, Pandora, and so forth. Hopefully they'll all be on board WebOS.

I'm in the market for a tablet but I'll wait to see the WebOS product first hand before making a decision. I'm also waiting until this summer when Apple's imposed deadline for their subscription service takes place to see what happens. If Netflix, etc decide to leave I 100% blame Apple for them leaving.

All they said is Summer 2011 :/
