Exactly. OPINION. Which means Apple's probably differs from yours.
I never stated otherwise. Just making a prediction is all. Sorry if that offended you somehow.

Nah, it's okay. We just have different views. :)

Can you tell why anybody would want that over an iPod touch (assuming from this rendering that it is to thin for a HDD)?

Personally, capacity, and click wheel. I have about 100 GB of music, and I like to have it all with me. I also like having a click wheel, more tactile and being able to easily control without looking at it. Or click while still in my pocket, through my pants. I can't do with a touch interface.

Music junkies/lovers would. The Classic is the only device that offers lots of storage and which focuses exclusively on iTunes content (music, videos, podcasts, etc.).

I am so down for that. I'll take the 240GB one in black please!

Don't forget the movie junkies. There's no way you can store 100GB of movies (or anything of that size) on a Touch.

No, but you can do it with the remote. Start/Pause, volume up/down, skip to next song (skip to previous song is also possible but a bit chancy). So, again what advantages does the clickwheel have?

And the person who put forward that rendering also suggested flash storage not HDD. I fully agree on the capacity issue but I do not agree on the advantage of the clickwheel.

Those who decide not to use/buy Apple headphones, such as myself, dont' like using their headphones. And for those who connect their iPod to Aux cables, won't have that option. Again, the tactility and simplicity of the click wheel is invaluable to me. I've had both in my car for music, and I find the control much easier, while driving. Touch screens are a bit too "touchy". It might seems like a small thing, but dragging my finger up and down a touch screen, is definitely different than the click wheel interface. I have no need for the Touch's interface. I want music, all of it, in the palm of my hand, with a simple click wheel and menu interface, that is all.

I salute you good poster! Well said indeed, and I agree wholeheartedly.

kodawarisan's rumor

Sorry, the Kodawarisan post is really not worth the attention being paid it. My translation of the source Japanese on the Kodawarisan post is as follows "2011-08-12: Will the new iPod series products be announced on Sept 8? The fall Apple Special Event, which has become an annual custom, is said to be held this year on Sept 8. Last year's Special Event was held on Sept 2, and the iPod series, such as the iPod touch, iPod shuffle, and the newly designed iPod nano, was announced.
This year's Special Event will likely be held on Sept 8 when a certain program ends, and a new iPod series will probably be announced. So, there is a high possibility that the iPhone 5 will be announced from the end of Sept to the first 1/3 of October, after shipments of the iPod series have settled down a bit."
Really, that's it. In all it's fuzzy glory. Not sure what "certain program" is. On a scale of reliability and precision of 1-10, I'd give it 1.

Uh, I don't use their headphones. I still have a remote (and a mic on it to use with my iphone).

If you just want the remote (and not even the mic part), there is a large selection of headphones that aren't apple's you can use. If you want the mic you can still have some selection too *shrug*. For that matter there are a few companies that actually just sell the remote that you can plug whatever headphones you want to use into the remote and then the remote into the ipod.

As for the rest of your argument, you're right, different strokes for different folks. Personally, I find touch controls a lot easier to deal with than the click wheel.

On a side note, it makes a bit of sense... they said that Q3 would be affected. If they're announcing it early Sept, and releasing it near end of Sept, then iPhone sales would be filed under Q4,

So long as the sales happen before the close of business on the last day of Q3 they count for that quarter. Which means the end of the day on Sept 24th. They could pull another thursday launch day and have 3 days of sales that count for q3, which is fine cause the launch day and 2 days after are typically the highest daily sales for a new phone anyway.

This new ipod will be able to be used as a wifi phone, which is why you can see mic and loudspeaker on the bottom.

If you are supposed to make calls on this the speaker won't be on the bottom. Cause then it won't be by your ear to make calls.

Nice try though.

Do you think we'll see the Classic finally killed off this year?

Personally I don't think they will kill off the Classic until the prices are feasible for a 128GB or higher ipod touch. And even then they might just put that 128/256 into the classic form thus eliminating the breakage risks of an actual HD.

Where would the event be?
Yerba Buena already shows an event on their calendar for that date and Moscone already has one on 09/08.
Isn't the September event usually a multi-day deal?

The ipod event is one day and more often than not of late has been on the campus. Local media and the biggest names get invites and everyone else just republishes. THey might also do another live stream to fill in the gaps.

Then again, who says they have to have an event at all. They could just take down the website for a night and it comes back with the deets and some videos and new ipods available to order right then (iphones to launch a week or two later on a date that is listed on the site)

Not sure what "certain program" is.

In the past the ipod event and release came a week or two after the end of the back to school program to avoid confusion over which ipods were eligible (it was always the 'old' ones). But this year the BTS isn't about ipods so there's no issue. If that is what they are referring to then someone didn't get the memo about the change in the program.

I didn't say that it was just their headphones, I know others offer them. But for the demographic, of audiophile, music lovers, a mic/remote part isn't something I look for, and why look for an extra, although very small, it's one less feature I don't need when I have the click wheel. To each their own.

At this rate iPhone 6 will come out before iPhone 5 does.

Based on rumors over the past three weeks, it did seem as though the iP5 product cycle would be a short one. However at this point it's possible Apple will milk the iP5 for maximum profit before releasing iP6.

Nonetheless I'm still avoiding 5 and will happily wait for the 6.

I believe once six is here, we'll look back & be glad we skipped it. There's too much riding on the A6 chip, the unified OS & all the progress that this combination will bring. Far outpacing iP5, it will take it's place in history much like the 3GS, as nothing more than a temporary bridge to the next major upgrade, the A6 juggernaut.

Exactly. I had a first gen iPod Nano which I replaced with a 2007 30GB Video iPod because I decided I liked carrying all my music with me. 3 years later ran out of space on it, I don't really watch videos on them so its pure music.

So I bought a 160GB iPod Classic in early 2010. And as a music junkie, I love it. I still have a ton of capacity left (like just under 100GB still free!) so I can put movies on if I want and still have music space left over.

I'd love to see a smaller thinner iPod classic using flash memory or SSD and even more capacity with a physical interface like the click wheel. But the cost of flash memory over say 100GB is probably still insane. 160GB flash memory Classic would probably be impossible to build based on current technology.

And the cost of a 64GB iPod Touch is $399. The cost of the 160GB iPod Classic is $249. A 160GB flash based iPod Classic would then probably cost close to $1,000. Add in the fact you'd end up with a touch screen and a smaller package and the cost increases.

Likely Apple will just continue increasing the capacity of iPod Touches as the technology for flash memory improves, size decreases, and costs to make decrease. So the click wheel will eventually die out which is fine with me I suppose as long as there is always a high capacity iPod available.
