Very exciting. The question is, will this update also include the FaceTime and iMessage cert update? It would be insane if it doesn’t.

My iPhone and Watch have not recovered from iOS 26 update yet, now have to charge my Apple Watch two times a day and deal with stuttering animations along with my iPhone 14 Pro with new Apple batter running into the ditch and always running hot with a dim screen. Regretting updating to 26.😡
Someday in the future we may find out that Apple was behind all the security vulnerabilities, paying someone to scare people into a new version of iOS. 😵

Damned if they do, damned if they don’t.
If they back port security updates [...]
But if they don’t, [...]
There is literally no winning.
You misunderstand my anger.

They did not backport the security fixes just now.
The update was already there. For all devices not able to run iOS 26, it was ALREADY THERE.
They will just now "flip the switch" to graciously allow the SAME update to all other devices as well.

They are now officially admitting that they could have provided updates for previous OSes all along. But deliberately CHOSE not to.

The fact that this is happening to me at the worst possible time is beside the point. (But at least I’m giving some commenters - not you - the chance to express their schadenfreude. So it's not a total waste.)

For those of us who use emojis, it’s all messed up in iOS 26 in the favorite section, showing double emojis or pressing on it and nothing happens and the emoji history is only about 20 characters deep, I can’t even type the same emojis every day I have to keep searching for them, very annoying.
iPadOS is even worse, used to be able to have two windows side-by-side with one of the windows narrow 1/3 and slim and the other one taking 2/3 but now there’s a huge black bezel using up the space and if you shrink it anymore it goes away wasting tons of space, tried all three settings but the double dot at the top is gone. 😡

Are you f***ing kidding me?!
Not 6 hours ago, I updated to f***ing Liquid Ass, because of these exploits.

I HATE Apple so much right now.
I'm on 18.7.1 and it's not showing for me. If your device is capable of iOS 26, that's the only way forward for security.

Edit: Sorry, bad on me for not reading the new. I guess is not available still. (not also for my XR)

My brother is running iOS 18 still, I’ll check with him but it looks like this is an April fools joke. 😛📱

Update: just checked with my brother, it does not show for his iPhone 13 mini, it only shows iOS 26.4 update.

It would be humorous to see a large percentage downgrade 🙂 .
If users indeed downgrade from iOS 26.x to iOS 18.x on the condition that Apple releases a full iOS 18.x iPSW, they should make sure they have a backup whether through iCloud or Mac, otherwise, they will have to re-download everything and re-sign in to every app.

So, is Apple going to flip the switch to allow updating to iOS 18.7.7 for those running older iOS 18.x releases?

Oh, a user respecting move from Apple. Great.

Next steps: fire Cook, fire whoever was responsible for the emoji keyboard, fire whoever was responsible for the iOS 26 UI. Then have everyone who's in a position to approve features take a test where they demonstrate they understand what usability is, and fire those who fail.

WHEW!
I too have thought about upgrading from iOS 18 but was keeping my powder dry and my fingers crossed.

Every time I use the latest operating system on any Apple device, I just want to facepalm for the rest of the day because of how pathetic liquid glass is.

I doubt it will be something you can disable an iOS 27, but how I hope they give us that option!

They accidentally proved this in Dec when whey released 18.7.3 for those who were on the iOS 18 beta channels.

They needed to do this outright if the issue was so severe. While I will wait for that and upgrade when it’s available, I am disappointed that it took them so long to decide to do the right thing. Regardless, glad it’s about to be an option!

Has anyone seen the update yet? I have a feeling this might be the first April Fool's joke I've ever believed.

Absolutely. And they do it every year to force updates. They will say it is because they want developers to adopt their new APIs and have a cohesive look and all that, but it also benefits them by slowing down older devices and encourages upgrades. They are not unaware of this, but they probably coach their team on how to speak to this in email and interviews very carefully to avoid anything coming up in antitrust discovery. The only thing different this year is a security hole the size of Texas in Webkit created too much bad press, and Apple will always react to bad press over anything else.

Has there been any word on updates to iPadOS 17 for devices that didn't get iPadOS 18? My iPad Pro 10.5 is stuck on 17, but haven't had an update in a while, I assume it's vulnerable to DarkSword.
