As already said, the cost difference between the 64 and 128GB versions is $100. As it is, I can go to Amazon, and purchase a 64GB micro SD for $60. If Apple was to purchase a million of those cards, they could easily get the price down, so why are we paying so much? On the lower end, a boost of 16GB from 16GB to 32GB is also $100, despite the fact that a 16GB micro sd card is going for less than $9 new... Apple is so full of °°°°, it isn't even funny...

How much does the 128gb card cost? I see some for $85. Apple certainly is making a profit on these upgrades but they actually make less of an increased profit with each step up. In some ways the 128gb iPad seems like a better buy than the 64gb. I've got the 32 and I'm fine with dropping apps and data to fit stuff in.

Why? Lacking a reason, I assume the reason is "because I got my iPad 3 and now I'm pissed that :apple: doubled the storage & processor speed and now I don't have the latest greatest and don't have the money to go get an iPad 4 Mk II before one year has passed."

Never owned an ipad 3 so no im not pissed. I was ipad 2 owner.

And we bought a 64 GB iPad Wifi + Cellular literally 3 days ago for a relative because there was no 128 GB model. And I was disappointed when less than a year ago I bought my own 64 GB Wifi + Cellular 3rd Gen that I couldn't have chosen a 128 GB model.

Anyhow, better late then never I guess, right?

Still, for that price I'd rather spend a bit more and get the much more capable Surface Pro. If it's anything like the RT, then it would be awesome.

----------

People who still don't have enough room on their 64gb version, just have too much junk on there, or should just use a laptop.

Not necessarily. I have a relatively tiny portion of my music on my iPad, no videos, less than 1 GB of pictures, and the rest apps I use a lot. I have less than 4 GB left.

And I have several laptops and desktops. Everyone uses their space differently.

...So hope is: no physical change which would allow 128GB also in a space-limited iPhone keeping the same battery.

A safe bet, bearing in mind that 64 gb of class 10 fits on a thumbnail these days:

I believe it's against forum rules. And I'm not going to single anyone one person or multiple people out. Sorry to disappoint. But I've seen it first hand.

Then you should be able to provide names of specific posters who flip-flopped, or quote their actual posts.

But of course, anybody who trots out the argument 'Some Apple fans hate it until Apple makes it and then they say it's the best thing ever' will never actually back it up.

If it was so prevalent they could find dozens of such posts. I've never seen even one example from the people who shovel this argument day in and day out.

EDIT: I expect the people who do this for a living will soon get some sockpuppets to start some blatant flip-flopping, since nobody else on the forum is actually doing it.

That's the typical Apple fanboy response, isn't it? Either that, or a troll response.

As have I over and over again. Pretending that it doesn't happen is stunning if someone has been around here for a while. I can't believe someone is actually asking for proof of this. Must be new.

Incorrect, it's not against the forum rules. You are in fact expected to back up your claims with evidence. There's nothing wrong with showing how some posters have changed their minds.

If you were interested in the actual discussion you'd keep it to what's in the thread or show how your just-so story is true and relevant. Your stories about what happened somewhere else (without any proof), instead of making substantive responses to the current conversation, are just a smear job which derails the thread.

We both know why you make this argument and never back it up.

EDIT: lol someone else making the same argument (there's a few posters here playing from the same book) but absolutely none of them can even PM me with one instance of it. shameful (and a little too obvious). I've read the threads on iPad cameras, copy-paste, Flash, a mini iPad, an Apple tablet, and more, and have yet to see a specific poster go from "Apple will rightfully never do this" to "This is the best thing ever". If it was so obvious I'd have countless examples myself already. I haven't even seen one poster make any kind of this manoeuvre which is apparently endemic here. What a joke. Come on, just cite an example, I'm begging you guys. Maybe you could get some FUDster to make some of these flip-flop posts (they'd have to talk about how great Apple is, but they could take a dive for the team on this one).

I love how everyone begs for ANYTHING 126GB and then when it is released, there is nothing but complaining :eek:

I dont know. Maybe because this is 2013 and NAND cost/GB should be dirt cheap??

Yet 128GB iPad is nothing more but another extra $100 on top of already choking 64GB? Really? How about disband 16Gb and bump up the whole line? Oh must've not thought about that

Like I said, do the math. And you'll realize how deep you suck on Apple's balls for buying it.

Just how much do you think Apple would charge for your fantasy product? You might as well say "I'd rather have an aircraft carrier" if you're going to ignore what these things cost.

Uh dude. Like it's already been done before like ten years ago and Microsoft just released the same thing with their new Surface Pro and it costs under $1000.

You do realize you can coat any glass screen with a touch-screen coating, right? A flip lid isn't' hard to realize. It shouldn't cost more than $100 to add it to a Macbook in large quantities, especially when made in a Chinese sweat factory. In fact, I'd wager you'll see exactly this within three years from Apple. They've already been heading towards merging OSX and iOS. This is the natural conclusion to the matter.

If you think the Surface Pro is comparable to a MacBook Pro with a 'flip around keyboard' I have a bridge to sell you. But sure, if you want to hedge your bets and talk about the price of technology three years from now, in comparison to something Apple announced today, knock yourself out.

Nice that there's an extra available option for consumers, but I definitely will not consider one at the proposed price point. I might not be getting the best value purchasing the base model, but at the same time I manage my data in a way that storage size is not of great importance to me. Size and quality of display is a priority for me, for I mainly use it to browse the internet.

Different strokes for different folks, and I can definitely understand those who want and can afford the upscale model. Value is in the eye of the beholder. Personally, I'd spend my money on a base iPad and put the rest of the money towards a Mac Air, because for me an iPad is no laptop replacement.

Apple is slowly pricing themselves out of the market. Sure it will sell but people are starting to warm up to other devices. Android is gaining market share and Apple is looking to up the ante on their devices to replace laptop sales but this is going to come to bite them in the ass. $800+ now for an iPAD is plain ridiculous.

What really worries me is the quote from Schiller, which means they believe the Mac is a dead end. Too sad the best personal computer ever made is in the worst hands possible. The quote I mean: "it’s clear that customers around the world love their iPads, and everyday they are finding more great reasons to work, learn and play on their iPads rather than their old PCs,” said Philip Schiller

This is embarrassing for PCs.

128GB seems to be the most you can get as an SSD in a PC laptop. That's quite bad when a tablet (essentially an expensive toy in comparison) has equal capacity.

I guarantee you lots and lots of people will. Whenever you say "who on Earth would buy this?", people do. I finally accepted this after the iPhone 4S. Better to realize that people will buy something that has the Apple symbol on it for a hefty hefty premium so they can be apart of the club. This will also be the first real upgrade in anything iPad related since those that have maxed out their 64 will be hunting.

In short: lots of people will buy this.

I've yet to meet someone who purchases am apple product to be "in the club". If anything people just enjoy the simplicity. Then again, perhaps we just surround ourselves with different types of people

Personally, being a part of the Apple club is the last thing on my mind. They're just the only company being held to a high standard right now. Everyone other company gets a pat on the back for trying. "Aw, well who cares if the UI lags, at the least they were close to making something that can compete with apple"

I would love to see these price points for the iPad 5 and iPad mini 2:

iPad 5
32GB - $399
64GB - $499
128GB - $599

iPad mini 2 retina
32GB - $329
64GB - $429
128GB - $529

(16GB iPad mini non-retina @ $229)

Maybe I'm dreaming for 2013, but eventually...

With the iPad 5 on the horizon, it is crazy to shell out for the 128gb.

I'd expect this is setting up a new base level of storage for the iPad 5 (32GB) at same price level of 16GB (so it retains some aspect of "premium" over the mini) but creating a "deal" in the minds of consumers if they can buy the iPad 5 with more memory than the same model iPad 4 (plus all the other wonderful the 5 will have over the 4).

The horizon of which you speak, however, is quite a few months away (today's announcement provides more information supporting the notion that the 5 isn't a Spring release), so it makes perfect sense for those whose needs are fulfilled by the (wonderful) iPad 4 today, but want maximum storage in their new device. If I were buying an iPad 4 today and money weren't an issue, it's a no-brainer this is the model to buy.

I have no idea what you're talking about. I have 512GB in my notebook SSD, as do many people.

I hope so... Dropping 16GB from the iPad 5 seems about right now since apps are so much bigger because of the retina display.

It makes no sense from Apple's point of view to drop the 16GB

The only way I see this happening is if the 128GB iPad completely bombs to the point where they have trouble giving them away.

This is a move to get prices up and increase margins. Selling a 32GB for the same price as a 16GB decreases margins and also forces people to spend less.

16GB is plenty if all you do is internet and email and maybe Facebook and twitter.
