This is embarrassing for PCs.

128GB seems to be the most you can get as an SSD in a PC laptop. That's quite bad when a tablet (essentially an expensive toy in comparison) has equal capacity.

That's not true in the least. Apple's base models all have 128 GB SSDs as do many PCs. I don't think PC manufacturers advertise the higher capacity models often, because it significantly increases the price, but they are certainly readily available. Dell.com has plenty of PC notebooks with 256 GB and 512 GB SSDs.

Yeah - and a device that can run real software and has a keyboard and other ports.

If your point was that a MBA would only be 1/2 the capacity as an argument why it makes more sense to get an iPad - I think you failed.

Hey, it's the consumer's choice. :apple:

So Tim, when will be seeing this >100GB move on the rest of the iOS product line?

----------

I hate it when im slow to comment on big news, my input just isn't appreciated :(

I have no idea what you're talking about. I have 512GB in my notebook SSD, as do many people.

Ah ok. For the last couple of weeks I've been looking for a PC to replace my MacBook air. So far any equivalent I've found has only had 128GB. The Samsung 7/9 series comes immediately to mind

Yeah...took them long enough....but at the end of the day it's still a tablet with just a bump in memory. Where is Apple's innovation? Seems like they are just following the market now and not leading. Other tablets makers have plans to make 128gb machines. Where has Apple's innovation gone?

how dare you! 128gb is PURE MAGIC! it's AMAZING innovation!

If you're attempting to bait me it won't work. "Smear" job? Against who? Posters I'm not naming? I'm sure you think you know why I bring the issue up/agree with the person who stated it. I'm also sure you're wrong. But don't let that stop you. I do love your conspiracy theories though. Especially the fact you think I actually have time to start creating extra accounts or orchestrating something just to prove a point. To you. Think about that one for a second....

Incorrect, it's not against the forum rules. You are in fact expected to back up your claims with evidence. There's nothing wrong with showing how some posters have changed their minds.

If you were interested in the actual discussion you'd keep it to what's in the thread or show how your just-so story is true and relevant. Your stories about what happened somewhere else (without any proof), instead of making substantive responses to the current conversation, are just a smear job which derails the thread.

We both know why you make this argument and never back it up.

EDIT: lol someone else making the same argument (there's a few posters here playing from the same book) but absolutely none of them can even PM me with one instance of it. shameful (and a little too obvious). I've read the threads on iPad cameras, copy-paste, Flash, a mini iPad, an Apple tablet, and more, and have yet to see a specific poster go from "Apple will rightfully never do this" to "This is the best thing ever". If it was so obvious I'd have countless examples myself already. I haven't even seen one poster make any kind of this manoeuvre which is apparently endemic here. What a joke. Come on, just cite an example, I'm begging you guys. Maybe you could get some FUDster to make some of these flip-flop posts (they'd have to talk about how great Apple is, but they could take a dive for the team on this one).

I'll bite. Here's one poster who did something along those lines. Me. I said at some point or another I didn't think Apple would release an iPad Mini and that it likely wouldn't be as good as a full fledged iPad if such a devise was ever released (based on my understanding at the time). Now that I've seen an iPad Mini in person, I'm actually impressed and surprised at it. If it had a Retina screen, I'd likely sell my iPad 3 and swap out to the iPad Mini. I'm not now saying it's the best thing ever, but I am saying I was completely wrong on this point and have flipped my position.

Similarly, I didn't think Apple would mess with the screen size of the iPhone, and though I'm not impressed with the larger screen, the weight, look and thinness of the iPhone 5 does impress me. If I could afford it, I'd upgrade to it. I'm not saying it's the best thing ever, but I am saying I was wrong there too, and changed my position.

Samcraig might have called me out to gratify your petty desires, but that wasn't done because there's no need to point fingers at individuals like me. Samcraig showed proper decorum here. I'd wager I'm not the only individual on this forum to have flip-flopped or changed his position/mind. If anything, it seems like you are the one derailing the thread by asking for evidence for something that ought to be blatantly obvious.

I bet he now thinks I'm you, given my admission of flipping and flopping in a few cases. But perhaps I'm just you. Though we've argued and disagreed in the past, that's just because you've been orchestrating an elaborate scheme for a very long time now, all to be able to claim what you did in this thread. Was it worth the effort?

I guess some people don't stop to think before posting...

Thanks John. We have, in fact, disagreed on occasion. But I think we both, at the very least, respect each other enough to look past disagreements from time to time and know that we have conviction in our thoughts.

As for outing people - this isn't a witch hunt and I won't let it be. I myself have flip-flopped. Go look at my posting history around the announcement of the iPad. While I never thought it would bomb - I saw no value in it for me. But I got one on launch day. Why? Because I looked beyond what I thought the device should be and instead how I might be able to use it/benefit from it. It also happened to be released shortly before I got married/went on a honeymoon and it wound up being the perfect travel device. Further - at the best buy near me - there was no line for it. So I jumped in. And I even posted a thread mentioning that it was OK to call me a hypocrite. (https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/888476/)

There are thousands of similar stories. To imply it never/rarely happens is turning a HUGE blind eye. Or being obtuse. Whatever you want to call it...

No I don't. But 16GB is fine for my needs.
I would say it like this: 16GB is fine for tasks which don't include midsized audio collections or any videos. But media consumption is one of the major purposes on the iPad. That's why it is a flaw.

Media doesn't always have to include audio and/or video. 16GB being a flaw is a matter of personal opinion and need.

I think you hit the nail on the head when you said it was asking for a witch hunt, and I applaud you for not getting involved in one. Sure, in some cases flip-flopping is deplorable, but for the kinds of issues we are discussing, often times it just shows having an open-mind and being willing to reconsider one's position. As if anyone needed to be vilified for that, or for making petty mistakes. I suppose the topic of the threads aren't interesting enough for some people, they feel the need to add a little more drama to the conversations.

PS: This likely need not be said, but indeed I do think highly of your input to these forums, I just wish more people engaged in as thoughtful and civil a discourse as you do.

Hopefully we can all return to the topic at hand now :)

Someone tweet me when they have holographic tactile interfaces... ;-)

I am happy to see the128gb become a available. I'm only disappointed that it was announced so soon after the iPad 4. I got a 64gb AT&T two months ago. I know it's buyer beware especially with apple but I would have gladly spent the extra hundred bucks for double the storage. I used to pull the trigger with every announcement knowing the schedule for new product refreshes but now I will be more hesitant to jump on any new devices as the refresh schedule seems like it is going to be all over the place.

They should have dropped the 16GB model and the prices by $100 each. 16GB is useless with the size of the retina apps

As it stands now, it's way too expensive for the 128. Too close to the price of a proper laptop

What a joke! So much for innovation.

So now they are never allowed to increase the specs on any of the iPads, iPhones. Macbooks, iMacs, Mac Pros because it is not innovative enough..... do you know how stupid you sound?

Quite honestly John - I don't think me, Hobe (and you) even care about the flip-flopping/floppers. It's the ones that flip-flop and deny they ever thought differently that I find funny.

Like you did. Like I did. Own it. Nothing wrong with being wrong.

I wish Apple would come out with something completely new (not a tv...) and really amaze us. There hasn't been anything spectacular since the first iPad came out. The only thing they do is bump up specs (necessary) and redesign them, they haven't released anything 'wow' in a few years now.

Others "have plan"
Apple "announced" and will be available in a week.

Who is following who?

But phones with "just" larger screens are innovations! :p
