Apple games consist of either, running, jumping, popping or lining things up to remove them. That's about it. Cut and paste it over and over and over. Not to mention that every single game - has micro transactions to make you an ATM.

Apple should just stop trying to do anything with games. They will never be able to support REAL games. They only offer games that bleed you dry of money.

So instead of tapping the game app you want to play you will have to first go into Apples Gaming app, find the app in there and load it from there? Would this mean no games in the dock if you wanted to save them there? Not sure what is to be gained by a stand along gaming app.

It's a small step but I like it. Games I install from the App Store get buried in the applications folder on my Mac. Games that aren't installed are likewise buried in a list of everything I have ever bought from the App Store. A games portal would be a big improvement, even if I don't use any of the other features.

I suspect Cyberpunk will be front and center when they unveil this at WWDC.

Hey Apple instead of launching Game Center 2.0, how about using your cash pile to bribe a AAA developer to port their FPS (Battlefield, Call of Duty) to Mac or I don’t know, maybe innovate (gasp!) and create your own AAA FPS for Mac, iOS, and Apple TV?

I played over 200 Apple Arcade games maybe 18 months ago. I gave each game a chance and it had to be something I liked after playing it for at least 5 minutes. I put all the games I hated in a folder and all the games I liked in separate folder. It turned out there was 110 games that I liked. I have not had time to play all the games I liked from that list but I do play at least one Apple Arcade game daily for at least 30 minutes.

The worst thing about Apple Arcade is when a game that I like to play is removed and not available as a paid or free game in the App Store and also not available for Android. I have lost at least a dozen games that were removed from the Arcade choices.
Seems strange to make a games app now when Apple Arcade is no longer getting high quality games like Fantasian and instead are focused on porting games that have been on the App Store for years and are no longer popular. Most of the ports are no longer part of the top 100 free games list. They’re ancient games like Doodle Jump. And I don’t know who in their right mind would buy Apple Arcade just to play games like Doodle Jump.

Apple is working on a standalone multi-platform app for games, reports Bloomberg. The app will let Apple users launch games, plus it will have sections for in-game achievements, leaderboards, editorial content, and communication.

Apple plans to preinstall the app on the iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple TV later this year, which corresponds with the launch timing of iOS 19, macOS 16, and tvOS 19. The gaming app will debut at the Worldwide Developers Conference that's set to take place on June 9.

The upcoming app is set to replace Game Center, which Apple has long used for inviting friends to play mobile games and tracking achievements. While Apple plans to use the new gaming app to promote Apple Arcade, it will include all of the third-party games that are currently located in the Games section of the App Store.

It sounds like Apple is aiming to split out the App Store's gaming, making it easier for customers to find and download games on their devices. On the Mac, the app will also "tap into" games that are downloaded outside of the Mac App Store.

While the gaming app will be previewed at WWDC, it will roll out to iPhones, iPads, Macs, and Apple TVs in September when the operating systems launch to the public.

Gaming has remained a hobby for Apple under Tim Cook.

They could have easily turned the AppleTV into a gaming device to compete with PlayStation and XBox and could have easily turned a version of the iPod into a dedicated handheld portable gaming device to compete with Nintendo.

Google:
We've just upgraded our genAI video generator, where entire videos can be generated from a prompt.

Apple:
We've reskinned and renamed Game Center.
Google: we’ve created a monster that will eventually undermine the whole government structure with fake videos of anyone doing anything.

Apple: we’ve not ended society as we know it.

Ok but they will throw all the garbage games with ads that populated the appstore?
One man’s trash is another man’s treasure. There are plenty of innocent people that enjoy those games. Ads enable hobbyist developers to overcome price barriers that might otherwise put people off and make some money back.

Microsoft have had adverts on the Xbox dashboard since the 360. Kool-Aid Man was around in 1983. Obama paid for in-game billboards in Burnout Paradise!

Ads in games aren’t anything new nor exclusive to ‘trash’.
